As we laid under our boat this morning discussing the convention and unconventional mounting pros/cons of the ps30, I said I would call Marc in the morning and discuss which way you were leaning. Thanks for the timely posting of the video, you answered my questions. It's definitely a individual user decision on how you want to view the information. You're right about lack of info shared about using panoptic for salmon fishing. Not much out there. We haven't had the benefit to see the panoptix in action so we appreciate the info you have shared. Your videos will be helpful for all 👍, looking fwd to hearing from Garmin pro. Oh ya, you're going to luv Rytek mounts, our transom is covered with them 💪
Glad it was helpful…. I can’t wait to convert the entire boat over…. I honestly feel like a PS30 (with 31 mount) and a Livescope on a pole could be the perfect setup as it would allow you to scan your divers etc. Feels like it is going to get expensive.
Just found your channel today. Great information. I am in the process of getting a new to me Striper 2101 and I really want to try for Ontario Salmon. I also got the Garmin on sale this year. I will be using the transducer that came with it for now as the bank manager has drawn a line in the sand!! I will be waiting for the next installment in this series
Great video! I just purchased a unit as well. I made my unit portable so that I could use it in multiple applications from ice fishing, walleye jigging, and salmon trolling. I planned on mounting mine to a pole to "look" . I wasn't aware of the P30 transducer, so I may hard mount that on my boat in the configuration you described. 👍
Hi Mark ,I enjoy your videos .Im in Maine and have been to lake Ontario trolling for Kings a hand full of times.I normally fish in Maine for pike. I fish 4 line with large spoons any where from 10 to 30 feet down and 30 to 100 feet back.Im running the Garmin ultras .can you recommend a transducer and mounting orientation so that I can see my 4 lines? I’m going to purchase it for this coming spring Thank you Donald
Marc, just purchased same set up as you. Just curious is the gt54 needed in order for panoptix to get the proper picture? I’m hoping ps30 can be a stand-alone transducer to go along with lowarance I run now
This video and your next ones are gonna be costing me some coin in the future! Looking to add this to my 21 foot aluminum. Curious why you went with the GT 54 over options like the gt 41 - guessing it is because you also have the p66 and b60. Would you suggest if running just a single transitional sonar and also the ps 30 that you go with the GT 41 for the 50/200? (main focus on great lakes trolling)
Exactly…. GT54 came with it and I have the p66 already on the boat that I can use. If I was buying from scratch with no previous transducers I’d do what you suggested.
@@KingsLandingSportFishing It almost looks like I can see white lines shooting to bottom on my screen and I was in 200fow and rigger at 160 couldn't see the rigger ball. Any insight? There are some settings on the graph not sure exactly which to use. Thanks!

PS30 and 31 is exactly the same.. its about how you wanna run it side ways or long ways. Long ways looking ahead and looking back far. Ran it like that since it came out 5 years ago. That echomap unit is a cheap unit with low resolution... run gpsmap 8412. Totally different game...
Sorry my friend.. the PS30 and PS31 are not the same. Just ask a Garmin rep or take a look at their website and the specs. I have friends with both transducers and they have different field of views. Also confirmed with a Team Garmin member. It’s a lot more than just a mounting bracket.
The only difference between ps30 and 31 is the orientation of the mounting bracket. The transducers are the same. Calling it a flipped ps30 is equivalent to calling it a ps31. While the LS angle is 20 vs 60, you should see the the image quality of the XR transducer. You can see a wire diver out 150 and the lure no problem but it's needs to be on a pole to see your spread.
Hi John, The PS30 and PS31 are different transducers. I’ve seen the output of both to confirm this. Good friend of mine has an XR and loves it. Only challenge is he doesn’t get the view in front of the boat (at the same time as the back) like you do with a flipped PS30
@@KingsLandingSportFishing Garmin and I disagree. The differences you're seeing boat to boat are from different chartplotters, settings, mounting location and water clarity as they are in fact the same transducer.
Great video and thanks for the chat. Picking this up tomorrow😊
Good job I look forward to more videos in the future!!

PS30 is the way to go for Salmon trolling and I highly recommend flipping it with the RyTek marine mount.
Thanks for the review. What is the top fish detection sensor for the Garmin echomap ultra 102 today? Garmin Lvs34? Thanks in advance.
It really depends on the type of fishing you are doing and how deep you’re fishing
I'm ready to install mine. Do you have a pic of your ducer mounted on transom? Some close ups would be nice. Thanks
Great topic I have Lawrence equivalent of Garmin panoptix.
Have you ever angled the ducer up to see farther back? I am changing my PS 30 to this right away.
Hey man just got panoptics installed above plug in transom is this a good location?

PS30 in standard rotation should pickup Downriggers and Divers. Also a PS31 facing backwards should do it S well
Does the PS30 transducer plug into the GLS10 sonar box as well? I have the new GLS34 transducer but would Ike the PS30 as well for fishing Lake Huron.
It plugs into a network port. Mine is connected to my GMS10 Network Hub.

No need to run the GT54

So don't you need the GLS 10 BOX WITH YOUR TRANSDUCER ?
Not with the PS30
Great way to think about panoptix is it’s more like live radar under the water than sonar
How about the new heavy duty bracket with spray guard from Garmin?
I’ve never seen it…. Have a link?
Marc are you able to see your dipseys if they are out 100 ft
Not in flipped mode… standard mode you can depending on the setting.. I’ve picked them up on a 1 and 2 setting
What mode is used with this? Live vu down?
Yes.. LiveVu down
