Whenever I visit my 8 year old grandson we have a "grandma moment " in which I share an aspect of The Faith This last time, he shared with me about Judas, and how Jesus said that it would have been better had he (Judas) never been born. This made quite an impression on him and we spoke of the 4 last things. The thought of eternity just amazes him. We don't need to "dumb down" The Faith for these little ones.
Isaiah 53: 10 Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. Rev 13: 8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. Judas was the Son of Perdition, part of God's plan to redeem mankind through the sacrifice of HIs Sinless Son.
Wonderfully explained. I will never be a modernist!! I love the True Catholic Faith and refuse anything, but the gorgeous Tridentine Mass. I am so thankful for the SSPX. I pray daily for those who don’t understand what Catholicism really is.
Hi, are you? Oooh! Is the holy relic with you in the UK or in another place? We are in England. We are members of the SSPX in UK and God took us to the Society from the Protestant then the Anglo Catholic Church of England. Praise God! Hallelujah!
I would like to share something of my experience here. I am a priest who was ordained in 2002 for the "Novus Ordo" Church. I had orthodox professors in the seminary and everything Fr. Robinson is teaching, I was taught. I was never taught in any modernist sense regarding for example faith and sacraments. The frustration however is that most of us are overwhelming aware that our congregations have bought into a modernist sense of things. One of the things that neither the Church nor the SSPX point out however is really how very bad even outside of the Church, certain sociological factors (perhaps even diabolic) changed peoples' view toward authority and philosophy. The Vietnam war for example was one of the first times that people really thought for the first time "an authority has told me something that is wrong," and therefore, also projected this on the faith. The sexual revolution was a disaster that let licentiousness and irrational thinking out of a Pandora like box. I guess what I am trying to say is that I have never seen these addressed. In other words, the world changed and the faith did not but people did not have the tools to not allow the world to overcome them. I enjoy listening to Fr. Robinson and his sincerity and his faith. It is frightening and scary to look at the current situation in the Church and society but we must never lose hope but place our eyes and hearts on Christ crucified and place our lives in the hands our Blessed Mother, Stella Maris, to guide us through the storms of this world.
I agree, Father! The world is such a cesspool and is so polluted that most people absorb countless errors just by osmosis. We also live in such debauched times that I really don’t think getting married and having kids is even the norm or given for young people anymore. Many expressly do not want any children. Many more don’t have a family as an intentional act but as an eventuality of shacking up that they just live through. It’s really astonishing to truly consider just how far we’ve fallen.
You could stand and be a bastion of orthodoxy (like some Fathers) or you COULD investigate the options open to you should you ever reach a point wherein you feel the NO is no longer for you. Blessings to you either way dear Father. Velox Versutus Vigilans
I’m really loving this series. Being born and raised in the NO church I saw/see the changes. It’s interesting to me now as an adult and parent that tries to be consistent that I only recently realized how my surroundings didn’t match up with the unchanged unchangable truths of God. Thank you for all you do here! Pray that I get up the courage to drive 30 minutes to my closest TLM soon.
I drive an hour and know people that drive 8 hours. They basically make a road trip out of mass every Sunday. You should be blessed to have an SSPX chapel as close to you as you do. I hope you make it.
I note that Fr Robinson uses ‘feelings’ and ‘believe’ interchangeably throughout when trying to describe the difference between Modernists and Traditionalists, which I genuinely find peace and hope in. Glory be to God for all things 🙏.
The each of us have our own journey is another modernist lie. There is one narrow way and the saints have pointed out the way for centuries. It is just too easy to get lost in the wilderness without the correct map. Christ said follow me, he did not say "If you feel like it's your truth then go towards the path you are drawn to and live your best life".
Very helpful. It occurs to me that many traditionalists today, new to tradition, are actually modernists. They like tradition for the experience. These podcasts from the SSPX are helping all of us intellectually understand the crisis today. Very grateful. Thank you!
Beautiful! Deo gratias! Thank you! This not only helps to understand the crisis in the world and the Church, but also in our own individual spiritual lives. As Archbishop Lefebvre said, at one point he realized he himself had liberal ideas that he had to root out! In today’s world we can see that constant need for change (social media, phones, adrenaline rushes etc.) is the result of trying to fill a space in our hearts that craves the growth of the spiritual life which is the love of God.
