It’s not private schools that “hold ur hands” it’s selective schools. Schools like sydney boys do way better than majority of private schools. The best of the best would be a selective private school or a school that ranks high for its average Atar.
Its not really about the private or public more about geographical location. In Australia the further you get from the city the more likely you are to struggle

Nah its different in private, selective can have terrible teachers its all on the kids

My sister got a 98.95 atar and no private school so that’s wrong
