Chickens have wattles below the beak and the one on the head is often called a comb. The crop is an organ where food is stored before it moves on for digestion. Your chickens are superb and I absolutely adore them. I can’t wait until I have more skill to achieve this 😊
Thank you for another great teaching video! I just took my very first painted bowls and mugs to an art show and they all sold!! Mine were very amateurish compared to yours, but folks loved them. Thank you so much for your great teaching videos,!!!,
@@Vsmithpots they're so cool! I'm new to clay building. I love the act of building, but kinda skeert of glazing!! Apparently I'm not the only one feeling the same. You have sime great videos outlining tons of subjects, thank you for all your kind efforts in sharing your knowledge!!
Love this! Any chance you'd do another video of these but make fish? Can't wait to try my hand at it. Love your videos and my piece that I bought from you, which hangs in my studio and inspires me everyday.
I have the fish video in production and will post it next week. I am glad you are happy with the piece. Our studios are a sanctuary during this weird time. Stay safe.
Community Verified icon

Very talented. How are they microwave and dishwasher safe. Do you put on a special glaze or is the clay what makes it that. I'm just getting into pottery and trying to learn as I go. I live close to the pottery supply house in Toronto. You said 516 pottery right. You are very talented. I enjoy watching and making notes on your tips you have. Thank you for videos. Be safe and enjoy everything.
There is a lot to learn Heidi. 516 is correct. Microwave pottery needs to be low in Iron in the clay and glaze. It should also be non porous and not be crazed.
@@Vsmithpots thanks practice makes perfect so I learn by trial and error. Doing ok with slab building, got some free molds for slip casting and my husband built me a pottery wheel. Going to start practicing on that soon.

Thanks for the clarification, we had 10 chickens for awhile, I knew the comb but have never heard the term Wattle.
Thank you so much! Adorable! I’ll try one as a vase💐
Even though I am not a potter, I found this to be very relaxing and informative.
Thank you.
Your kitty on the pillow. Your lovely garden outside. Your beautiful art. You are a positive influence on the big ball.

What an adorable chicken boat!!! I would love to make one too; you've garnered a new follower, Mr. Smith!

I love your work and videos. I get inspired to do more of my own art instead of going off someone else's art. Thanks.
That's the ticket, get more creative.
I just found you! I LOVE these fish! You are so talented 😊
Thank you, I hope you get time to watch some of the older videos.
These are SOO FUN!! I love how you make them all look so different. I wish I could do this by hand building!!
I will show them glazed next week, I think you could do them using a wraparound slab built form.
Sure you could use cylinder, slab a piece clay, then follow the video. You would Have add circle for bottom. Then add pieces on just like him. 😊
Super cute! Love these!
Thanks.
Love these! Thanks for sharing! I love all the shapes in your final photo! Gorgeous craftsmanship!
Thank you.
Brilliant! Hope we to see them glazed soon. Looking forward to the fish video.
Just did two days of glazing so I can fire them tomorrow.

I made two roosters but the tail is less easy to hold on to. Good luck.
Lovely
Fantastic Vaughn!! Wow!!
Thanks again.
Thanks for this…yet another idea I will have to fit into my schedule! Good luck for lowering figures and a chance for opening your studio.

On making the chicken pitcher's can they be adjusted to make handles (instead of the tail feathers) for some of us that are clumsy and left handed.
I am sure that is an option

How many pads clay did you use? 2-3 lbs..
I think I used 1 1/4 lb balls of clay.
