This is one of the best eight minutes of live rock n' roll ever captured on camera. Dirty, sleazy and magnificent. It can't be faked - and this is as 'for real' as you'll get.
FACTS!
Can't argue with that!
No Shit!
Great footage of a fantastic band
The best Stones performance by non-Stones. Outstanding!
you understood everything!!!!!!
Yes!
Phenomenal performance by the legendary Groovies... one of the greatest R&R bands ever!
The “Shake Some Action” line-up:
Chris Wilson- Vocals
Cyril Jordan- Lead Guitar
George Alexander- Bass
James Ferrell- Guitar
Danny Minh- Drums
George Alexander on Base Guitar Never gets too much credit He's got an incredible voice and talent!!!!!! without him you got no Flaming Groovies is just NOT!!!!!!!!
All of 'em, you can't forget Danny Mihm, R.I.P., on drums, this was pretty much the end of his time with them but he was the best drummer they ever had, one of the best in Rock and Roll.
Totally agree! He was such a kick ass bass player!
@@seancurran6727 Yes! This is my favorite line up of the Groovies. Better than the Stones if you ask me.
This is cool, makes me wanna dance
This is rock'n'roll how it always should be.....magic!!!
I want to play like that with my band too. Proper Rock N Roll
Love that drummer go danny
Chris was in his element on Slow Death. He was...is a great mimic; he could be anyone. Slow Death should have charted and been in the top 20 in the states.
These guys are True Rockers
"Rock and roll is still a living tradition for many US bands, who love rock for itself, like we love truffles in the Périgord (nb. region of France). Here's one of the best of these groups, Flaming Groovies, coming from SF in a hit of Chuck Berry, Little Queenie, and their own composition, purely in the great tradition, a piece called Slow Death"
Actually it's Flamin' Groovies which I'm pretty sure is what Cyril called those little mouse characters he drew. Probably wrong but I'd been to his home in the late 60s and saw his vast collection of memorabilia. He was the only person I knew, at the time, that had an EC comic collection. His artwork was commercial grade. Reminded me of the 1940s, very old Disneyesque stuff. He wrote some great songs and did NOT get the fame he deserved. :)
My god, '72 was a fun year in music
70s rock n roll, we lived it, it was awesome...!
I have been a fan for a long long time!
On the very edge of art and death. magnificent.
Such an astute comment. Kudos.
RIP Danny Mihm drummer
We are so lucky to have this!
Fabulous, Fantastic, Magical band. Thanks for posting them. Good time for you
Vraiment très bon. C'est un bon shoot d'énergie et de rock' n ' roll.
J'aime ça. I like it.
Thats the energy! On a par with the Pirates. Make the Dolls look a little tired out
all the best videos of rocking come from early videos of the 70's, late 60's, this is a good one, good audio.
Best song the Rolling Stones never made
And they sound more Mississippi than the Stones could ever, however being California boys. But heck, so were the CCWR and they absolutely LOVE them down in the bayous
Stones =some British kids playing to be Americans with a front singer thinking he's a Black mamma. Not even Aretha would have such pretensions like those Blues lovers Bros clowns, but they had the nerve and pulled it good. Like Clapton must have seem a God in UK until a real Black player from somewhere in USA arrived to show how it all came to be among the liberated colored, poor af playing for Life not money or fame (which they never got enough or as deserved, even on their own Music, White kids as Keith and Mick got more recognition and pennies)
Someone ought to tell the singer to explore the studio with those maracas. I got a fever, and more maracas is the cure!
RIP Roy!!
That's not Roy... It's the second incarnation of the Groovies with Chris Wilson singing.
Sad for Roy Loney but, the singer here is Chris Wilson, still with us!
Roy wasn't here, he had left the band a year earlier
Real rock and roll
Incredible song so beautifully performed ! Rock at its best!!
This is a great band!
very groovy indeed -- especially from about 5 min until about 6 min in. utterly fab also.
As far as covers go., Groovie's Little Queenie blow's The Stones to the shizenhausen & Slow Death is one of the Greatest Songs Ever Recorded.
You're joking, right? These garage rockers can't hold a candle to the Stone. LOL!
@@DogTrekker Settle down Fanboy.
Chris is a genius !
Only 18 when he did this, amazing.
Chris Wilson replaced Roy Loney a year before this recording and to his credit, kept the band going with these great numbers.
Extraordinaire document, merci.
sineddezra ,,,bonjour ! Quel est le nom du chanteur svp merci. Très bon groupe, que je découvre.🙋💐💐💐💐💐💐💐💐🦉
Le chanteur, en cette époque c'est Chris Wilson - n'est-ce pas?
great rock and roll band
I think Chris Wilson & Keith Richards are the only people to have a missing front tooth and still look great haha.
