Subbed for Tool. I'm not religious but a Tool show is the closest thing I can get to a religious experience. I schedule my vacations around their tour dates. I highly recommend seeing them live. It's a whole new experience. They're touring the US in early 2022. Really enjoying your journey
Hell yeah, had tickets to one of the shows they cancelled but they're coming to the same spot I had tickets for and I got tickets again! Let's hope it actually happens this time! Lol
Saw tool 3 times between '09-'19. Fcking awesome live show. Make yourself a little treat for right before you walk in the venue: 1 sugar cookie (or your choice of treat), 1 Tbsp peanut butter, 2.5grams p. cubensis mushrooms ground/sliced to small pieces. Mix ground mushrooms and peanut butter, spread across cookie. Yummy yummy 👀🍄🔮🌈🌟🌌 alternatively you could just eat those weird little bits of paper that make you feel silly and happy🤏◽👅. You might know someone with a sheet of those if you look around
This is exactly how I describe a Tool show. It is absolutely a spiritual experience, and I can definitely see why they have you put your phones down, and delve deep into the music.
Did I get first comment? Anyway so glad you are listening to Pneuma, next you should do the live version and watch the drum cam video. But this is my favorite song off of the Fear Inoculum album. It's literally the ring tone on my phone currently. Edit (after watching video): Thank you for being vulnerable in your reaction, not something you see from most reactors. But you have now experienced what we as a TOOL army waited 13 LONG YEARS for. Keep up the great reactions man.
Probably not the first and certainly not the last to suggest this but you really should watch the Danny Carey drum cam live version of this song now. You think you are amazed with this, wait til you watch him work. Old Tool suggestions: Undertow, Flood, Push It (studio then Salival live version). I've seen them twice. 97 during the Aenima tour and then in 2002 for the Lateralus tour. Amazing of course. I can die happy knowing I saw them perform Lateralus live.
I saw the 2002 tour as well, and they played the Disposition/Reflection/Triad set. Mike Patton and some of the other Tomahawk guys came out and were wailing on the drums during Triad. So good. Also, props for suggesting Flood. That could be my favorite song ever. They played that at the 2002 as well.
Bro, you GOTTA watch the drum cam video now, his live performance is even better than this album version. One of the best drum preformances of all time, hands down I have tickets to see em live in January, first time in over 10 years, and I'm going to cry, a lot. Tool live is an experience that is completely unmatched by anything I've ever witnessed in my life
@@BunniMonster I really have several favorites from Perfect Circle..."The Noose", "The Outsider" and "Weak and Powerless" is one of my absolute favorites.🌹
Love watching your journey with this band! I've seen them live three times and about to see them a fourth time in March...they are phenomenal! When people say that you don't listen to Tool, you experience them...they're not lying. Not only is it sonically pleasing but they also put a lot into the visuals to give a whole other dimension and depth to their art. Every thing they do in their live shows are done with purpose. He'll, even where the band stands on the stage together is done specifically so that not one member is perceived to be above the others. If you get the chance to see them, go...you won't be disappointed!
My wife and kids accompanied me to the Melbourne show in 2020. My wife doesn't remember much of it because she said the opening song (Fear Inoculum) put her in a trance until the lights came on. 😃 My kids first concert ever too, the best band they will ever see. Spectacular show.
I’ve seen Tool more times then I can count and they have changed the way I listen to music! The music sends me to another place and has helped me through some serious times in my life! There are so many song to suggest but I think for myself and many others we would love to see you listen to them all!!! Watching someone discover Tool for the first time gives old Tool Army fans joy and we get to relive that first again through you! ❤️
I have seen Tool live 9 times over the years; it is an indescribable experience. I had the honor of seeing them perform in an acoustic amphitheater once. That was the greatest live performance I've ever been too and probably ever will again in my life. It is not just an audio fest in your ears (they're pretty much studio record clear live), Tool also has amazing visual stimuli as well.
