I was almost certain that the "items in the truck" bit was going to consume the entire remaining runtime of the video so I moused-over the timeline to see if that was going to happen. Love your work as always!
One of my favorite things about Peace Walker is maxing out Zeke. After collecting all the AI boards I would host missions to fight Zeke so I could watch soldier after soldier fall.
I did that once on the PS3 version of the game. While it was a bit hard to do since it has only a few players at any given moment, most players didn't have too much trouble with a maxed out Zeke, though some did die repeatedly.
13:23 "With your expertise, you manage to keep the reinforcement from reaching the prison section. You also left Snake a new set of weapons & fatigues just outside the building." I can't believe I had to watch this twice before catching that.
This game has quite a few neat details, including canonizing the fact that Big Boss both still believes in Santa and doesn't know what gay people are. Also those Monster hunter missions are actually the entire reason for the plot of the Monster Hunter movie to be what it is.
They actually call it out in the meeting cutscene. If you play the game you’ll see that they went along with it anyway because 1. The deal included an expandable offshore HQ for them to build with and 2. The Boss being alive thing
I think the guy with the name Hot Coldman just threw them off by being the one with the weird, suspicious name. Galvez and Paz should have went with their own cool cover names like Wet Dryman or Rich Poorman. Tree Leafman, perhaps, with his little sprout, Grass Greenery. Boss and everyone at MSF would have got their wires crossed dealing with three absurd names and possibly even just packed their bags to leave immediately. Just imagine a scenario that sees two individuals show up to talk to Big Boss. "Well, well, well, if it isn't the one known as Big Boss who (proceeds to regurgitate all of Big Boss' exploits up to that point). Allow me to introduce myself. I'm Fence Postman, and this here is my protege Candy Barman." Our Naked Snakeman won't be able to listen to anything else these shitheads have to say because he jumped in a box and is already halfway back to his home.
I love peace walker, the weird missions (like the banana only missions and the ghost photo missions), vehicle captures, and the box dates was really fun. I remember grinding for the best soldiers, tanks and helicopters when I had free time in uni, peace walker had the best selection of non-lethal weapon I've seen. edit: I absolutely love the songs in the game, even Paz's jpop theme.
The controls are rough as hell due to it being a PSP game but I love this game so much. It has a lot more "silly" content than the other games in the series but I feel like it juggles that and the serious stuff pretty well. Also I know it might be a hot take but I love the mission based gameplay (and apparently so did Kojima since MGS5 had it too) and how it lets you run through missions numerous times with different approaches or weapons. Even though it probably won't receive any changes on the Master Collection if/when it comes out, I can't help but hope they adapt the controls to be a little more like a... well like a game made for a non-portable console so other people can appreciate the game as much as I do. Plus, I mean come on, co-op MGS. That shit is so much fun.
As a British person I can confirm the constant overcast weather is due to our entire country being contained in the back of a truck with a literal metal gear and Hideo Kojima.
The villains reasoning in this is completely backwards. An AI is more likely to not retaliate under the logic that it would achieve nothing. Dumb, emotional humans 100% would nuke each other into extinction.
It’s really not considering that this game takes place in a world where Volgin nuked his own country without nuclear retaliation, and the game is set shortly after the Cuban Missile Crisis. We’ve come very close to nuclear exchange multiple times during that period but the reasons why we didn’t came down to very slimmest of margins. And the plans of multiple parties in PW are more elaborations on their ideology than it making logical sense. It’s what made the Boss AI’s response so touching at the end, as a rejection of deterrence in favor of disarmament.

I'm a little sad you didn't mention that one of the trucks has plushies of Master Otenko from Kojima's GBA series Boktai: The Sun is in Your Hand, which not only features an amnesiac Solid Snake in two games, but also has its signature weapon appear as an unlockable bonus in MGS4.
I’m so happy you brought back the “old” style of video like the KH vids you made for your brother, feels so cozy. Never stop AxelKin- I mean, DreamDropBoyfriend- I mean, wait what was your bogus scree name in this one?
The plothole with dropping the nuke into the Caribbean is that the North Atlantic Drift exists. It's a wind current that blows from Central America, the Caribbean and parts of the US towards Europe, notably Spain, Portugal and the UK. This is a problem because nuclear fallout is carried by the wind and takes a long time to go away. So Coldman's nuke would've caused a massive international incident that would have killed any credibility his project had.
I know you said it was a story video and not a gameplay one but I'm surprised you never mentioned the Assassin's Creed shoutout since it came up in the AC Brotherhood video.
