    It's always fantastic to talk to one of the most influential guitar players of the '90s, Mr Graham Coxon! With Blur, Graham helped launch Brit Pop! His amazingly creative guitar parts and incredible use of guitar pedals set the tone and became the standard for us all! Thomas Gray is a wonderful guitar maker, making some of the most beautiful guitars I've ever played! He grew up with a Rock Royalty Father, the incredible Nigel Gray, Producer of the first 3 Police albums! What a legacy!

    Love the bit about the Coffee & TV solo. The story reminded me of XTC's Complicated Game from Drums & Wires. Andy Partridge played that solo without listening to the backing track, just "Go!" then "Stop!" He only did the one take, and he knew he had it right because he saw Dave Gregory laughing his arse off through the control room window. The music of chance.

    Wonderful video! Graham Coxon is a guitar god. His dexterity and range from his metal squalls on "Bugman" to jangles/chord progressions on MLIR and more just make him so unique. Your interplay in this interview is wonderful. Glad to see you're engaging on on all fronts! Keep up the great work.

    Living in Europe in the 90's it was impossible not to get drawn into the blur oasis controversy. For me it was blur. I only knew the music. Couple years ago ran into a documentary about the Blur reunion for Glastonbury where I could really dig into each one of the band members. I then realized how distinctive each one of those guys are. Each one is a really unique character. That's what makes Blur one of the greatest bands of all time! It was clear though from that doc that Graham was the mad scientist. So happy to see this great interview.

    came over as a fan of graham/blur, but also as a person who has recently returned to playing guitar after a good chunk of my (so far short) life. though a lot of the jargon is lost on me, this conversation between all of you has been fascinating and enlightening at the very least. i've seen thomas and graham's gray guitar videos together, so thanks for kind of expanding further on their sessions in your own way!

    Hi Warren. Only just discovered this video. Really enjoyable. Three great guys. Being from a slightly older generation (yes, I remember the Beatles' first airing live on Ed Sullivan) I only stumbled onto Graham Coxon a few weeks ago via That Pedal Show with Dan and Mick. Truly lovely guy. Humble, inquisitive, essentially creative. As we say in the U.S., very unpretentious and down to earth. So now I have Blur (special edition) and his acoustic album. Both superb. I get it. Also, I join you in the wonderful Spitfire obsession, perhaps due to heritage. My father was first born in U.S. From my Grandfather on back, it was all Londoners. So many models as a child and even a Cox gas powered one, a beast with about a 3 1/2 foot wingspan you controlled via a handle and small cables while standing in the middle as it circled round and round, only controlling climb and dive. Childhood dream of laying eyes on one was realized 10 years ago at the Smithsonian. But one of life's miracles was witnessed last summer on a trip to Duxford, all arranged by my incredible wife, specifically to see and hear them in the air. No words can possibly describe the thrill. At one point there were 18 Spitfires, seven Hurricanes and a B-17 in the air all at once. Incomparable thrill. By the way, your piston is really a valve. It let exhaust gasses out of the chamber. Pistons are much larger. Back to music, because of education from That Pedal Show, I now have a Morgan AC20 Deluxe Amp (incredible AC30 tone but watts variable from 1/4 watt to 20 watts: Brilliant!) and a Hudson Electronics Broadcast on the board. Hard to find in the U.S. but it's worth the effort. Small wonder Graham and Thomas enjoy them. Thank you for all your efforts. If you ever feel like home cooking in Northern California, hit me up. Cheers, mate.

    So much brilliance! I don't know where to start describing the revelations in this video. Of course, when you start talking innovative guitar design I'm all in. That Tele with P90s is like a guitar that I would have made myself. And coil trim rather than coil cut should have been obvious, but it never occurred to me.

    This is a pretty big video for me. I've been a huge Blur fan forever. Modern Life Is Rubbish was the first album I bought from them. I love all their albums. 13 is one of the greatest albums for me. The whole interview speaks my language. Wire are gods. XTC are amazing. "Thank Christ For The Bomb" is one of the greatest songs in history. The Left Banke were amazing. Micheal Brown is one of most underrated songwriters in history and "Walk Away Renee" and "Pretty Ballerina" should be required listening. I could go on for way too long, if I haven't already. Pink Fairies were amazing. Loved everything about this interview.