Im surprised you didn't watch the Danny drum cam live version of this song, but I'm trusting you will go back and check that out. Found your channel because of your Parabol/Parabola reaction and I've watched all your subsequent Tool reactions. I know you have plenty of people giving you advice about what to listen to so I will sit back and enjoy the journey with you. ❤🌀
^^ exactly this ^^ Found Sebs because of TOOL reactions. Luckily (for me) the TOOL Journey playlist is now 51 videos long. What an amazing journey indeed. @Sebs Duran It’s so crazy/amazing to hear your analysis of these songs that have been so extremely life-changing for myself. You are definitely far better educated and well-versed in many theories and concepts than I ever was until much later in my ride along the spiral and deep deep into the proverbial rabbit hole. Kudos to you for “getting” their music, exploring your interpretation of their art, and recognizing their musical genius so quickly. I’m a 30-year TOOL “fan” (I’m not yet worthy of TOOL ARMY status) and yet still picking up new things that I had previously missed from their catalog. ❤️🌀😵💫
Tool is definitely a band that deserves multiple listens. I've been a fan since 1996 and I'm still peeling back the layers. It's simply amazing that a four piece can have such a musical, spiritual, and emotional impact. They continue to entrench themselves deeper into the spot of greatest of all time for me. Great reaction! Btw, Tool live is AMAZING!
Love watching you experience this and reflect in your original and unique way dude 🌀 This album took me a bit of re-listening to finally help me transition into it truly becoming my most listened to music. They are deep👣 musicians ...but it's not, but it is, but it not, you know? You ARE on the wavelength
Seriously think their song H. would resonate with you. I believe you said previously that you are a new parent. Maynard, although remaining very cryptic, has alluded to the song being about his son. It can be interpreted in many ways but I believe it is his struggle and acceptance with becoming a father
@@mikekokoski5881 The best I’ve come up with is that it stands for the “H” in “Jesus H Christ” when used as an expression of something being stressful. “My blood before me begs me, open up my heart again.”
@@IocaIhost could be it's a very deep song, but even that line leads me to think drugs.....you're blood begging you for it to medicate your anxiety. There's a lot that makes me think that way "I have died, I will die, I don't mind"
@@mikekokoski5881 man there’s so many ways to interpret the song… here’s another one.. “the snake behind me hisses what my damage could have been” (family member molesting him and telling him how much worse it could be) “my blood before me begs me open up my heart again” (another family member begging to give the molester another chance).
TOOL live is not just live music. As much as their music is an audio experience, the visuals they provide with their perfectly played music at a concert are a visual experience. It is an experience every fan should have.
I've only seen Tool live once...on their Lateralus tour. A friend purchased the tickets very late and said they were nosebleed seats. I didn't expect much, but it turned out we were almost DIRECTLY ON TOP of Danny Carey's drum kit (sure, we were very high up, but we had an amazing view of the stage and the drums). Turned out to be the best bad seats I've ever had. :)
The absolute joy on your face makes me so happy! I'm an OG tool fan from the very beginning. Have seen them 20 something times, will be seeing them for 2 shows in Detroit in March, blah, blah, blah... I am envious of that "first listen" experience, it's beautiful to see. Your reactions are genuine and emotional. I love it! I hope you get to see them live someday, it's life changing. Spiral out, keep going 🌀❤
Maynard's dedication to his Mom is good too. I think the real thing is 3 pieces. Tool- Jimmy, APC- Judith, Tool- Wings for Marie 1&2. Maynard's Mother spent over 10,000 days confined to a wheel-chair paralyzed. Do the Wings chapter w/ the fan made vid w/ the tree thumbnail. Best one out there. (Tears!)
I was in the nosebleed section for their Lateraulus show, and it was still the best concert experience I've ever had. They sound even better live than in studio, which is not something you can say of most bands.
You are ready for Wings of Marie 1&2. Because of your religious perspective, it will hit especially hard. Maynard's mom (judith marine) had a debilitating stroke and suffered for 27 years (about 10,000 days, per the album name) She was profoundly religious and was part of a church that Maynard found repugnant and filled with hypocrites. During her life, Maynard blamed god for her suffering but, she never did and clutched her faith through the end. Maynard had to come to terms with how powerful she and her belief were and get over his own 'Grudge' against god. It is an epic masterpiece that is both uplifting and devastating in its honesty. They must be listened to together. I don't mind your in song stops but I think you will find it sacrilegious once you get into it. If you have ever lost someone close, keep some kleenex handy.
Waiting to see that day when his reaction to those songs pop up on my feed. Getting the back story first and listening to his songs about his displeasure with her religious community and hearing how he comes out the other side is such a gut punch.
"If you've watched Tool live, what was that like?" Well, one of my best friends of 15+ years who introduced me to the band. I was able to buy him tickets to the San Antonio concerts in October 2019. I had never seen my friend cry before. They were truly amazing. My friend passed away this summer, and I miss him very much. I'm honestly SO glad I spent that money to get him a ticket, as its one of my best memories with him.