If any MGS game deserves a Demon’s Souls-esque remake it’s Peace Walker. I’ve always thought it would be the best in the series (or close at least) if its cinematic presentation was on par with the rest of the series.
Just some friendly advice, but imo your video thumbnail could be a bit more… alluring? I think some lettering helps attract the viewer. “MGS: Peace Decrease” at the top. Idk, just saying.
A year old, but... Pupa, Chrysalis, Cocoon, and Peace Walker *Are NOT* Metal Gear platforms. Pupa, Chrysalis, and Cocoon moreso as they are simply unmanned weapons without the ability to fire any kind of Nuclear Weapon. Like the Shagohod, Peace Walker is a precursor to the Metal Gear project, with Peace Walker partially being the closest to a Metal Gear. But they they do not have the Metal Gear designation. Especially since they were all primarily A.I. controlled while the intention of Metal Gear is to be piloted by a human. ZEKE was modified by Pacifica Ocean to accomodate a pilot, Sahelathropus was piloted by Tretij Rebenok (Codename: Psycho Mantis), TX-55, Gustav, and MG-D were in Big Boss' hands, REX was in Liquid Snake's control, with RAY belonging to Ocelot. Likely because indeed, the Peace Walker project showed that in the end, a Human was capable of pulling the Nuclear Trigger in a worst-case scenario. Likewise, one of the biggest strengths of the typical Metal Gear platform is the fact it's Bipedal-exclusive. ZEKE, Sahelanthropus, TX-55, Gustav, Metal Gear-D, REX and RAY all stand on 2 legs while acting as some kind of Nuclear Powerhouse (For ZEKE to REX, its ability to mobilize and strike with a nuclear weapon quickly in any terrain; RAY being an Anti-Metal Gear meant to be able to attack from both Water and Land as its deployment method, and being an eventual A.I. weapon means it can counter manned Metal Gears REX-like derivatives that sprouted after Shadow Moses.)
I believe Kojima said once that PO wasn't *entirely* canon. Likely meaning that anything that would fill in the gap between 3 and PW is canon, while anything else isn't. So basically, only the bare essentials.
Gameplay wise, i find PW so mediocre. Choosing missions from a menu sucks compared to the approach of older games, where you had your main, non-interrupted playthrough, always in the field and following a very clear goal.
peace walker was alright but i absolutly HATE how much it shaped mgs5 idk why they thought it would be a good idea. mgs5 would have been so much better if they made it more like mgs4 but with larger sand boxes then they could add side content as missions to reuse and shake up areas kind of like the new hitman trilogy
The worst part is that they made mgs5 a worse version of peacewalker. The best parts of pw are simplified and trivialized. Upgrades feel different, almost no bosses, no interiors, everything involving recruits is automated so it really doesn’t matter, snake isn’t really a part of the story and never talks. Mgs5 undeniably is the best playing metal gear game, but it manages to disappoint in almost every area beyond that.
@@maninblack3410 True, I don't remember when it dawned on me that MGS5 was just PW again (probably whenever Kaz named the new base of operations Mother Base again) but at first I was excited... then I kept playing and I was like "this gameplay is spectacular but are the only bosses I'm ever gonna see Skulls?" And I get why there can't be to an extent, you can't have an open world and just have giant robots (or any of MGS's usual collection of freaky bosses) lurking around... but like, they could have locked them behind select missions like the Sahelanthropus fight. It's just so much more joyless than PW, and I know that's kind of on purpose given the story they were telling, but still.
@@TwoPairSA but even in peace Walker they treated vehicle fights like boss fights, it didn’t have to be giant mechs. All throughout the series regular dudes have been boss fights so we could’ve had commanders and generals and specific pilots/tank drivers be bosses. Instead all the vehicles and enemy soldiers are the exact same functionally as every other vehicle and soldier. They put some background info on some specific soldiers, but that’s just flavor text because when you shoot them they do the exact same thing as every other soldier. The real reason is probably the conflict between Konami and Kojima… and as much as we all should rightfully hate Konami, let’s be real, Kojima *did* waste money on stuff that didn’t make the game better.

You are a terrible person, sending Zeke out to slaughter any potential recruits. What is wrong with you?! 😢😨
I did that once on the PS3 version of the game. While it was a bit hard to do since it has only a few players at any given moment, most players didn't have too much trouble with a maxed out Zeke, though some did die repeatedly.
