This is So disappointing! Having lived there for 35+ years I think you needed to be taken around by someone who knows where to take you. There is so much to do in Lusaka itself and you are not portraying a true picture of what lusaka is which is so sad. I wish you could come back and I'd be more than happy to take you around when I return back to Lusaka. I don't think he did any justice taking you around.
But he's being honest. Most of them are the oldest places in Lusaka that give a true definition of Lusaka and Zambia. We just need to up the game as Zambians and rise up to international standards. He's a tourist who has probably visited similar places in other countries, and he just did a comparison.

I visited Lusaka last month for two days (I'm from Canada) and really enjoyed it. I found it lively, interesting and fun. The markets and Cairo street are fascinating. I'm surprised he didn't mention the national museum (behind the statue), which I found excellent.

I am very much a city boy, grew up here, but moved abroad as an adult. I went back recently for a couple of weeks vacation after a long interruption, and was delighted to see how much it grew since I left. That said, I tend to agree. I love Lusaka, but I have to admit it is not really a city for visiting, but for living. The most interesting thing here are the people - and they're the best - not the buildings or locations. You don't need a tour guide, you need friends who live there, so you can get under its skin and into its lifeblood. If you're only here for a few days, then admittedly there's not much.
I Really love Zambia, just as so many countries around in Southern Africa, the people are so kind. I isn't that easy to travel around, still I love those countries.
Yes any city in the world would appear to be less interesting if you are cheap and cheerful 😛 Lusaka is a very exciting place to be depending on what you are looking for. Visiting London would just be as boring if you only have £0.50 to spend as well 🤭
Mate, having enough money to enjoy Lusaka or any other city is the reason for the point that Lusaka is not an interesting city. A good example is that we don’t have a public park in the city centre area to be enjoyed by everyone (tourists included) for free. In my view, when enjoyment of a city is linked to having more money, then the city ceases to be interesting.
@@TravelTomTom You may have money but you just did not want to spend it well in Lusaka :) When you travel anywhere, have some open mind - you will learn more and have more fun that way. I love to travel a lot and have been to some exciting places too. Personally for me it is not when I am staying in multi story 5 star accomodation but when I mingle with the local people. There is always something postive about people and places even in the most remote places!
As someone that works in the tourism industry, I'd advise you to use a trained tour guide next time for you to actually enjoy Lusaka otherwise you will always be disappointed. Lusaka has so much to offer than the markets you showed you didn't see anything, such a shame.

I spent a few days in Lusaka there is a bit to do if you are into cafes , rooftops and pool sides. And generally as hub as most buses to other places unfortunately require you coming back to Lusaka to connect
You needed a guide/a tour guide that's knows information about Lusaka's history and current state. People like me that have lived there for all their lives would show you everything you need to know. You need more than just one day to tour Lusaka. I hope you can do another video on Lusaka, this time with someone that knows Lusaka well. People will watch this and be misguided. we all make mistakes and I'm sure you were not properly informed. i suggest you redo this video. As you can see from the comments section there is a lot of backlash from Zambians that know Lusaka well.
I spent 4 days in Lusaka, simply admit it is a no-go for tourists. How can you recommend anyone to come visit Lusaka… i just dont get it! 🤷🏽♂️ i might be wrong, but im traveling for 3,333+ days continuously. Only very few ppl in the world ever did the same. @@TravelTomTom I think that you should visit more in Zambia maybe not in Lusaka for example Vicotria falls, lower Zambezi, south luamnga, kafue, Liuwa plains, kapisha hot springs. In lsuaka you could visit hero stadium, freedom statue, etc.

I’m sorry,but iv leaved in lusaka my whole life and I’m surprised each time I explore it because they are many beautiful places iv never known existed until recently, for example makeni, matero,Rhodespark,lusaka west and south, Mandevu,chilenje and chelston (I could go on)all have incredible history and depict a modern day lusaka The problem was that the makers of this video focused only on the ‘town’ areas but lusaka city is so much more than just the central business district and had you taken an extensive tour rather than a basic tour, in fact,this was a textbook version tour 😂 you would understand my point which is that,it is not possible to really see and know lusaka in a day!