I have now seen Tool live 3 times, twice in 06 for the 10k Days tour, and then in 2019 i went with a very dear friend to the show in Boston at the Garden...WHERE Bird once played! Anyway, each and every time I get to see them its a life changing moment, and each time is somehow better than the last. I will re-iterate my previous comment. GO SEE EM!! haha You will love it man.
Tool are on tour soon. If they are playing a show anywhere near you I'd highly recommend trying to go. It is definitely an experience that IMHO no other band can come close to. The live experience cannot be showcased by any amount of recording. I myself am looking forward to seeing them next year.
The only way I can describe seeing Tool in concert is that when you leave you don't leave saying that it was something that you did but rather something that was done to you
Definitely watch the Drum Cam version. It's a wonder to behold! Seen them twice before I was lucky enough to be at the Mar. 11th Portland show. The following show was supposed to be in Eugene but was canceled due to the pandemic. I've got tickets to the Jan. 10th Eugene show where they'll be picking up the tour where they left off. When I saw them at the Gorge Amphitheatre during the 10,000 days tour I was on the floor close to the stage. I missed the stage show being projected on the stage but I got throttled with the sub bass speakers every time Danny went at the double bass pedals. Went to the second round of the 10,000 days in Portland when Maynard had a sinus infection so they gave him a break with a setlist of song with longer instrumental parts. The played Wings for Marie part 1 and 2. That one is going break you. They are unbelievable live. NO CLICK track. ADAM JONES is Danny's Click track. Both Adam and Danny are students of the human metronome Robert Fripp of King Crimson. It's truly amazing that they can pull off such intricate songs live. Their songs are a result of Adam, Danny and Justin hashing out ideas and refining through hours of playing and listening. Maynard doesn't hear anything and start writing vocals until the songs are pretty much finished. Maynard has described it as They building the house and He does the decorating. They are touring soon. See them if you at all have the chance. Danny also plays Jazz at The Baked Potato Jazz club in L.A. with The Doug Webb Allstars. They have streams of prior shows on TBP website. Great audio with multi-cam video. They will be playing a live show Nov.18 & 19th 2021. Details at The Baked Potato site
Watching you on your journey to enlightenment is a gift. Watched a lot of UA-cam reactions to Tool and yours is pure. And when you have your collection together I highly recommend putting together a playlist of Tool and find a SDT or sensory deprivation tank and plug in. It will literally bring you to tears.
Bruh...no cap ur reactions to first hearing any tool song is borderline emotional...like when I saw u react to LATERALUS for the first time it brought me to tears cuz that was me the first time hearing that song...to me each band member i consider a (25 percenter) cuz all 4 band members equal the diamond in da rough we all love and are proud to call......TOOL.
Tool live is a spectacle to behold, I've been to three shows and each time I was blown away. As a die hard Tool fan the first time I did cry and I don't care what anyone else says haha. To see this band live is monumental and a blessing for sure
I love how they bring together 'religious' wisdom (which can be found also in secular philosophy) of one breath and one word with the scientific fact of star stuff to describe what it feels like to connect to one's spirit. And as a reactor, dude, you get it!
Was watching a random array of videos of people reacting to tool while folding laundry and came across this masterpiece. Found myself having conversations with you, esp when at the end you said “but it’s not… but it is… you know? No.” Literally had a jinx you owe me a soda moment w you thru my tv. This is the best reaction to this song I’ve seen and I’ve watched quite a few. You totally get it man. It feels so good to know that. Subbed.
After the Danny cam video you might be ready for the Maynard’s Mother collection where he takes you on painful yet sobering catharsis through his childhood trauma, to anger at his mothers beliefs, to coming to terms with her death…just powerful. My song list in order: Intermission/Jimmy - Tool Mama Sed (live version) - Puscifer Judith - Perfect Circle Jambi - Tool Wings for Marie 1&2 - Tool
Favorite Tool song is the last one I listen to. Need to listen to entire discography starting with Opiate. One of my favorites, besides the last one I listened to, is Pushit. Listen to the album then the live Salival version. Soooo Amazing!!
I've seen Tool live twice. Both times were amazing. The only other concert experience I could compare it to that I've seen personally is Pink Floyd. Yeah, I know. I'm old. Not so much the music being the same as the vibe at the shows. Both crowds were there to listen and appreciate the pure artistry on display.
