    I've always used the Revlon Colorsilk, the regular one. I've used it for YEARS now and it's amazing. It's only $3 at my Walmart. I do have to get 2 boxes tho cause my hair is so long, but still $6 for 2 boxes. Even the lady who always cuts my hair says it seems like it was made for my hair (texture, etc). lol I agree, getting your hair dyed at the salon is VERY expensive. Mine will be $65 just for all over dye plus more if I want highlights/etc. I don't have that much money to spend. :/ That color looks great on you! :) Love your videos!

    So you dye the darker color on the root of your hair and the lighter color on the end of your hair. I got a bit confused there. Im dyeing my hair soon and i did not that you can use many colors to give your hair more dimension!! Great video by the way!

    • @samanthann92
      @samanthann92  6 років тому +2

      oanh lai sort of but not quite. I use the colors back and forth through out so that there is dimension and just keep the dark shade through the roots so it looks more natural. The colors aren’t too drastically different. Just enough so it’s not all uniform.

    • @samanthann92
      @samanthann92  6 років тому +1

      Edie Dixon you just have to make sure there are no dry parts. If your natural roots are growing out you just apply the dye all over your roots and massage them in until your head is covered. You can hold a second mirror behind you to make sure you haven’t missed any bits or ask a friend or family member.

    Hi Samantha, Thanks for your fantastic hair dye videos they are so detailed and very informative. With not washing your hair for a few days before applying the box dye, would it matter if there is some product in there? I usually put anti frizz product after I wash my hair- but I wonder if this would affect the dying process a few days later. Or is it better to just wash hair (without applying any antifrizz product after) ..wait a few days and then apply dye? Thanks a lot and seasons greetings from Australia. :)

    • @samanthann92
      @samanthann92  Рік тому

      Either is fine. Having some product isn't a big deal especially if you're dying a few shades different and not something shocking like green or going from black to blonde

  • @carmencdopetron2881
    @carmencdopetron2881 7 років тому +1

    Hi! I have been looking for the perfect hair color and I really think yours, of all the videos i've watched here on youtube, is the BOMB! I just want to ask what kind of blonde would you recommend in lieu of honey blonde that you used? coz unfortunately, we dont have honey blonde in stores :( and, did you still mix the white liquids from both of the white bottle? or just the small bottles? and lastly, should I consider getting medium or light brown because my hair is darker? sorry too many questions haha

    • @samanthann92
      @samanthann92  7 років тому +1

      They don't sell Honey Blonde in stores here either, I buy it online from Target. The luminista line doesn't make a comparable blonde and as that line is meant to lighten dark hair, a blonde shade from the regular colorsilk line won't be as potent. I didn't mix the colors together. I mixed the products in the blonde box in the white bottle and mixed the products in the brown box in its coordinating bottle and went back and forth with pieces to get a more natural and highlighted look. And it really depends what color you're going for. If you're trying to lighten your hair significantly I'd try to find the honey blonde in the luminista line - if you can't then try to find any blonde color you like from that line as it will reduce brassiness, but if you only want to go a few shades lighter I'd get a light neutral or cool brown shade. It will always look darker the first week and will fade. I hope that helps!

    • @carmencdopetron2881
      @carmencdopetron2881 7 років тому

      thank you so much for that Samantha! I hope I'd get the same results :)

    • @samanthann92
      @samanthann92  7 років тому

      Carmen CDO Petron The results will be slightly different for everyone depending how long you leave on the color, what color you're dying from, if you've colored your hair before. But when doing it yourself there's always a little risk, thankfully I've never had a problem!

    can you help me with tips if I needed to mix both colours to get a third one before putting it in my hair how would that be ?
    I always dye my hair at home but never tried mixing 2 colours together, but I went to a great Salon overseas and got it done , and they told me the shades I need to mix together to keep it fresh !
    so all I need to know is the way to mix them :p
    your help would be appreciated.

    • @samanthann92
      @samanthann92  5 років тому

      I have no idea. I am not a professional. I do not mix two together I just go back and forth between two to get dimension. If you want to mix two shades together I would imagine you need to get a bowl from Sally's (not tin or aluminum). You need a brush (the kind they use in a salon) and then could add the two products together. I am not sure how that would work though.

      +Katja Vestergaard Thanks! I would, but I really don't do anything special for dyed hair. I just always use heat protectant, try to use shampoo & conditioners that say safe for color-treated hair and I use whatever lightweight moisturizing oil or cream on my ends that I like at the moment. I haven't had any damage with all my hair dying, except when I got it bleached professionally - and then I just cut it really short and started fresh.

When you're doing it yourself you'll never fully know what color it'll turn out as- so it's always a bit of a risk. The longer you leave it the darker it'll be usually and it depends what color your dying from and if your hair has been died before. Patience Vera Yes, that's what I thought I dyed my hair in the Revlon colour silk 3D medium brown yesterday, I love it so happy, but after watching this video the top half really should have turned out quite a bit darker.
      Now I'm confused, anyway the Revlon coloursilk 3D is a beautiful colour I'm so happy I got rid of all the blonde highlights now I have nice brown hair again.

    • @samanthann92
      @samanthann92  7 років тому +1

      jørdyn if you're making a drastic change it will last longer. But for me I re color my roots every 6-8 weeks. But for fading throughout it depends on your hair and what products you use to maintain the color and care for your hair. I'll notice it fades faster in summer when I'm outside more and last longer in the winter. But by the time it fades I'm usually ready for a change anyway. And it only fades slightly. It won't be as vibrant in about 8-12 weeks if that's what you mean.

      You should not shampoo after dying your hair. As I said in the video I used two shades to have more dimension and no color will look the same on everyone. It depends what color you are dying your hair from and if it has been dyed before or if you have virgin hair. Wait at least 4-6 week before trying again. But I would not recommend washing your hair after. Just rinse and use the conditioner.

      It all depends what color your hair is coming from and if it’s natural or dyed and the porosity of your hair. It will develop differently. If you find boxes dyes don’t work I’d go to a professional and explain that to them, even message someone at Madison reed for expert advice.

      I've never heard of that happening. I guess maybe if your hair is very very blonde or already dyed blonde then mixing brown that has warm undertones could do that, but I don't think so. I'm not a professional and any at home dying is a risk. But if you are going from blonde to dark brown it shouldn't be an issue.

      @samanthann92  5 років тому +1

      Sana Alam I’m not really sure how that would help unless you’re purchasing the same colors in which case it won’t look the same on you unless you have the exact same hair color as me. I used the darker color in my roots so it would look more natural. I also used the darker color around the bottom of my hair that would always naturally be darker as it doesn’t get sunlight. I then used the lighter color wherever I would want dimension and natural highlights and used the darker one in between that going back and forth. You want to gently blend the lighter color with the darker roots as you apply so their isn’t a straight light. You just rub your hair up and down and that does it. I showed all of this so I’m not sure what you’re misunderstanding. Anyway, as long as the two colors use use aren’t too different you should be fine. Mine are drastic because my hair is dyed already and color doesn’t show up too much. If you have virgin hair that has never been dyed it will show up more. If you want to use two colors, which you do not have to, you can use maybe a medium brown and an ash blonde so that the difference is more subtle. If you are that nervous just go to the salon. I am not a professional. This is just what works for me.

      Erum Sohail for highlights I wouldn't use a bowl. I'd use the same format with the bottle. Just squeeze some into your hand and apply until the strand or section you want is saturated. Rub up and down to blend the color wherever you want the light color to start and the root color to end so it's not so harsh and obvious.