I got a fever for some more maracas
Who's listening in 2020 with covid-19 lockdown December 28th
OG Roy just died! Just read it on the groovies facebook page!! How weird is that? RIP Roy
Good stuff, love both songs
Seen they guys at the eAsToWn theatre in beautiful~Detroit. The guitarist, Cyril Jordan had shaved the back of his head in the shape of a Triangle? Maybe for the strange effect of the triangle, or who know WhaT? Anyway, they rocked it up pretty good. I wanna' say this was probably somewhere around 1971~72. I usually tried to catch their Detroit & surrounding area shows after seeing them perform initially.
Good Golly, Lord Have Mercy!
The best white interpretation of Chuck Berry !
tHIS SONG SAVED MY LIFE AS AS FAR AS i CAM CONCERNED TOO MUCH BOOZE ON TOP OF COKE & H REALLY WAS IN THE HOLE
Super groupe,intemporel
Coolest fucking drummer around!
Why haven't i heard of this band sooner?
quelle tuerie ce "slow death" ...
'San Francisco sound' at its best.
AGREED!!!
FLAMIN’ GROOVIES !!
Along with CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL, SIR DOUGLAS QUINTET, THE CHOCOLATE WATCHBAND, THE OXFORD CIRCLE, & BLUE CHEER !!!!!!
Dany & Roy ( RIP) !!
FG's = OG's .... Great post baby!!!!!
Great channel. Thank you.
I wish I had that Mustang Bass.
Love it! Merci beaucoup
good stuff!
Wow! Sublime!
Ahhh ... the cigarette burning in the machine head guitar strings. Classic!
The band that the Stones coulda been.
Vws Vas after the trifecta of let it bleed, exile and sticky fingers they lost it totally. The Groovies in the early 70's really nailed that greasy r&b rock n roll. But you're dead right!
Yep, it's pretty much downhill after "Exile.."
NO - after Goats Head Soup NOT Exile ... a lot of those Soup songs were written in the classic Beggars Banquet - Let It Bleed - Sticky Fingers - Exile on Main Street period.
@@jarrettgardner0628 Well i meant pretty much...not completely. (ha ha). "Goat Head Soup" has some moments, but not nearly enough.
LOL! Even at their worst, the Stones are 100 times better than these wannabes.
6:05 onwards Yeah, yeah
oH dANNY CYRIL HAD ME PLAY DRUMS AT A COUPLE OF GIGS AT dv8 IN SAN FRANCISCO WHEN WE WENT OUT FOR A BEER OR 10 i REALLY COULDN;T DRUM BASS PLAYER BUT WE MANAGED A X ++
Fantastico ed epici anni ruggenti 💉🎸🎷💉💊🌿🚬 70 s yeah 💥
There a 60s band Flamin' Groovies formed in 1965
The whoops!
I think I spotted Joey Ramone in the audience.
Love love love 3:18 💕⚡️💕
oh yeah!
Does anyone know who to contact about purchasing a full length, color recording of this session?
putain rock en stock....j'avais 12 ans et mon père ce con hurlait quand avec ma soeur on mattait ça.....les flamin au Havre plus Cult.... tu meurs.....!!!!
ouais chéri c'est bon
Absolutely fantastic band. How people call doof doof, music,I don’t get it.
Buenísimo
Сильнейшие хипари и делают не слабо
Qui est le chanteur ?
Who is the singer ?
Swag
Is this the flamin groovies from san francisco? Yep sure is..Roy just died. I know. You just told me. Just after I listened to Barry Melton, "the fish" do a tribute to Mike
That is not Roy Loney? Chris Wilson? Singer?
This is Chris Wilson, just very young.
Last time they played Boston, Chris was a drunken shambles, some of his relatives from the South Shore were in attendance but he couln't perform much - even so, they pulled out a lot of their lesser known numbers such as "Married Woman" (by Frankie Lee Sims) and that made up for a ragged evening, and they proved they hadn't forgot how to be cool as a moose and twice as hairy.
Who is the lead singer?
The lead singer is Chris Wilson. At this time he'd been singing with them for a couple of years or so, I think. He took over from Roy Loney, who occasionally joined the most recent FG lineups for one-off gigs towards the end of his life. RIP Roy Loney
Aunque falta Roy 😜
WHERE'S HIS TOOTH?
Someone told him he needed to learn how to sing on pitch, and there was a fistfight. The singer got worse than he gave, and the tooth was never seen again.
That is what makes this + Rock a Roll
TOO MUCH!!!
Lack of energy but still OK.
I like the original singer better
The stones copy these guys
Slow Death is an excellent song and I'm really happy to see this, but. The drumming really sucks. Sorry, but it does.
He's laying it down, no frills. If you want drum solos in every song, listen to Rush.
@@BaalDavaR999 Even this, most likely rehearsed quickly during soundcheck, is way better - ua-cam.com/video/0O02-JTzq30/v-deo.html
Garage band Stones wannabes. Poor imitation.
Tell that to Mick & Keith, who said the Flamin’ Groovies did a better job with their album Teenage Head than what the Stones were trying to do with Sticky Fingers. Keith also said their version of Jumpin Jack Flash was better than the Stones ever did.
@@xdef1ne LOL.
Sorry pal,you just dont have a clue what your talking about.