I would like to point out that the Catholic Faith isn’t just an exercise in believing the correct external dogmas. For 2k yrs the Apostles, saints, and laymen have actually experienced the Blessed Trinity work directly upon their senses. “For the Kingdom of God is not in speech but in power” 1 Cor 4:20. I don’t pray the Rosary just b/c it’s the traditional thing to do or b/c there are many encyclicals about it. I pray it b/c our Lady came to the saints experientially and asked us to do it-And there is a very real power of the Rosary. It (By the power and merits of Jesus Christ) has actually changed my life. If we present the Faith as the Catechism of St Pius X ( which I have and love) as contained in a book, we’ve lost. That’s Protestantism-Bible worship. Catholic truth touches the whole man. The Blessed Trinity is active in the hearts, minds, and bodies in a very real interior way in Catholics. We can’t forget this. And in my experience the majority of Catholics are not full on Modernists. They are mixed. The N.O. dancing girl liturgy isn’t happening everywhere.
I had such a strong example of this last Sunday at an NO mass: the priest was inferring that because life is always changing so must the Church. But I say that life is always changing but supernatural Life in Christ never changes. The mission of the church is supernatural life, not natural life.
100% there is. It’s Very, Very subjectively based with everything being about emotional experiences. And I’ve run into a few people with what they think is the gift of tongues, but it’s the fakest thing ever. But they’re genuinely convinced it’s legit and are overall quite pious. My hunch is that 95% of it is bogus and is just the devil’s way of deceiving pious people who might not be otherwise swayed by other more typical temptations.
I am a daily mass practicing Catholic I receive the Eucharist on the tongue kneeling down once I was told to stand? I was asked by the priest was I upset with him for telling me to stand..I said no I know that we all answer to God and I thought I will pray forThe Priest.....rosaries.. Love the Sacraments. I asked in confession and said that I was sorry for going to illegitimate masses if that was true. I was call fanatic. My priest said I was strict in my faith. I'm praying for guidance 🙏
Such a clear explanation. Thank you Father. You pulled away the veils which helps a Catholic these days to know how to remain faithful to Christ and His Church. I would never attend a Church that accepts women as Priests - it's not what Christ established.
This podcast needs to take into account the philosophical distinction between substance and accident, as well as how philosophical anthropology influences our thinking and acting.
We want our Traditional Catholic Church back..my diocese doesn't have a Latin Mass and are not likely to have one..we are at a loss as to what to do..I've expressed my thought on this matter.. I'm a octogenarian and Can't travel.
It would be more effective to give talk with illustrations university lecture style where the points are hit on one after the other rather than the "talking heads" interview format. The message is important and could have been less verbose.
I really enjoy this series and this question comes from someone who is not a sedevacantist but just a sincere question and good faith how is it that this statements that a modernist Catholic is not a Catholic it's not also apply to the Pope or to a bishop or to a priest or maybe it's not being much in that way just some clarification
Many reasons, top down - Freud, Jung, Kant, Marx, etc. Postmodernism is one of the main culprits. Freud and his ideas of repression being the greatest evil, no concept of sin. They see themselves as freeing man from the shackles of the past. All they have done is shackle us to the devil and create massive amounts of anxiety because objective truth has fallen away.
That's not what it means, exactly. If they are really modernists, they are not Catholic in mind, for sure, and probably not in heart. But that is a different thing from saying they are "not Catholic" simply, i.e. have ceased to be members of the Catholic Church.
Since modernism is truly an entirely different religion, how is it possible that those who publicly adhere to this false religion would remain members of the Catholic Church? Since unity of cult is guaranteed intrinsic to one of the 4 Mark's of the Church (Unity,) the Church cannot contain two religions: Catholicism, and Modernism (Novus Ordo.) Can Fr please explain how the existence of two religions within the true Church is possible, according to traditional doctrine? God bless you!
I think parts of the Church and in London England I would say the majority of the Church has a traditional understanding of the sacraments and Father's description of the modern Church does not ring true. I suppose the fact that this is tolerated elsewhere probably particularly in North America is disturbing. However, I do not believe that today's Catholicism is immersed in modernism in the way described. I would say that today’s Catholicism, tolerates Modernism and parts of the Church are immersed in Modernism,
Once the water hits your little (or large in the case of adult converts) head and the correct formula has been said you are christian. Further initiation into Holy Mother Church through the grace of confirmation and communion makes you catholic. Failed catechisis and rejection of church teachings is a major issue but there is no need to make strange claims like "not catholic". We need to return to proper catechisis and obedience, which is first encountered in the family. The American church strove towards Americanization from the beginning bringing us to where we are today. We live in a time when Catholic families are using birth control stifling the faith from its core of bringing Christian souls into the world. When will anyone, let alone clergy, bring this dark issue to light and free us from this American culture of death?

I go to SSPX and Novus ordo, I study my faith. I've no doubt Archbishop Lefebvre was a saint. But you show yourselves up by saying modern Church believes X or Y when that is NOT the case.