That was by far my personal favorite reaction to the song i've seen, SebsDuran. Thanks for sharing your personal insights into the spiritual themes as well as musical themes which Tool musically magically connect us to - the creative source, pure potentiality, spirit, Pneuma.. I guess we each connect with Tool in our unique individual ways. Quite similarly to you and many others perhaps, I have an interest in spiritual philosophy and practice and after some initial reading into Western philosophical and esoteric traditions (though I'm a practicing Buddhist in a Tibetan tantric tradition) I found a book that you might also find very helpful reading too: THE CAMBRIDGE HANDBOOK OF WESTERN MYSTICISM AND ESOTERICISM Edited by GLENN ALEXANDER MAGEE, Long Island University. The theme of this particuIar song, Pneuma, and the Divine Spark is rooted more in neo-platonic mysticism than in Stoic philosophy, you might be interested to learn. I had literally just finished reading this great tome when I fell head over heels into the Tool rabbit hole, listening initially to Fear Inoculum then Lateralus - their two most overtly spiritually themed albums. Mind blowing! Like you, I really was amazed how through music they are able to affectively, emotively connect one to primal levels of spiritual experience. Hence their name, Tool, that might inspire spiritual transformation, evolution. The book gives a great overview of many themes Tool/Maynard refer to. Hope you and similarly inspired listeners might likewise find it a helpful addition to your spiritual toolbox - pun intended! All the best, friend(s)
Delving deeper, another great groundbreaking seminal work you might be interested in reading: Making Magic: Religion, Magic, and Science in the Modern World by RANDALL STYERS And a superb quick reference book covering all in the above two books : Dictionary of Gnosis and Western Esotericism Edited by Wouter J Hanegraaff
On the non-duality of body and mind - a recurrent theme in Tool songs - and with reference to Buddhist philosophy and meditation praxis and its relevance in cutting edge cognitive science research you might also be interested in reading The Embodied Mind - Cognitive Science and Human Experience, by Francisco Varela, Evan Thompson, and Eleanor Rosch. Delving further into identities and differences between Hellenistic and Buddhist Dzogchen thought: Wholeness Lost And Wholeness Regained - Forgotten Tales Of Individuation From Ancient Tibet By Herbert V Guenther From the author's Introduction: "The [Dzogchen] tradition can be traced back to the early centuries of the present era and the internal evidence points to an origin at a time of intense intellectual activity in a region where Hellenistic ideas (Pythagorean - Platonic and Neoplatonic - Gnostic) and Buddhist ideas (Indian - Buddhist and Chinese - Buddhist) met and certainly had an impact on each other, even if, finally, each thought system followed its own momentum in dealing with the ideas it encountered to build its respective model of reality. Thus one set of ideas, the Hellenistic one, stressed the philosophical - speculative (rational) aspect and, by necessity, remained structure - oriented, resulting in a vertically and rigidly hierarchically determined order of the universe that stayed intimately connected with the Limited (peras) as contrasted with the Unlimited (apeiron) of which Plato had spoken as the Indeterminate Dyad; the other, the Buddhist one, stressed the contemplative - experiential (mystic) aspect and, in being process - oriented, conceived of structures as process - structures that involved both vertical (hierarchically coordinated) and horizontal (field - like) dimensions. This difference in perspective may be elucidated by quoting from the outstanding representatives of both. In the Hellenistic framework, Pythagoras and Plotinus attached paramount importance to the notion of the "One". But whether Pythagoras and the Pythagoreans believed in the One as existing above the Monad and the Dyad, as claimed by Eudorus of Alexandria, is doubtful. For Plotinus, the One is the eternal source of all being of which in his Enneads he says: 'Generative of all, The Unity is none of all, neither thing nor quantity nor quality nor intellect nor soul'. Dzogchen thinkers, for whom the universe is not only intrinsically 'intelligent', but also a self - organizing whole of intensities, too, refer to what superficially looks like A or THE One (nyag - cig). However, they do not mean by it some entity or other set absolute, rather they attempt to convey by it the fusion of two contrary notions into a single dynamic one expressing, if we may say so, the experiencer's psychophysical continuum." . . .
Wait wait...this is his first track off of Fear Inoculum isnt it.......Oh shit. Welcome to brand-spankin-new Tool my friend. We waited 13 years for this album...and imo, it was worth every agonizing moment. Lateralus was deep.....10K days went deep and heavier...this newest chapter is just a whole new level.
You also need to watch the video of Danny Carey playing Pneuma. It shows the skill that Tool has. The drum cam of Danny gives a whole new appreciation of the song!
Glad you had fun with Pneuma. They all will continue to grow even further on you the more you listen, which is the best thing about the music of Tool. Have a blast with Descending. It's my favorite on the new album. Rock on!
