Was also part of the group of yaks. We saw you but didn't engage as you were technically on the German side of the front. We hadn't got the report that our tanks had pushed up so far so we assumed you were friendly Sturmoviks working on German positions!
I planned the mission and it was all in the briefing ;)

A great free campaign I'd recommend is the "Nightfighters over Kuban" which has you flying Bf-110Gs at night against A20s, B25s, C47s and U2VS directed by scripted ground radar, wonderfully different way to fly (started this comment before you revealed this being part of a co-op campaign rather than the scripted free campaign on the forums that shares the Panzerknackers name)

A nice video, but it would be nice to get some statistic at the end if you have any. The reason your videos are so good is your narration and the story you give to the vehicles you operate and this was lacking that.
I actually liked the radio chatter (your solo commentary videos are great too). It just spiced things up. Air to ground/anti tank stuff can feel a bit more mundane, procedural. But with so many actual people playing, it helped to hear all that and see the other planes trying to work together. Good stuff.
Your varying content makes this my favorite channel. Keep up the good work!

I just started getting into this plane myself. I was expecting something truly awful, but it's amazing how fun it is to just sort of loiter over a target and methodically destroy things with that cannon. It feels like a WWII version of an A-10. Too bad we don't have the B-3 variant with the 75mm gun.
Been flying the Steel Birds scripted campaign lately. When reading the mission briefings, Wolfpack345's voice is what I hear...lol. BIG fan of your channel!

Oh cool! I didn't know you were on this mission with FTC. I watched Sherriff's video in the 109 a couple days back. He got smoked with a lucky shot by a YAK. Still made it back.
That was me who shot him and it wasn't a lucky shot haha. He was actually lucky he heard me coming otherwise I would have killed him

Yeah I've done a bunch of testing in the past with the hs129. You have a lot more chances to disable a tank if you shoot it directly from behind. Side shots seem to not pen the armor most of the times. It has worked before, but it's not very reliable.
I bought this game a few days ago. Will check more of your videos. Played the original IL2 until 2012, then I discovered Kerbal Space Program. Interested to see if you'll be testing KSP2.

I love the 129. I can't imagine it would have been a pleasant flyer though. What with anyone taller than a toddler having to basically shoehorn themselves into the cockpit, then spending the whole time with your face smooshed right up against the front armor pane. Still love the plane though.

Hi Wolfpack, great content, as always. One question: do you think that IL-2 is on par with DCS in terms of flight model and realism? just asking, I can't play either (potato pc).
I really don’t think there’s any game that’s on par with DCS. However IL-2 has features and stuff you can do that DCS doesn’t have. I love both games personally it’s really just a pick your poison kind of thing. but you should be able to run IL-2 GB on the lowest settings, if not it should take very minimal upgrades
I'd say you get DCS if minutiae is you're thing, since procedures are more complex with the clickpits, where as IL-2 has a lot of these systems present but handled automatically. Il-2 has quite convincing flight models, and to my mind it's biggest strength over DCS for WWII is that it comes in cohesive packages, everything that is in game (at least in terms of what vehicles are made, there are a couple of field mods that were testbed only) are in there because they fit one or more of the battles covered by the series, you won't have orphan aircraft like the I-16 or Corsair, or aircraft that aren't quite right for the theater (for example practically all the WWII ETO birds available are too late for, or arrived right at the tail end of the Normandy campaign, and yet Normandy is where you have to fly them.
TLDR: what sort of realism is important to you? IF you want to run the checklists and flip every switch, DCS. If you want to fit into a coherent period correct environment, in an aircraft that handles as it should and lets you control most of what you need to control, go Il-2.

I love shooting these thing down. They burn good, have no tailgunner and are really slow.
Ju 87 on the other hand is a tank. Difficult to down.

Something great (or annoying depending on perspective) since the release of tank crew, is that Il-2 now has a variety of "kill" states for tanks and ground vehicles, killing crew, destroying the engine, fires, ammo detonation, breaking suspension or tracks, etc. The drawback of course is since not every dead tank explodes you can have a hard time telling from a moving aircraft which ones are actually active or not.
Any plans on doing more subsim content in the future? Regardless keep up the good work!

@@7tp96 only in war thunder, irl the Germans tested it but it was too heavy for the hs129 so it never saw combat. Both 30mm mk101s and mk103s saw service though, and is what wolf is using

If you're asking about the plane itself, it's - among other reasons - because it's overweight and cramped already. It's powered by two outdated French Gnome-Rhöne engines and carries heavy armor and arnament. The plane could barely fly by itself, the last thing it needed was another crew compartment, weapons, armor and ammunition for it. So basically it was already on its limits

Feel like you need to attack with more altitude and a steeper angle to actually kill some tanks
Allies have radar over 250m we were trying to keep under it so ground control wouldn't tell the yaks where we are.
@@connla I mean at that point bombs would probably become the desired weapon, 900 ft altitude is too low for effective gun hits. 5000ft elevation with a pull off of 1000ft is about standard for gun usage. The steeper the angle the better is best for any munition hit probability and aircraft survival but at least bombs with delay have a chance of inertia bringing them to the target if your a bit short and the angle of impact is short enough.
@@iranash1797 shrug I was only Red 2, I didnt draw up the flight plan or plan of attack. We did initially carry bombs, but they were intended for any potential AAA or soft targets. When it was clear it was all armour the order came in to drop them and focus on the tanks with the gun.
