For the record, so there's no confusion... the OVERDRIVE light (yellow) is NOT from clipping the amp... that's the RED light that actually says CLIP... The OVERDRIVE is a tube like saturation sound... the higher you go, the more you get... seems you guys would've read the manual to know this before the demo as to not misinform folks... Regardless, great video and playing, loved it
This is what I love to see. It was just like being at a music store and trying the stuff yourself. Its nice to see how flexible an amp head really is. Excellent job!!
Hey from Dublin I have the Mesa Subway D800 and Mesa 1x15 and 1/10 Cabs since early last year. They are absolutely superb for gigging in small, medium & large venues. The “Voicing” is the key to get your preferred tone on this awesome amp 🏆
Here’s a series of show ideas - the all about the bass guys build a complete rig at certain price points ( sub 1,000, 1,500 and no budget). They could steal some of the rules and format from sounds like . Another one could be setting up a beginner rig . (Would be a timely topic if they timed that one with the holidays )
This line seems to compete most directly at Aguilar's TH or AG d-class heads plus SL cabinets. I've had all of these. Using the D800+ amp currently (with a pair of Aguilar Sl112's) and think it sounds a little better than the AG700 - a little more flexibility in the tone options.
Hmm, is it just me or are the deep and bright switches REAAAALLY subtle. Can't hear much of a difference really. But the actual post gain eq sounds really good and versatile. Love the added HPF. You can really crank the bass, but roll off any low frequency rumble that the room you're playing might have. Good job Mesa!
I have pretty decent headphones and speakers, but couldn't really tell with either. I cranked the volume and everything on both, so maybe it's my hearing I gotta go check. :D
I own an 800+. The deep switch has a good amount of low end boost. The bright switch doesn’t add much at all. The midrange controls are the best feature on this amp.
I wonder if it has a bit more of an effect when then the HPF is rolled back some. The HPF is right about 60% when they are playing with it, but the manual also indicates that it lowers the effective frequency of the HPF. "DEEP SWITCH: This switch (and its associated blue indicator LED) engages the DEEP flter, our take on classic low frequency response enhancement and extension. When engaged, there is a mild boost in the very low frequency response while also lowering the effective high pass flter frequency. This combination brings a more round, thicker, fatter response to the bottom end. When using with small (compact style) cabinets, be aware of the possibility of damage due to overpowering at higher volumes." I'll know more tomorrow when FedEx drops mine off! ;)
mesa engineering is the original company name because it sound more credible to suppliers and banks is what Randal Smith at one time said in an interview
Love the review. Helping me decide on whether i want that D800+ and rig you have shown. Other than that the review is extremely enjoyable and comes across like you two guys are just having great fun. Many many thanks for sharing. EDIT to say that the input limit is the same as other amps while the output limit LED takes the amp into Tube emulation mode so the amp needs to be running pretty hard to achieve that effect.
As a guitar player i find it genuinely funny listening to bass players jam. It sounds like muffled jumbled random notes lol. Just shows how your ears get used to hearing certain frequencies
I'm hearing conflicting information on the hi pass filter with the D 800. Another reputable channel stated it's internal on the D 800. I do not know, so I'm hoping somehow this can be confirmed or debunked. Thanks!
I can't really capture the sound of the amplifier due to the nature of their playing style. They have low action and pluck the strings hard. I hear more of the strings being plucked and of them slapping on the fretboard than I do the actual sound. I use the opposite approach in my technique. To each his own.
I agree, something not quite grabbing me, especially at that price point. I usually gig with a Hartke HA5500 head and a GK CX210 cab and I love the sound I get from it! Cuts through the mix well (2 x guitar and a loud drummer!) and is great for small to medium size gigs. The cost of the two units combined was less than the D800 amp here...
lamech006 Made in Taiwan, I think, at list some of their pcb. Mark Bass for example claim that their product are entirely made in Italy but some components are made in Brazil or Asia. Nothing wrong with that but I just think that they say that to justify the high costs of their products.
It's all in the wording! Any product could be entirely built in a country such as Italy, USA or UK but from components manufactured elsewhere. It's just that it is assembled in those countries. Hopefully QC'd there too but even so, a tad misleading...
Yes they can play, but so can I, not interested in your ability, I'm interested in what u are supposed to be demonstrating, these guys always frustrate me, with there "knob twiddling ", never trying to produce any type of "sound""😊
Maysah equipment is overrated and overpriced. Only ever played through one of their bass amps, and it wasn't any better than others a lot less pricey. The 15 cab had an unpleasant low end thump.
It's great when a gear video is worth listening to for the playing as well as the gear. Lovely work.
I'd love to see the Bass version of "Sound like..."
animeditor same
called it lmao
YES!!!
One of the best intro jams I've heard on this channel!! Nailed it!
The best one so far!!!