I haven't seen Tool live but friend of mine saw em at the Fox Theater in Detroit in 2006. Tool were doing small venue "intimate" shows with the crowd seated at tables and told not to mosh or "rock out" or dance or whatever.. This was his first Tool show, he wasn't even that familiar with their music at all, someone had tickets and invited him, but he said it was like a freaking RELIGIOUS experience for him... although he was going to the bathroom to do coke throughout the night lol, but he really got into Tool there and afterwards. I think that show and Tool were part of what made him want to change his life and get off drugs and all that, he went down to California to some fancy rehab, haven't seen or heard from him in a while so IDK how he's even doing now, oh well..
The first time that I saw TOOL live was at a music festival with 100,000 people in the crowd. It was outdoors and we were in back so we had room to move. The stage lit up with a bunch of eyes and lazers shooting everywhere, it was awesome. From the first beat it was a concert that I will remember forever. The ability to dance and feel the earth tremble with the bass and drum vibrations from these guys was incredible. We were standing by a couple of fire spinners that added to the experience. If you ever get a chance to see them outside, take it. I hear you with a crowd being annoying or getting pushed when all I want to do is listen and dance. Visually speaking, TOOL has one of the best light shows I have ever witnessed. They go all out.
“As you might already know, Tool guitarist Adam Jones had a pretty cool job as a sculptor and special effects designer in Hollywood before joining the band. He worked in makeup and set design department on such iconic features as "Jurassic Park," "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," "Dances with Wolves," "Ghostbusters II," and more. By "and more" we mean that Adam designed the "Freddy Krueger in the womb" makeup for "A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child," and also worked on "A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master." Additionally, he sculpted a distinctive skull for the Predator's spaceship interior in "Predator 2." Needless to say, Adam's movie years and experience had a major impact on Tool's visual aspect.”
Third eye (their magnum opus imo) really marks their transition into even deeper spiritual music (not that they werent before). Can’t wait to see your reaction to that one.
People who have been fans of Tool since the beginning got to experience the Tool journey in a way that very few newcomers do. We experienced the growth and transformation musically and spiritually that all the members of the band went through. Everything Tool learned along the way was passed on through each new album. Experiencing the music, and Maynards lyrics, allowed us to grow and transform right along with them. I feel sorry for the newcomers, because in order to truly experience the Tool Journey, and receive its full benefits, one must start at the beginning and listen to each album, in the order they were released.
Watching TOOL live hit different mate. Danny Carey was in charge of my heartbeat. You cannot fathom how hard those drums slap when you're in the audience. Without drowning out the rest of the band. It's impossible to physically resist the beat. The light show is trippy as hell and so is Maynard's weird behaviour. It's an absolute experience.
I saw them live in Youngstown Ohio July 2007! It was UNBELIEVABLE! To experience that again, this March in Pittsburgh!! I can't wait! Especially now with Fear Innoculum added! So great to see a new member of the Tool Army join... Keep going down the rabbit hole bro. Time for Schism!!
Tool is the thinking mans metal . They are amazing in concert and Danny is who people come to watch play . Please watch the drum cam version of Pnuema and have your mind blown . You have to also remember Danny was 58 yrs old when they filmed the video . Love the reactions.
I’ve seen tool twice 2002 & 2006 it was mind blowing there music and deep lyrics take you away ( spiraling out ) I love them been a fan since 1993 tool Army for life there music is life ! So many masterpieces!!! I really love seeing you react and feel there music is so moving in so many ways ( going down the rabbit hole ) yes ! Watching your mind blown is awesome 🤯🎶😉🤘🏽💙 TOOL
Came for Tool and decided to stay. Love your insights. It is absolutely okay to get emotional. When the albun first dropped I made the mistake to listen to it while I was out in the mall. I didn´t know what hit me, I started crying with chills up and down my spine and I didn´t know what hit me. It was this song. I stopped in my tracks in the middle of a crowded mall and sobbed like a baby. And I am not religious in any way, but very spiritually interested. Keep up the good work. Sending love and light from Germany.
I’ve been fortunate enough to see Tool four times live through all stages of their career. Once in ‘96 when they were just raw power and a little scary, like what am I experiencing right now this is crazy. In 2001 at gorge amphitheater for lateralus which was my favorite concert. It looked like Maynard was a restrained wild animal on stage with amazing explosive imagery behind him. Saw them for 10,000 days great as always, and then in 2020 one day before they canceled their tour due to the pandemic. That show was amazing, a true display of their mastery. I’ve been listening to Tool for 30 years now and I still find myself understanding their music from different angles and in increasing depth.
