Last year, I was putzing about on Craigslist here in Vancouver and came across a Piano 4. My wife is a pianist but her old upright resides at her parents place on Vancouver Island. And we live in a small apartment. Needless to say, we contacted the seller and were at his house inside of 2 hours. She tried out the piano (never thought that a digital piano would be anything like her real one), and straight up gave the man his price. He gave us the stand, and the pedals and a gig bag, too. She's never looked back, and I enjoy plinking around on it too. Absolutely brilliant instrument, and we'll be keeping ours for forever.
And Jack? You are a stellar human being!

So I recently bought a Yamaha CP-88 as a dedicated stage instrument for solo piano gigs and live streams. The keybed felt amazing, but I found myself using only two pianos consistently. The rest of the sounds remained forever unused. The effects also seemed limited at that price point.
So I was looking at Piano 4 for the interchangeable sounds, but didn't see enough there to justify the price difference. Especially since the Yamaha had dual, even triple layers.
Welp... Piano 5 gets announced with independent dual layers and even more effects.
    Sold.
Can't wait to get my hands on one, but they're all on pre-order. :)

I just don't understand why Nord would put s much effort into making flutes, guitars and vintage synth samples sound more realistic--and then not bother putting on a pitch bend or mod wheel. It(s not like they can't charge for it. But they'd rather force people to shell out for the Stage to get simple functionality. This is one reason why people hate Nords.

Given that it gives us the option of layering 2 pianos that is a huge plus in order to obtain special characteristics of the sound.Weigt also, just 15 kiosl ,for the 73 keys version.Which will cover most of the music , even from classic repertoire.Beethoven had even less.As about mechanics.....when I hear all the ''golden fingers'' comments that's laughable.Just play. The cheapest digital has a better mechanic and even sound than an 18 th century piano.Etc.People should just practice and play on what they can afford. It's not a drama if you can't buy the Nord Grand.Absolutely.Or the Nord 5 .

    • @outerrim
      @outerrim 3 роки тому +5

@@mlgl9728 To me they don't feel horrible. The Nord Grand Action is quite good and if pianist have to choose a digital piano, they very often will choose the Grand. If you play a Bösendorfer or Steinway (Renner) action taken out of the piano, they also do not really feel great. My experience is, that you need the sound along with the action for it to feel good. So ... trying a Nord Grand or Nord 5 without sound will give you a funny impression - and you probably won't like any action. Try it with a good PA system or headphones and the feel will be very different ...

    • @geoffk777

@@outerrim That's just nonsense. Play a Kawai MP11SE (which has Kawai's best full-length wooden action) and then play any kind of Nord. It's just no comparison. Only the Nord has the full resonance that makes the pianos sound alive like a real piano. The Roland SN sounds are super artificial sounding. Yamaha still sounds like a boxed in short decay, no resonance sample. Only Kawai’s latest samples are really top notch. Nord has the details and the variety nobody else can touch.

Man!....your improvisations are ...dream living 👍🏻🙂
For me best action is the one of the Kawai CA49/59 so the Grand Feel Compact.
Anyway I am considering Nord Grand or NumaXPiano GT and I really prefer the Nord Grand action key bed even I never tried yet the one of Numa GT.
Considering above, what do you suggest to me that should be the nearest action to the Grand Feel Compact feeling?

I feel 2021 is the year where most digital pianos have reached maturity. I'm just playing a Yamaha DGX-670 which I'm not totally fond of, but when its voice is combined with a Pianoteq Pro voice it is extremely nice.

What speakers are you us8ng? Also, I'd love to see the piano selections in addition to any effec5s you're using. Otherwise this is not helpful. I want to mimic what you're doing bcs it's beautiful.

There are a bunch of versions of sheet music for this, but I think this one is pretty close to what he played. Maybe what he started with before adding his own flavor to it! www.sheetmusicplus.com/title/hercules-go-the-distance-piano-arrangement-digital-sheet-music/22165552

Great review, beautiful playing, and so funny. I have a question, is it possible to upload organs and E-Pianos patches to this Nord Piano 5? This could be for me a big thing

Several classic electric pianos are already installed when buying the instrument, more are available at Nord‘s Piano library. Pipe organs are part of the sample player section. There are Hammond organ samples in the Nord user forum, although you can’t really play Hammond/Jazz organ on this piano keybed.

I don’t think the Clavia Nord instruments look more than the cockpit in a plane more than other keyboards and synthesizers on the marked. Just check what I mean. For example by searcing for Yamaha Montage and Yamaha Genos or the newest Roland Fantom model or Korg Kronos (all Kronos models). Check them out for yourself and see if you wouldn’t agree that they to look like the cockpit on a plane. And you can go on with other synths and keyboards and see if it isn’t the same. I think you might agree with me. But go check it out.

Nice demo as always Jack! Although the NP5 is not much of an upgrade since all the sounds are the exact same from the library... The price is increase is also a concern because the NS3 costs nearly the same...

No need to lust after this man if you already have the 4 I reckon. There’s something pure about the 4 - pair it with a Stage 3 that you’ll get a good used deal on when the Stage 4 comes out and you can take over the World!!! Thanks for watching mate ✊

Can you make a video demonstrating midi 3.0 keyboards and what they can do that midi 2.0 can’t do? I can’t make sense of the jargon on the midi website

I’m with you Noreaction!! Nothing has come out recently at Andertons that really makes me get the advantage of “3.0”. The higher resolution makes me think that Virtual Instrument companies like Spitfire and Spectrasonics might be the first guys to show off it’s capabilities before hardware companies catch up. Thanks for watching ✊