SUPREMELY TASTY opening jam dudes!
As usual, great playing and a great demo!
All about the bass.........Starts the weekend off on the right foot! Thanks Nathan and Lee!
The tones in the outro jam are soooooooooooo good. Cheers boys!
Greetings from Washington state, USA! I'm late to the party here, but you guys make the best videos. Keep it up!
That intro was one for the ages. Great Groove!
I loved the intro ! You guys put a big smile on my face everytime I see you !
Best amps out there. Roll that high pass filter down on the d800+ with the deep switch and it will rattle walls.

Seriously.. your jams just take me places.

What might be useful for these already great demo's is running through some of the manual suggested settings where available.
That was an amazing intro 👏

I could hear a difference with headphones on, but I think the bright would have been a little more pronounced if playing with a pick.
Insane Rotta I don’t hear much difference, but I’m listening on an iPad
I have pretty decent headphones and speakers, but couldn't really tell with either. I cranked the volume and everything on both, so maybe it's my hearing I gotta go check. :D

Epic opening jam lads!

That jam
Pleaseeeee make a spotify account with each other where you put in all the jamming sessions at the beginning of your vids
We all know that the real secret to that sound comes from the mesa-shoes in the background :)
As a guitar player i find it genuinely funny listening to bass players jam. It sounds like muffled jumbled random notes lol. Just shows how your ears get used to hearing certain frequencies
As a bassist, most lead guitarists sound like a bunch of screaming pentatonic nonsense lol
@@brentmadden789 to be fair, that's actually what it is most of the time
Lee seems like he has some extra energy this time.
Lee reminds me of Gareth from the office lol
What bass is that? The (Ibanez?)
That riff in A was very close to Speed King by Deep Purple there.
When is The Captain meets steve Morse gonna happen ?
I'm hearing conflicting information on the hi pass filter with the D 800. Another reputable channel stated it's internal on the D 800. I do not know, so I'm hoping somehow this can be confirmed or debunked. Thanks!
I have the D800 and it is internal set at 30hz stated in the manual. Killer amps!
Great drum machine demo. Are those basses your playing ?
Way to cover all the knobs as you were sweeping them!
Nice Job
Fender Japan ?
HaFridayFolks!!
Do you guys carry line 6 amps
MAY-SAH.
Surprisingly your relation with Mesa were still intact.
No WD800?
One word Bergantino...
Did he do a Captain Spaudling ye ye ye ye ye ye lol
It's pronounced May Suh.
Well, where can i buy a full album dammit.
Is it normal that a 15 inch speaker produces more treble than a 12 inch? Or could it just be perceived treble addition? I've not used one as of yet
Perhaps a lot of that hi end is coming from Lee's jazz bass. I don't think the cabs have separate tweeters...
@@lamech006 They are separate tweeters I belive, my mesa carbine 1x12 has the same construction. The jazz bass could be the reason though yeah
I shtand corrected. Both cabs have horns.
I can't really capture the sound of the amplifier due to the nature of their playing style. They have low action and pluck the strings hard. I hear more of the strings being plucked and of them slapping on the fretboard than I do the actual sound. I use the opposite approach in my technique. To each his own.
hi
Not really feeling these Mesa amps. In my humble opinion they can't touch Hartke or Gallien-Krueger amps around the same price range.
I traded in my Ampeg svt for this mesa. Tried the Krueger and it was great, but just a matter of taste I guess.
Do some Gibson sg bass
We did that a while back. Have a look in the playlist! Thank you for watching.
Andertons Music Co thank you for replying but all I can find is Epiphone sg and Gibson eb bass demo thanks 🙏 again... love this channel 👍🏽
Mesa are nice sounding heads but I found them overpriced considering also that they are not even entirely made in US , as they claim to be.
I'm guessing they use circuit boards built in Asia?
lamech006 Made in Taiwan, I think, at list some of their pcb. Mark Bass for example claim that their product are entirely made in Italy but some components are made in Brazil or Asia. Nothing wrong with that but I just think that they say that to justify the high costs of their products.

Cabs sound better than the DI!
Yes they can play, but so can I, not interested in your ability, I'm interested in what u are supposed to be demonstrating, these guys always frustrate me, with there "knob twiddling ", never trying to produce any type of "sound""😊
Could’ve been better with a couple DIFFERENT basses and less talking
Like watching…But WAYYYToo much talking
You guys were AMAZING until the moment you opened your mouth.
Maysah equipment is overrated and overpriced. Only ever played through one of their bass amps, and it wasn't any better than others a lot less pricey. The 15 cab had an unpleasant low end thump.
Its pronounced "May-suh"