I've been a Tool fan since 95 but only seen them live for the 1st time last year just before Rona hit. It's the only concert I have been to but wow what an experience, life and kids got in the way as priorities but glad I got to see them once before they retired. If they come again I'll be the 1st in line to go again.
I've seen them twice. First was back in the day, rt after Undertow. Down and dirty. Entire place was a mosh pit and the sound was perfect. They poured everything they had into that show. Relentless. Second time was after Lateralis, and it was like Nine Inch Nails plus Pink Floyd. If you've noticed the artwork, the physical picture on cd were a fold out booklet that was see through, so you could view anatomical layers of the body and consciousness. There were huge banners of each layer all around that reacted to lights. The band played mostly in the dark but illuminated the audience and they has a synthetic thunderstorm. Only time they stopped playing so Maynerd could say "...We've heard there's been breasts..."
I read somewhere the band writes the music first and then Maynard writes the lyrics. Thought that was pretty cool. Tool changed and saved my life. I love your reviews! Keep them coming.
There's so many more songs you have to listen. I think you'd find Schism interesting for the rhythms and darker subject. Fear Innoculum would be good post covid. And Invincible us a great motivational piece.
I've seen them 10 times. Between the lasers and video screens and everything they incorporate, and the sheer enjoyment of watching them play their instruments, it really is the best live rock show you can go to.
I saw TOOL live at the Big Day Out Festival in Gold Coast, Australia, they played right after Rammstein, it was one of the best nights of my life! Unbelievable.
I've seen them 24 times and have tickets for 1/21/22 here in Phoenix and flying to Chicago to see them on 3/10. You have to see them. It will change you. It is amazing. Not sure how much longer they will tour as Danny is almost 60. I hope he has 15 more years but I will see them as many times as I can, because we are only here for so long. Take advantage.
I've seen them 4 times now, I'll be seeing them in January 22 here in Sacramento. Each concert just gets better. Much like the albums, the focus is on the whole not an individual. The show is amazing. The work they put into building the production must be mammoth. It's a journey man. Something my son and I have ventured together. He buys me tickets, I buy him tickets. Just go dude. You have to see them live to truly experience thier art.
I’ve watched all your Tool reactions and I’m glad you have experienced them. The drum cam video of this song is a must even in your spare time. I admit for a long time I didn’t grasp how amazing Danny Carey actually is and I’ve been enjoying Tool for decades now. Gotta do “Vicarious” if you haven’t already.
So happy seeing these Tool reactions Sebs. Jambi has deep lyrics & is a banger for your workout playlist. Plus how many bands do you know that have the balls to name a song after a Pee Wee Herman character?
Saw them live on the lateralus tour in Adelaide South Australia over 20yrs ago. Hands down the BEST experience 🙌 It continues to change my life every day
Watching Tool live is amazing. I have been to 2 shows and they are literally as good live as they are recorded, and they always do an intermission for 15 or 20 minutes where danny just does a drum solo of whatever he wants to do. My wife and I have tickets for them this upcoming February as well so Im excited for that!! P.S. I need that dad bod shirt too, haha
Welcome to the journey, you've found a good rabbit hole to fall into haha I've seen Tool live only twice, but both were amazing experiences. First time back in 2011 and there were so many coincidences or synchronicities that night, met a bunch of old friends I had lost contact with... Then last year in January I almost didn't make it cause I was in a wreck that morning but some friends gave me a ride out to the show cause they knew I needed it, they played one of my favorite songs that got me through a really dark time in my life and it meant so much to hear it again.
Saw Tool in concert last year before the pandemic. Ordered my tickets for this coming February. Its going to be dope! Check out Swamp Song. This is a great rabbit hole, and it's sure to suck you down!
Tool has always been one of my favorite bands. Had seen them the first time in 1993 at Lollapalooza in Irwindale and most recently in San Diego at the beginning of the 2020 tour before everything was shut down. Keep up the good work on your channel..🤙
they are going on tour man....most likely to a town near you!! You for SURE need to experience them live. Now is for sure the time. If you can score tickets, bring a loved one and go so the greatest band ever perform euphoric banger after euphoric banger.
