Jealousy and betrayal I have experienced from 2 long time friendships! They decided I had it better than them because I was with a man that was helping me and cared about me and they didn’t have anyone and these 2 friends got together and called mt male friend and told him lies about me to try to break us up! I never had anything to do with them again! Their loss! Yes, some women can be back stabbing wenches when they think you have something they don’t! Lesson learned!
Hi Cathy, thank you so much for sharing and for your comment. I am so sorry that too long time friends stabbed you in the back. They should have been happy for you, but they chose to be jealous of you. That goes to show you that they were never really true friends, that they did not want the best for you. Great video. Big life changes have a significant effect on friendships. My late husband and I lost friendships because people in our group got divorced. We were placed in a "past life" category as they transitioned into the single life and developed new friendships and searched for new relationships.
You covered so much today. We have a big family and with young children years ago there was no time for friends. Our family are also our best friends. School friends had such different lives from mine that there is no common interests anymore. My mother had a friend that unburdened all her problems on my mother, and my mom was always so exhausted and mad that she had to listen to her and all the time it wasted. Not an easy friendship to pull away from so mom just put up with it. Mom would always tell me about her friends ranting and she and I would have a good laugh!!!
Hi Liz, thank you so much for your comment and all that you shared. Your mother sounds like a saint, she had great patience. There are those kind of friends that can drain the life out of you. I what you have told me, your mother was a great friend, and that friend really took advantage of her. I commend your mom for being able to laugh about it. I have had a few friends that were always dumping on me and I consider them to be toxic. I will be doing a video on toxic friendships, they are the ones you dread when they show up at your door. You pretty much nailed the pros and cons. The cons have outweighed the benefits for me. At this point in my life I really appreciate peace and quiet. My family is more than enough for me right now.

Hi Janet, thank you so much for your comment. I am right there with you as far as the cons outweighing the benefits. My door is not open to any drama or unrest. Having friends now at my age would probably look differently than it did when I was younger . When I was young it seemed like there was sometimes a problem if one of us started dating someone new . Jealously, or the guy was a bad guy and you tried to tell them , or the guy would flirt with his girlfriend’s friend . Or she shared my secrets with him , or the one with the new guy didn’t have time for friends any longer. A host of things could go wrong . But now at my age I think having a friend might look different and you covered most of the problems that could arise. Great topic !! Thanks ! 🌸🌸🌸

Your video hit all the bases regarding the pros and cons of friendships. Throughout my lifetime I've experienced mostly the pros of friendships. Traveling through the chapters of my life, I've had friends for different reasons and as I've grown older, I find that I don't rely on friendships as much. Family takes up most of my socializing and the true friends I have, I can count on one hand.
Oh boy, this conversation opened so many memories. At my age I have had several good friends for seasons in my life and some not so good "friends" through out my life. Betrayal, yes but fortunately she was not a very close friend but did become one later in life. I've had 2 roommates that turned out to be very good friends. Like you said seasons of life bring seasons of friends. Thank you Sheila for this series, it does brings back some good memories.
I've had good experiences with my friends, thank God I've been lucky. With the exception of my guy friend when I was 20 - 21 years old. He & I had a falling out and it hurt & left an empty spot.
Your sister Kathie was my very best friend. We shared so much in our life and secrets thoughts,dreams,family madders. I miss her so much,I go to reach out to her so many days.
Kathie took so many of her life and mine to heaven with her.
I never had or will have a friend like her again.
We told each other the truth good or bad.
The best friendship ever for years.
Hi Dianna, thank you so much for your comment and all that you shared about my sister. Kathie spoke of you often throughout the years and I know how close the two of you were. We were never close growing up or into our adult years, but about 10 years ago, we became each other‘s friend. When she moved down here, we got very close and I was so honored when she asked me to take care of her and see her through her terrible illness until the very end. Through the whole thing, she was still the boss, ha ha. When she moved down here, I was looking so forward to finally being sisters and friends and doing lots of things together. It broke my heart when our time was cut short and we never got to do all the things we had planned. I miss her every day, if I wasn’t at her house, we were on the phone talking to each other several times a day. Her passing has left a big deep hole in my heart. Love, Sheila.

Sometimes people are put in our lives at certain times for a reason. It always made me feel good that you two became close.

Hi Jean, we are so alike, betrayal, always surprised me too. Maybe I am just too naïve, and I want to believe that everybody has good intentions, but the truth is, not everybody does. I was brought up to believe there were just good people in the world, and maybe there there were back in that day, but you certainly can’t think that way in today’s crazy world. Well I’ve experienced lots of those pros and cons! The older I get, the harder it is and really hard since moving cross country.
Hi Joy, thank you so much for your comment. Yes, we all experienced most of the pros and cons, but we went on to make more friends throughout our lives. It is much harder when we are older and I think we are much more cautious. Are there any senior centers in your area? I know a lot of people meet new friends when they go to those places, but I am more introverted when it comes to that. Don’t give up, someone will cross your path and before you know it you will have a friend. Do you have any neighbors that you are close to? many times like-minded people just end up connecting. true, true, true. My mom always had lots of friends and so did my sister, I was the loner, wall flower child. Even as a child I never was able to make many friends, when my dad left us when I was 8 years old, I think that had a lot to do with it. Love this series Sheila.❤
