    As a biased Nuggets fan, the way I see it, they didn't do anything to answer the Jokic question. Jock Landale played Jokic way tougher than Ayton did and they let him walk. Now it just feels like they have 4 players that basically do the same thing and aren't really synergistic.

I've watched DEN all last year and I notice something that no one is mentioning: DEN doesn't need to take a bunch of 3 points to win, despite having great 3 pt shooters. People don't seem to realize how this makes them dangerous. Also, their team defense is underrated. They can win 3 in a row if they remain consistent and get a few good defensive players.

    The reason why curry and KD worked so well, and kyrie, devin booker, Russell Westbrook did not work as well is because curry isn’t necessarily a traditional iso point guard KD works best in iso situations because he’s practically unguadable in those situations you gotta double team him. But curry is so good off the ball you can’t do that, curry will run around screens all day long and will get open off the ball easily if someone is isolating. Or KD can also play off the ball for curry. That’s why they worked well together and were practically an unbeatable team. However everyone else KD has played with have been iso players and won’t be able to create as well as curry does off the ball. Leading to the problem of there being to much iso play and not enough team play. Chris Paul is the exception to that because he’s a pick and roll pg that creates enough space for other players to be able to do that and that’s why they almost won the title before injuries.

    • @markenscastelly
      @markenscastelly Рік тому +7

      Let’s not forget that with curry and Kd you also had draymond and klay. While also having really good bench and solid roster all around nets lacked depth and did not have the defensive two way players that gsw had it wasn’t just curry and Kd out their. To not mention the entire roster is smack in the face. If Kd and Westbrook had the same role players and even a draymond and klay type player on the team they would’ve been just as successful.

    • @leviuzumaki3903
      @leviuzumaki3903 Рік тому

      @@markenscastelly of course but I’m just mostly talking about iso players and iso point guards. Klay is an off ball 3 and D player, and dreymond although brings the ball up occasionally and passes the ball and plays defense he doesn’t really do much else to keep someone else from isolating. In fact he’ll give them the ball and let them do it while going to set a screen for someone like curry or Klay. He doesn’t hinder the teams flow. That’s what I’m saying and that’s why it worked well.

    Alot of it has to do with Jokic. He isnt like watching Giannis, or Lebron, or KD, hes not flashy. Its like watching the old NFL teams that just run it up the middle and win 14- 3. Its just really dominant fundemental team Basketball that flashy teams cant beat. Jokic is the most dominant Big in the game, he cN do it all (except flash big time dunks, poor guy has white boy disease) but hes sooooo good, and the players around him are perfect fot the system, plus Micheal Porter was like back when the spurs tanked as a top 3 team in the league and they benched the top 6 players for the year and brought Dominique Wilkens back from overseas ball and let him bring the fan into the games and he just scored at will but they couldnt win with just him. So that gave em the #1 pick and landed Tim Duncan. Well Porter Jr got hurt at Missouri and so teams let him drop to 14..... Are you kidding me.... He was by far the best player in the draft. Well Denver stole a #1 caliber pick with their already loaded roster. Plus there system allows the role playera to be plugged in and out without measing with the main core..... No one cares that it's a great team "on paper". Because most teams that look great "on paper" never actually look great on the court. This is why a lot of players don't give a damn about analytics and all of those hyper-focused stats. Cause at the end of the day, you could have the best team on the planet "on paper" but they ain't winning shit if the players don't mesh and if their play-styles don't mesh
    Looking at the Suns, they don't have that primary distributor that'll give up shots to make the right plays, something that CP3 did for them. With KD, Beal, and Book, THEY ONLY HAVE ONE BASKETBALL to play with lol. You could say that with 3 ball dominant stars, they could stagger minutes so they have at least one of them on the floor at all times to lead the offense, but that only works if you have a deep bench that support them. And the Suns' bench is as shallow as a puddle of water on the sidewalk of a hot Arizona day.
    And they are SMALL at the post. You could hope Ayton turns into a beast this year, but he'll probably be mediocre and won't be motivated to try. He wanted to be the #1 guy, that's why he wanted to go to the Pacers last off season. This will just be a less toxic version of the Nets.

    for me Phoenix is first round exit team
    the lack of depth would kill them in the playoffs in the stacked west
    Denver are still top dogs even without Bruce Brown
    Lakers - what they did at the deadline last season was rematkable and now they have time to work on chemistry in the team
    Warriors - in my opinion getting Chris Paul for Jordan Poole make their 2nd line twice as consistent than last season and even tho CP3 could melt again in playoffs, but he is top of the smartest players in the league and he knows Phoenix in and out
    Clippers - we still don't know how strong they would be if healthy but Kawhi, PG and Russ as a big 3 and really solid role players (with Russ additional motivation on beating KD) should be absolutely tough matchup for Suns
    Mavs - upgraded defense and Kyrie Luka duo which at the end of the last season was starting to click
    OKC - maybe it's too early but Shai, Giddey and finally Chet are pretty scary trio
    Kings - most underapriciated, 3 seed last season and they picked up Euroleague MVP Vezenkov for their pretty solid team with Fox and Sabonis as a main stars
    Timberwolves - If KAT is Traded for solid value it really could be scary team with Edwards, Gobert and idk maybe Mikal Bridges
    And I think all of those teams bench is miles better than the Suns bench and I don't think that old KD, Unmotivated Ayton or injury prone Beal would play 48 minutes to make up for it maybe if they trade Ayton for depth i will change my mind but before that i have them as a 6th seed and first round exit

    I do not see it, and you do not see it either since all you talk about here is the scoring and shooting percentages and assists, while defense is what wins championships. Two slightly undersized guards, one past his prime, plus KD who is not a defensive stopper, and still Josh Okogie at Small Forward who got absolutely destroyed and dominated by Aaron Gordon and Michael Porter Jr. Like, nobody on the roster can guard Jokic, nobody on the roster can guard Aaron Gordon, and Booker will have to take on Murray and good luck to him. Where Denver destroyed Phoenix last playoffs was at the forward positions, and Eric Gordon is a good player and addition but the man is 6'3" and 34 years old, he cannot be on the floor against Aaron Gordon or Michael Porter Jr, who are 6'8" and 6'10" and fast and long and athletic.
    There was a single game in the playoffs where Denver was +50 at the SF position for the game, and Phoenix added...Eric Gordon. Look, I understand the finances of paying for star talent, but outside of KD none of the Forwards are making even $3 million dollars, and you really do get what you pay for in sports usually. Then KD is older now and it is definitely a question if his body will hold up, and if not then Phoenix will be trying to win a ring with a posse of bargain basement forwards, and no, that will not work, for sure.

  • @showtimenick824

    I still think the Nuggets should be favored and I still think the Suns are frauds. KD's age has caught up with him and unless he's playing for the Warriors, physical defense has gotten him off his game in some big playoff games even before the Boston series last year. Don't just look at the stats for each series, watch the games and use the stats with context since stats can be flawed. His 2013 stats vs the Grizzlies are very flawed. Devin Booker still hasn't proven to really be clutch. He did take his team to the Finals as the best player on the team but hasn't really taken a leap since then and choked really hard last year. Bradley Beal is also injury prone.

You can blow all your salary on three stars and boom, everyone says you have a superteam but another team can sign two stars and use the 40 million from the third star to bring in great depth and they're probably in a stronger position. For me a great duo with depth is always a better way to go than three stars surrounded by minimum contract guys.