First saw them in the early 90’s as a newer band. They played the side stage at the Lalapalooza Festival and the buzz surrounding them was growing quickly. Been lucky enough to see them throughout the years for just about every tour but am most grateful for seeing them in January 2020 for the Fear Inoculum tour, right before the shutdown. It feels like the first time watching with you and I look forward to this journey. Enjoy, there’s much more greatness to experience.
I watched tool live for the first time last year. They brought COVID into NZ but boy was it worth it. I watched both days in Auckland. It was something else. First day in the crowd up front standing towards the right where Justin was and second day in the seats left side closest to Adam. I would choose seated everytime! They are an experience that I will always remember! They played 7empest live for the first time in that show.
The way I always described it to people who looked a little turned off by their first sounds they heard: Tool takes all the dirtiest, distorted sounds, weird beats that put you off beat, and mismatched melodies, and wills them into a full rendition of beauty.
Seen tool 4 times... 5 in march. Its unlike any other show I've seen. There no moshing, and I'm completely fine with that. Just an arena full of people going on a rhythmic journey. I remember leaving after my first tool concert. I looked at my friend and said "what the fuck just happened? " He looked at me, blank faced, and said "Huh?" That's a tool concert.
I saw Tool live in 1997 when they were one of the headliners in Lollapalooza. I saw them at what was (at the time) called Deer Creek Music Center. The "lawn" seating area...which was basically just a huge, grassy, open field area, became one huge mosh pit during their set. The crowd ripped up all of the grass/ sod off the ground and strips of dirt and grass were flying everywhere. Several fires were lit in various areas. It was pandemonium. That was "Angry" Tool, back in the day! I am going to be seeing them live in March of 2022...something tells me that will be a whole different, transcendent level experience!
I got too see TOOL live in Melbourne Australia 2020 just before we were in lockdown. It was my first live TOOL concert. I walked out feeling complete euphoria. BUCKET LIST done. Hopefully get to see them again.
Saw Tool live once, exactly 20 years ago. They opened with Stinkfist and The Grudge, I don't remember in what order. Stinkfist was my favorite Tool song back then so 2 songs in my mind was already blown. They also played Aenema, which turned out to be the highlight of the night for me. I forgot where I was, who I was, I was just there. Amazing feeling. Oh and 100% sober by the way. I wish they played at least one song from Undertow that evening, but that show was memorable. I think you'd be ready for Third Eye. Long song, trippy as hell, but oh my... I mean, the song is titled Third Eye, so knowing you're into meditation, this seems like a perfect fit. Brace yourself though ;)
Subbed for Tool. I'm not religious but a Tool show is the closest thing I can get to a religious experience. I schedule my vacations around their tour dates. I highly recommend seeing them live. It's a whole new experience. They're touring the US in early 2022. Really enjoying your journey
Neither are they. More spiritual
Hell yeah, had tickets to one of the shows they cancelled but they're coming to the same spot I had tickets for and I got tickets again! Let's hope it actually happens this time! Lol
Saw tool 3 times between '09-'19. Fcking awesome live show.
Make yourself a little treat for right before you walk in the venue:
1 sugar cookie (or your choice of treat), 1 Tbsp peanut butter, 2.5grams p. cubensis mushrooms ground/sliced to small pieces. Mix ground mushrooms and peanut butter, spread across cookie. Yummy yummy 👀🍄🔮🌈🌟🌌
alternatively you could just eat those weird little bits of paper that make you feel silly and happy🤏◽👅. You might know someone with a sheet of those if you look around
Saw them right before COVID hit, hands down the best live show ever.
My ringtone also!
My ringtone also!
I can die happy knowing I saw them perform Lateralus live.
maaaaaan cmoooon noooooooo this man knows whats up please danny carey version please man cmon this version is shit
One of the best drum preformances of all time, hands down
I have tickets to see em live in January, first time in over 10 years, and I'm going to cry, a lot. Tool live is an experience that is completely unmatched by anything I've ever witnessed in my life
Tool's song "Schism" is another must listen too. Perfect Circle song "Judith" is amazing with Maynard's voice too.🌹
+1 to both. Judith is of course an essential lead-in to Wings 1 and 2 too.
@@BunniMonster I really have several favorites from Perfect Circle..."The Noose", "The Outsider" and "Weak and Powerless" is one of my absolute favorites.🌹
Oh yeah! He don't even know about a perfect circle yet
The most "must listen" song from tool after right in two, for a religious man, is The Grudge in my opinion.
@@ThisisStephennn He is definitely missing out!😉
Love watching your journey with this band!