    Never imagine Richie Kotzen would mentioned in conversation with Graham Coxon! The other guitar player guy is 5 yrs older than me and his taste is almost perfectly fit with mine. From Nirvana, Blur, Radiohead, Soundgarden, QOTSA, Richie Kotzen, Greg Howe, John Coltrane, etc.. Man, this is great chat! Graham Coxon is my all time guitar hero too, whatever he play even random are always inspiring! I kinda have dream though what it would be if Graham Coxon collaborate with Guthrie Govan or Greg Howe, Graham write the song / main riffs and melody, and the shredder will jamming crazy fusion in solo section, that would be awesome!

    My 17 year old son asked me who my favorite guitarist is and I said Graham. He asked "Not Greenwood?" And I said I loved Greenwood, but to me Graham's playing and riffs spoke to me way earlier than Johnny's did. I wasn't a fan of Creep but I was a fan of Leisure and Modern Life is my favorite Blur record. Graham is just different. But I love Johnny Greenwood to no end, but it's Graham to me.

    Had a bit of a giggle at the end (twisted humour), when he says hes not into buying mega expensive gear. Must be why Grays "gifted" him a 3 grand guitar. Lol

    Another fab guest interview, I loved this one. Interesting the bit about obsessing over drum track tightness and quantizing with today's music (I'm guilty as well) because of creating midi Ezdrummer backing before I lay guitars and bass down, but then you mention Numan and his band played synths live along to live drums creating that extra dynamic. You can actually hear the time slips in the drumming on Are 'Friends' Electric, I've always noticed that for years with that song. Is there a happy medium? We're never happy :)

    i can totally identify when he says that the gear world can be a tricky one to navigate and that for a beginner it is really hard to find out what to use.
    I am thinking about buying some outboard gear (call me old-fashioned, but i love having real knobs and buttons and lights ;) ) and if you go to the websites of the manufacturer's they always say that they make the best products in the world.
    "Nice" to see that a musician with so much experience also goes through the same...

    the most important thing to realise while making music as single person is that your layers need to be countering not supporting. and they are almost never together on a grid. it's the combination of all of them working together that makes a groove. great video. love graham!

    of topic but this is a question for mainly Ableton but also other DAWs and what not. ive come across a problem with bass over kill more so mud. In Ableton the bass is fine but once i put it on my phone the bass is too much and out wieghts the rest of the tracks. Now at first i thought maybe it was ear fatigue but now im thinking is it my noise floor?? i read that Ableton cant "clip" so am i getting some sort of clipping in my sub and Ableton isnt giving me a true "sound"?? im abit stuck and no i dont use any visual guides cos im stubbon and want to train my ears first before getting nitty gritty

    • @matthewtoomer2181
      @matthewtoomer2181 7 років тому

      Despite the crapware, there are several truly useful configuration tools. For starters, there’s the THX control panel, which helps optimize your setup. With this panel, you can not only set individual levels but alter delay times as well, and even reconfigure the projection angles of each channel. Creative’s mixer remains unchanged for the most part, but they did add one feature we’ve been nagging them about: dB-accurate faders. Why would you want those? If you know exactly where 0dB is on your inputs and outputs, you can achieve “unity gain,” meaning the sound card is neither boosting nor attenuating incoming and outgoing signals.
      Above is what i found about my soundcard developers. Is it possible asio driver is over riding my card driver during ableton playback??

    • @Producelikeapro
      @Producelikeapro  7 років тому

      Hi Matthew, great question! You might have better luck asking it on one of the Ableton Videos? Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren

    • @matthewtoomer2181
      @matthewtoomer2181 7 років тому +1

      Produce Like A Pro i think ive got to the bottom of it, is my i/o options. soundcard has nothing to do with abletons summing. Been advised to turn monitoring off while resampling as ableton will play the input and output at the same, causing latency and delays.

Exciting as its my first Ableton project that i started and its 10:30. haha i wanted to see how long i could make a song last without it getting boring.
