- Paz Ortega Andrade is one of the more interesting characters introduced towards the end of the Metal Gear Series. Someone who would go on to influence not only Big Boss but quite a few other characters as well. She was also wrapped in a number different visual themes throughout her time as a character and even though she only appears in two games, I think she might be one of my favorites from the whole series.

Ortega is not a middle name. It is the patronymic (father’s family name, used as primary family name), and Andrade is the mattonymic (mother’s family name, often omitted in everyday use).
Correct, latino countries, and definitely us Costa Ricans, use both last names, I'm very accustomed to just giving out my father's family name as my mom is American (and by extension so am I), so most Costa Ricans will either stare until I remember to give out my mother's, or they'll flat out ask for my "full name, please".

The tape is actually the sole reason why Zero is bound to that wheelchair, it has nothing to do with old age.
@@thomasway0320 or the virus/poison/toxin/disease/archaea he was infected with by Skull Face. He was still dying, but this tape put him in the wheelchair specifically. If it were missing he’d be walking
God Ground Zeroes hurt so much. Especially when we see what happened to Paz...
I wasn’t the hugest fan of the phantom pain’s story but ground zeroes has such a perfect one with the catalyst that makes big boss become as terrible as we see him later on.

@@gogetaluvMSF/Outer Haven was destroyed, all of Big Boss’s men were killed or abandoned, Kaz lost an arm and a leg, Paz and Chico died, “Snake” was put into a coma for 9 years and lost his arm. Pretty much everything Big Boss and Kaz worked for in Peace Walker were ripped from them.
The day you make the hour long Big Boss video is the day we see new life.

Do we ever know what happened to the other Paz Ortega’s? 8:24 “in the next room taking it easy” is extraordinarily haunting, and if they failed I don’t really see the point in imprisonment, or anything else. Or even why they’d be in the room next door.

Man, the Big Boss saga is so fucking tragic...
I see a lot of similarities between the Metal Great saga and the Star Wars saga as a whole. Both of them have a "prequel trilogy" and the prequel trilogy is specially far more tragic than the first one, and they are tematically similar. If you think of it, The Phantom Menace is like MGS3 because is the origin of everything, Peace Walker is like Attack Of The Clones with its light-downed tone and The Phantom Pain is like Revenge of The Sith because it is the most tragic and serious of all the games throughout the Big Boss saga...

Bro nothing is more heartbreaking when (light spoilers) in mgsv when you complete all of Pazs side quests and get all the photos, and you relive her saying there was another bomb, then venom reaches out and screams “no”. And of course the tapes.
Ohh I was hoping Meti would finally cover this character, after everything going on in this series I have to say Paz is one of my favorite characters in the series

The spirit battle is literally a reference to her Peace Walker fight because the spirit does one of the moves that Metal Gear Zeke does which is why they use her Peace Walker design and not the either one of her other designs and people are going to make a joke because it's right there in the open and they don't understand that the name is the name of one one of Metal Gear Zeke's attacks
After this, i think i take it back, Huey did two good things. Make Hal and killing Skullface.
The downside is that his parenting was probably terrible and contributed to a lot of Otacon's issues, and him killing Skull Face took away the satisfaction from Venom and Kaz.

I have waited SO LONG for this moment. Paz is one of the most misunderstood characters in the Metal Gear franchise, and her end is the simple cruelest thing a person can go through.
i find my self sometimes thinking about the tapes. and what she went through, along with chico. it makes me sad and sick. i remember listening to it on youtube (cause i had never heard of it before, and it sounded crazy. like why would this tape be in the game, its cruel but this must be fan made) and almost getting sick. never had a reaction like that before. i felt bad for the fact i disliked paz, and then learning what happend to her truly hurt & disturbed me. i know people say that raiden & big boss are the most tragic in the series, but paz went through something you wouldn't wish on satan himself.

So was Paz killed by the second bomb? Or was she killed by an RPG? Another Meti video said she survived, but I always thought her later appearance was supposed to be a hallucination.
She was a hallucination in THE PHANTOM PAIN. Paz died due to the second c-4 place inside her. Sadly, the bone fragments and teeth Venom Snake has inside his body are her remains. He took the full brunt of the explosion when she detonated outside the helicopter carrying Big Boss, Kaz, Chico, and the Medic.
Yeah I saw that video to but in that video he also went on to explain that it was just a hallucination that venom snake conjured because he's on that copium
In the "hallucination timeline" an RPG is what took down Big Boss's chopper rather than Paz's bomb.

We know from her tapes what she had to endure. That Zero made her suffer. Broke her in that room. And then sent her on the Peace Walker Mission. That Bastard. His death was too good for him.

Well, looks like I'm not the only one who realizes just how much of an existential nightmare, that Mutally Assured Destruction really is.
It's not so much a peace-keeping measurement, as it is more so forcing the entire world to play the most dangerous game of Russian Roulette. Only the live round in this case is someone insane enough to push the big, red button.

The second bomb being extracted and the RPG fire is just another reality distortion in Venom's mind in order to deal with the fact that he failed to save her that day. It never really happened.

Paz’s storyline is some of the best stuff from PW and V. I just wish Kojima hadn’t given in to so much fanservice with her in PW. She was almost a perfect commentary on typical moe-blob anime bullshit on top of the other themes of defiling peace.
But even still, she was a great character. “Say Peace” still sticks with me to this day.
