  • The deeper into permaculture I get the more my life changes. One complication with living a sustainable life is: vacationing.
    We are trying to vacation locally, and enjoy our beautiful country. So many Canadians have no idea how beautiful Canada is. We truly live in one of the most amazing countries on the planet.
    I have hiked in Algonquin for my whole life. I normally hike in the interior, but as a compromise for our vacation, we are going RV camping! Come along with us as we hit all the best trails along the Hwy 60 corridor.
    So how nice is Ontario? This upcoming mini hiking and camping series will put Ontario's most beautiful Provincial Park on full display. Let's start off Part 1 with a detailed tour of the Mew Lake campground. Part 2 will then take place on the trail, as we explore the majestic Algonquin Provincial Park.

      I haven't been to Pinery yet, but anytime I read about it I hear great things. I think it's one of our nicest parks.

    Wow, this reminded me so much of my childhood camping trips in Minnesota. That's a long time ago. Thanks for sharing it. It is nice to see where the earth is still in good condition.

    This is where we would walk all the time when I was little. My mom would always take us to that path, and had a huge attachment to that trail! Now that she has passed away, our family did one last hike there together. I haven't been back in Ontario for a while now, so thank you for showing me some of my childhood again!

      OMG that's so amazing. I'm glad you could connect to a bit of your past here. It's a magical place for sure. I hope one day my kids have that exact same feeling when walking around Algonquin when I'm gone.

    It's nice to see you promoting 'camping' as it makes an ideal home holiday.
    Only yesterday, I was despairing at reports that two-fifths of Britons plan to book a trip 'flying' abroad for a holiday this year. I was left thinking - 'Have we Brits learned nothing at all after Covid and all the climate disasters that have been shown on TV?'
    Seems the answer among a sizable proportion of our population is an arrogant and downright ignorant 'No.'
    However, the great thing about camping is you get the chance to thoroughly explore and appreciate the wonders of your own country. Even after living in rural Scotland for nearly 20 years, I'm still amazed by new finds and views within 'walking distance' of my home, let alone a short road trip!

    So jealous, so jealous here...looks so unbelievably fantastic. My family wasn't into camping bushwalking because we had some bush nearby and that gave them their tree dose. I was incredibly lucky to be invited by my mother's work colleague and her brothers to join them on their monthly spring and autumn walking trails. I was only 12 when I joined them and they were all adults. On my first outing, I came back with two black toenails by just not knowing how to handle rocky terrain and having the wrong kind of shoes... I'm surprised they could put up with me. I have so many fond memories of these times..camp fires, wombats, sitting on the edge of cliffs... I hiked most of the Victorian and New South Wales National parks in Australia with this family. They were so generous let me join them. It's really nice seeing that your family are all making the time to appreciate the reserves.

      That's such a nice story. I wish Australia was closer to me. I want to visit so bad, but I don't think I could get over me using all that jet fuel to go see it. I will have to live vicariously through you guys in my winter season. I basically binge watch Aussie gardeners like Self Sufficient Me in my winter time.

    I should mention... this video is intended to be a source of information for people who are planning on camping at Algonquin, specifically for Mew Lake. When we were planning our trip it was really hard to find videos that showed the sites. I mention it in the video, but that's the goal of this one here, to basically provide something to the online community that they can reference. However, if you enjoyed the beginning part of this video, then the next few should be real treats. This one is mostly here for information purposes, not so much entertainment!

  • @PaleGhost69
    @PaleGhost69 2 роки тому +2

    So honest question. How much of an influence was the brand name of the rv? Does it come with it's own pylons or do you need to construct additional ones?

    • @CanadianPermacultureLegacy
      @CanadianPermacultureLegacy  2 роки тому +1

      The brand name doesn't matter, all RVs consume the same amount of Vespene Gas. Once you get their prismatic core online they are armed and ready. Off you go, in the rear with the gear.

      @@formidableflora5951 While I agree with you. It's high time for those Americans with a brain to bring a stop to the temper tantrum, violence loving idiots that will refuse to do anything authority suggests.

    • @CanadianPermacultureLegacy
      @CanadianPermacultureLegacy  2 роки тому

      Yeah, I'm not touching that one with a 10 foot pole. I think there are plenty enough idiots on both sides. The "but muh rights" people are a vast minority of the right. And I say that as someone who leans about as far left as one can possibly imagine. I actually have a LOT in common with a lot of right-minded politics. I'm not sure if you've seen the 4 quadrant political spectrum? It has Authoritarian at the top and Libertarian at the bottom. I think the left vs right is very misleading, and I think divisive politics is there to keep us fighting amongst ourselves and not noticing that we're being maniuplated, controlled and robbed by the rich.
      As an example, an extreme left and extreme right person can have a LOT in common if they are both Authoritarian or if they are both are libertarian. I'm a hard left libertarian. So I actually have a surprising amount in common with someone who is hard-right, but they are libertarian right.
      It's the hard right libertarian corner who are the majority of the "but muh rights" people, but even of that extreme quadrant most of THEM think the "but muh rights" people are silly.
      It's like of like painting all permaculturists as extreme hippies who give their kids peppermint essential oil to try to fight cancer. Or people accidentally killing their dogs because they think their dog should be vegan. I'm sure that's what most people think of when they think of permaculturists.
      I think we do a lot of harm when we stick labels on people and paint with broad brushes. It's intolerance all the way down, and I think it does us no good.
      Even the "but my rights" mentality I can see eye to eye on. Sure, maybe not to the point they take it.... but I do agree that a lot of our personal freedoms get eroded away each decade. And when it happens slowly enough (over several generations), the next thing you know you live in an authoritarian distopia. So as much as I COMPLETELY disagree with them in terms refusing to wear masks during a pandemic, I can also, in a very strange way, agree with the reason why they are taking that stand.
      Hmmmm... maybe I'm a BBQ loving centrist after all...
