They"re all such beautiful women and very talented it's sad to say that neither of them are still with us. Thank God our young youth are still keeping this song alive with many covers of Mister Sandman right here on UA-cam
Greetings from Sheboygan Co. WI where these young ladies formed their group. In 2023 the last Chordette alive, Carol Buschmann passed away in the city of Sheboygan after retiring from singing and living a quiet life. Carol and other members did get to see their performances on video provided by their own collections and from archivists in the area.
@@shyman99 she did not; archivists here in Sheboygan had tons of film footage of the group, and they also had their own collections of film and photos. They also prob had family members who showed them footage here on UA-cam.
My dad's family lived in Sheboygan and surrounding areas. Sheboygan is a special place. I hate that Gibbsville Cheese no longer ships. Miesfeld's will though.
These ladies are not only talented but lovely to behold! They had beautiful smiles and personality. Love that little sleigh too! Why can’t things and people be like this now???? It would be so good.
This is one of those songs which epitomizes the 1950's but remains a timeless hit that every generation seems to know and love. One of the biggest records of the '50's, "Mr. Sandman"! Thank you so much for posting this! This was the very first chart record for the Chordettes and it went all the way to number one. Written by Pat Ballard. I had always thought their version was the first, but Vaughn Monroe recorded it earlier in the year, but his version was released as a B-side and didn't have the same unforgettable harmonies and arrangement. Of course, the Chordettes had impeccable barbershop harmonies and were perfectly suited for the song. Their record has been featured in many movies such as "Uncle Buck", but strangely enough, it was a competing version by the Four Aces which was featured in "Back to the Future" at the start of Marty's journey to the '50's. Their version was also a Top 10 hit even though it was competing with the Chordettes record, so that shows you how popular the song was. Emmylou Harris released a successful remake of the song in 1981. Thanks again for this fantastic video of a great song!
So here I was, two-and-a-half years old, getting my early introduction to whole-tone scales (although I didn't know it then), thanks to the Chordettes and "Mr. Sandman"...😮😂🎉❤👍
Here's 'the thing' with me. I listen to all these pre-pre-Beatles vocalists(men and women) to hear real, live, vocal performances. Them hitting all the notes to a perfectly tuned orchestra and the intervals of the melodies across wide octaves and very, very close harmonies that you can really tune your ears to. Fast forward: All you hear now is 'pitch corrected' performances after the fact by so-called 'producers'. The more you hear 'real' you can hear the 'fake'. In my opinion.
The closest I come to knowing a celebrity is I know a guy who was friends when he was a kid with a kid whose mother was one of the Chordettes. Which of the Chordettes, I don't know.
I've been waiting for this upload since it was announced but once again the upscaling makes this look like an AI nightmare. How do you not see the quality loss. You are just boosting the sharpness and making it look pixelated and weird. This channel went from uploading highquality copies of 2" masters to turning these kinescopes into computer nonsense.
What are you comparing this to? This upload is far superior to the only other upload I can find on UA-cam. I also don't see any pixelization. There is a momentary vertical compression around 0:28 which I am 100% is an analog problem on the original kinescope.
@@PaulRoehl-fi1iw Could be. When you see a film of the Boswell Sister (there aren't many, but a few) or still photos, there's always a set-up like this, where all three are seated, or Connie's sitting on a piano bench next to Martha (who's playing the piano) or two of the Boswells are standing and Connie's sitting down. But as far as I know the Chordettes were all ambulatory because you see it in other videos. Maybe the one sitting here slipped on the ice or something and twisted an ankle, since this appears to be a Christmastime broadcast. It's interesting to speculate.

Very sorry she just missed out on seeing herself on the program.

Toast of The Town Christmas episode Sunday December 19,1954 70 years ago😊👍🏿
My father and mother always played Mr.Sandman when I was a kid in the 1960s. I still have many of their records, including Mr. Sandman.
These ladies are not only talented but lovely to behold! They had beautiful smiles and personality. Love that little sleigh too! Why can’t things and people be like this now???? It would be so good.
Post WWII booming economy, the new superhighway, sky's the limit mentality, and nationwide optimism.
❤1954-2024....😴 One of my favourite songs. Listening in coastal Mississippi 🐻🧔
Such a grand classic that thankfully we can enjoy!
Delightful!
The best performance. The best harmonies. 👏
We love the Chordettes 😍😍

Also in the film Jeepers Creepers ✌🏼❤️
And before that Halloween 2 1981
Some classic songs that were perfection, such as this one, with these ladies should never be redone.
The Chordettes came on Dick Clark’s Saturday night Beechnut Show in 1958 singing “Mr. Sandman” and Dick Clark says “Yes” like Ed did😊👍🏿
That ' Yesss ' line reminds me of when Pat Sajak said it, while the winning contestant called out consonants
Love hearing great musicians on Ed S show
Thanks for this “Chordettes “ staple on the oldies station, and memories of “Back to the Future “ when Marty goes back to 1955.
Have a great day!
Love old songs❤
Awesome. Sullivan mentions "Ray Bloch" at the end. He was the orchestra conductor for the Ed Sullivan Show.
Beautiful!

“This is heavy.”
"Save the clock tower!"
Before Emmylou, Linda, and Dolly version in Top 10 in 1982.
FINALLLYYY THERES A FAMOUS COMPETITION

I am extremely jealous of you. :)
I wasn't expecting the YES to be delivered like he was loudly irritated with the ladies.

The fur coats!
Did anyone else think of Blanche, Dorothy and Rose singing this song to a baby trying to lull it to sleep?
Look at those coats! 😢
Talk about singing in unison, so perfect, unlike Ed!
CONNIE FRANCIS, THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM, WHEN???

But where's Dooneese?
I wonder if any rapper sampled this song.
Oh my gosh I pray not.

Could the one in the sleigh not walk?
That was the Boswell Sisters. Connie Boswell couldn't walk.
I was wondering if she were injured or perhaps pregnant.

Get over it.