As someone who was born and raised in Lusaka I find this video a poor representation of what my city actually is and has to offer. On one hand you want to talk about not just seating in a nice hotel having a drink but what you did was not a representation of Lusaka daily life, maybe you should have asked your your guide to show you what he does on a daily basis and the places he enjoys to have an actual feel of the daily lifestyle.

This was a specific tour that specifically covers the places we went and the things we did. To do things and go places that were not included in the tour package was going to be another story altogether. 2. Nice. I have been to Zambia it's a very beautiful place. I think you covered the bad side of Lusaka. Just like if you come to America in Washington DC. You clearly just woke up, decided to get on a bus to lusaka without any idea what you were going to do and asked the first person you saw walking on the street to give you a tour. I lived in Lusaka over 50 years ago for a couple of years. It has changed a lot, I vaguely remembered the market, and certainly the cathedral as I lived near there. I didn't really recognise anywhere else. We used go to Munda Wanga but as I remember it was just a garden with a swimming pool, nice place to go though.
As much as I’m trying to respect your opinion I believe you did not get a good enough tour to make an informed judgment. Lusaka is one of the most fun and exciting cities to be in. Your welcome to come back and reevaluate.
Sightseeing in Lusaka isn’t the best? Mate why didn’t you for a game drive, or go on a cheetah walk or see the lions? You can’t see one part of Lusaka and then say it isn’t the best. They are plentiful of beautiful places in Lusaka.

I can understand why some Zambians are unhappy after watching this....but he makes a very valid point for any prospective tourists. There really ISN`T much to do or see for a visitor. There`s no real focal point. It`s not even clear where the centre is. Unless you consider it Shoprite. I say this as someone who grew up in Zambia and so has some knowledge and considerable affection for the country..and worked in Lusaka for a couple of weeks a few years ago. I really struggled to find anywhere you could just immerse yourself apart from the markets, and was counting down the days and nights before I could move on to elsewhere in Zambia.

Nah. I kinda disagree. There are quite a few touristy places but 1. They r not levied towards infrastructure but more so towards nature/natural beauty and wildlife. (Such as game parks, zoos, waterfalls, lakes etc.) 2. Because of this the attractions r not in "the city center" which isn't shoprite bozo🤨 check on Google maps. Nor r within walking distance. Also, ur coming to a 3rd world country expecting to see some fcking Leaning tower of Pisa or Arc de Trioph 💀 Going to town to see advanced infrastructure lmao. Like don't be goofy obviously tourists don't come here for Kabwata market🤣 they come for stuff like The Victoria falls, Kalombo falls, Lake Tanganyika etc.

@@TravelTomTom You may have money but you just did not want to spend it well in Lusaka :) When you travel anywhere, have some open mind - you will learn more and have more fun that way. I love to travel a lot and have been to some exciting places too. Personally for me it is not when I am staying in multi story 5 star accomodation but when I mingle with the local people. There is always something postive about people and places even in the most remote places!

As someone that works in the tourism industry, I'd advise you to use a trained tour guide next time for you to actually enjoy Lusaka otherwise you will always be disappointed. Lusaka has so much to offer than the markets you showed you didn't see anything, such a shame.

I spent a few days in Lusaka there is a bit to do if you are into cafes , rooftops and pool sides. And generally as hub as most buses to other places unfortunately require you coming back to Lusaka to connect

You need more than just one day to tour Lusaka. I hope you can do another video on Lusaka, this time with someone that knows Lusaka well. People will watch this and be misguided. we all make mistakes and I'm sure you were not properly informed. i suggest you redo this video. As you can see from the comments section there is a lot of backlash from Zambians that know Lusaka well.
I spent 4 days in Lusaka, simply admit it is a no-go for tourists. @@TravelTomTom I think that you should visit more in Zambia maybe not in Lusaka for example Vicotria falls, lower Zambezi, south luamnga, kafue, Liuwa plains, kapisha hot springs. In lsuaka you could visit hero stadium, freedom statue, etc.

