    I visited Zambia from the UK for a month when I was 17 and it was a life changing experience. I'm looking at a chalk painting right now framed on my wall that I bought from a guy on the street in Lusaka. White water rafting the Zambezi was incredible! The locals we interacted with were very warm and friendly. Countries like Kenya and Morocco are probably the most recognised tourist destinations in Africa but exploring Zambia was one of the greatest experiences of my life.

      It is definitely a country like no other! I only wish that I vlogged back in 2009 during my first visit to Victoria Falls, South Luangwa National Park, and the cities of Livingstone and Chipata. Definitely an amazing country!

      I visited Venezuela in 2008 when it was still relatively normal (but ultra-socialist). It was nothing like it is today. I don't think I'd ever go back, nor do I have any desire to see anything there apart from Angel Falls. Otherwise, Venezuela is as bad as they say. I'll leave it to the Drew Binsky's of the world to find good where not much exists - I'd rather just be honest.

    • @DrifterDave
      @DrifterDave  4 роки тому +5

      Yes, Lusaka is overwhelmingly safe and secure. There are certain parts where I felt less safe carrying around my expensive video equipment (around people who were clearly drunk or on drugs) but Zambia is an incredibly safe place. And I echo your sentiment - I also feel less safe in the USA than in Zambia! 😂

      That was awesome of you. Thanks! When your in the embassy community, your assigned a sponsor. A sponsor is a fellow american embassy family that shows the new family to post around. We take them to get groceries and give them the tour of their new post. Well we were on our way back from showing the new family the school. We took a turn down leopards hill road to head back towards kabulonga. We didnt realize the president was coming down the road. There were people lined up the whole way to town waiting to catch a glimpse of him. Being american, we were instructed by the marines at the embassy never to stop our car for police or citizens. Basically dont pull over. So my mom was being waved to the side of the road to pull over, but because of the protocall for Americans my mom kept going. They finally blockaides the road with their bodies and she had to pull over. It ended with the new american family in the car, my brothers and sister of age 8 and below, and myself being surrounded with 5 M16s and my mother a pistol to her head over the glass. Needless to say, I'd say a gathering is the president coming. Definitely pull over

    Interesting fact about the freedom statue, it was modelled after a real person (forgot his name) who ACTUALLY broke the chains he was locked in. The British colonialists arrested him after a riot, and were goading and taunting him to break the chains if he wanted his freedom. He did and now he's a freedom statue

      @@DrifterDave I think for those less fortunate and without adequate formal education limited spoken English is to be expected, the key is to adapt and to practice listening to English from speakers with very little English so as to pick out expressions, also a little more patience may provide a lot more confidence from the speaker as potentially they feel self conscious speaking to a white man, while not feeling competent enough to Express themselves fully in English, in my job, I interact with a lot of nationalities from non English speaking countries, I've learnt to focus on key words in order to understand and occasionally gesturing or signing to be understood better, giving them more time to compose themselves and speak has been quite useful too, it does help and can provide sufficient information

I managed to fight the three young men (about age 21) off as they tried to pin me down to steal my wallet and camera. A few punches and kicks to the face sent them running. One was arrested.