I kind of agree with you,Lusaka doesn't really have a lot of sightseeing places,but there is a lot of fun things you could do..and of course that's if you are with someone who knows the city.
Its disappointing to see that they are still people who take tours just to expose the bad side of a place. Of course Lusaka isn`t a tourist resort area but there are a lot of things that makes it a beautiful city. I’m sorry,but iv leaved in lusaka my whole life and I’m surprised each time I explore it because they are many beautiful places iv never known existed until recently, for example makeni, matero,Rhodespark,lusaka west and south, Mandevu,chilenje and chelston (I could go on)all have incredible history and depict a modern day lusaka
The problem was that the makers of this video focused only on the ‘town’ areas but lusaka city is so much more than just the central business district and had you taken an extensive tour rather than a basic tour, in fact,this was a textbook version tour 😂 you would understand my point which is that,it is not possible to really see and know lusaka in a day!

As someone who was born and raised in Lusaka I find this video a poor representation of what my city actually is and has to offer. On one hand you want to talk about not just seating in a nice hotel having a drink but what you did was not a representation of Lusaka daily life, maybe you should have asked your your guide to show you what he does on a daily basis and the places he enjoys to have an actual feel of the daily lifestyle.
He is one of those who expect to get everything cheap because he is Africa.

To come off trying to paint me as a non patriotic Zambian and an incompetent tour guide is just distasteful.
As far as I know, I represented Zambia and Lusaka to the best of my ability under the circumstances, and here are the reasons why.
1. This was a specific tour that specifically covers the places we went and the things we did. To do things and go places that were not included in the tour package was going to be another story altogether.
2. Tom my tourist did not ask for a customized tour that was going to include more places and more things to do and obviously cost more. I know all the interesting things to do and all the great places to go in and around Lusaka that you can think of. From zoos to art galleries to gourmet food restaurants to bars to hotels to monumental and heritage sites to animal farms and parks. But it all depends on customization and costs and time.
3. This was an expedited tour as Tom and his friends were only going to be in town one day. You don't expect as to go to every cool place and do all the interesting things to do in and around Lusaka in just one day, do you?
4. Tom travels around the world for a living and he has been to over 100 countries. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, so to him comparing Zambia to the other countries he's visited wasn't that good an experience for him and that's his opinion.
Let's face it, when you have travelled to over 100 countries (including well developed countries) Zambia wouldn't be your most interesting country. But if all you have known is only Zambia or a few other countries, then maybe Zambia maybe the most interesting country to you.
Now I love Zambia and to me it is the best country in the world, this is my opinion and it's the only home I have ever known.

I lived in Lusaka over 50 years ago for a couple of years. It has changed a lot, I vaguely remembered the market, and certainly the cathedral as I lived near there. I didn't really recognise anywhere else. We used go to Munda Wanga but as I remember it was just a garden with a swimming pool, nice place to go though.
As much as I’m trying to respect your opinion I believe you did not get a good enough tour to make an informed judgment. Lusaka is one of the most fun and exciting cities to be in. Your welcome to come back and reevaluate.

I can understand why some Zambians are unhappy after watching this....but he makes a very valid point for any prospective tourists. There really ISN`T much to do or see for a visitor. There`s no real focal point. It`s not even clear where the centre is. Unless you consider it Shoprite. I say this as someone who grew up in Zambia and so has some knowledge and considerable affection for the country..and worked in Lusaka for a couple of weeks a few years ago. I really struggled to find anywhere you could just immerse yourself apart from the markets, and was counting down the days and nights before I could move on to elsewhere in Zambia.
Yep all should be consider from the POV of a tourist who has limited holidays off from work. Zambia is awesome, Lusaka is just not interested enough for tourists that is imo the bottomline🙏🏻❤️
Nah. I kinda disagree. There are quite a few touristy places but
1. They r not levied towards infrastructure but more so towards nature/natural beauty and wildlife. (Such as game parks, zoos, waterfalls, lakes etc.)
2. Because of this the attractions r not in "the city center" which isn't shoprite bozo🤨 check on Google maps. Nor r within walking distance.
Also, ur coming to a 3rd world country expecting to see some fcking Leaning tower of Pisa or Arc de Trioph 💀 Going to town to see advanced infrastructure lmao. Like don't be goofy obviously tourists don't come here for Kabwata market🤣 they come for stuff like The Victoria falls, Kalombo falls, Lake Tanganyika etc.