🍄🇨🇦agreed ✌️🤘
You've got to watch the live Danny Carey drum cam version of this song
You need to watch the drum cam version of this song. Otherwise, Schism and Wings for Marie, parts 1 & 2
^^ exactly this ^^
Found Sebs because of TOOL reactions.
Just wait till you watch the drum cam for this song
Danny "human octopus" Carey
Love watching you experience this and reflect in your original and unique way dude 🌀
This album took me a bit of re-listening to finally help me transition into it truly becoming my most listened to music.
They are deep👣 musicians
...but it's not, but it is, but it not, you know?
You ARE on the wavelength
Seriously think their song H. would resonate with you. I believe you said previously that you are a new parent. Maynard, although remaining very cryptic, has alluded to the song being about his son. It can be interpreted in many ways but I believe it is his struggle and acceptance with becoming a father
I have heard many takes on what H means, the best fit I can find is it's all about herion, hence "H" the street name.
If you want to react to a Maynard as parent song, just listen to Agostina by Puscifer. Beautiful love song to his daughter.
It's always great seeing a Tool fan born. I like all kinds of music. This band is a once in a generation band. They age like a fine wine.
(Tears!)
I think Orestes by APC might also fit into that list of songs about his Mother?
@@joechurch7 oh absolutely. That song helps me when memory of losing my mother comes back to me.
"If you've watched Tool live, what was that like?"
Well, one of my best friends of 15+ years who introduced me to the band.
The only way I can describe seeing Tool in concert is that when you leave you don't leave saying that it was something that you did but rather something that was done to you
I saw them a few months ago in Vegas. Music was done to my body with a heavy machine gun. I am... changed.
Right on brother…do em all!!!
I truly think you have the best reactions, amazing to watch you grow into Tool. I’ve subscribed. ❤️🇨🇦
My song list in order:
Intermission/Jimmy - Tool
Mama Sed (live version) - Puscifer
Judith - Perfect Circle
Jambi - Tool
Wings for Marie 1&2 - Tool
Favorite Tool song is the last one I listen to. Need to listen to entire discography starting with Opiate. One of my favorites, besides the last one I listened to, is Pushit. Listen to the album then the live Salival version. Soooo Amazing!!
I've seen Tool live twice. Both times were amazing. The only other concert experience I could compare it to that I've seen personally is Pink Floyd. Yeah, I know. I'm old. Not so much the music being the same as the vibe at the shows. Both crowds were there to listen and appreciate the pure artistry on display.
I compare them to Pink Floyd frequently. Same creative and sonic vibe. 👍
I love watching your journey man.
You have GOT to go see them on this tour! Tears when they played this live in 2019!
Quite similarly to you and many others perhaps, I have an interest in spiritual philosophy and practice and after some initial reading into Western philosophical and esoteric traditions (though I'm a practicing Buddhist in a Tibetan tantric tradition) I found a book that you might also find very helpful reading too:
THE CAMBRIDGE HANDBOOK OF WESTERN MYSTICISM AND ESOTERICISM
Edited by GLENN ALEXANDER MAGEE, Long Island University.
Delving deeper, another great groundbreaking seminal work you might be interested in reading:
Making Magic:
Religion, Magic, and Science in the Modern World
by RANDALL STYERS
And a superb quick reference book covering all in the above two books
:
Dictionary of Gnosis and Western Esotericism
Edited by Wouter J Hanegraaff
Nice one. Thanks, PJ!
Delving further into identities and differences between Hellenistic and Buddhist Dzogchen thought:
Wholeness Lost And Wholeness Regained - Forgotten Tales Of Individuation From Ancient Tibet
By Herbert V Guenther
From the author's Introduction:
"The [Dzogchen] tradition can be traced back to the early centuries of the present era and the internal evidence points to an origin at a time of intense intellectual activity in a region where Hellenistic ideas (Pythagorean - Platonic and Neoplatonic - Gnostic) and Buddhist ideas (Indian - Buddhist and Chinese - Buddhist) met and certainly had an impact on each other, even if, finally, each thought system followed its own momentum in dealing with the ideas it encountered to build its respective model of reality.
Seriously, a whole different level
No It’s the second on the album
@@Gideonite ahh ok ok thanks for that clarification!
My first concert ever when I was 16. 1998 Red Rocks. Imagine that. Then imagine that on two blotters.
You also need to watch the video of Danny Carey playing Pneuma. It shows the skill that Tool has. The drum cam of Danny gives a whole new appreciation of the song!
Bro - it's awesome seeing you feel the way so many people feel when they immerse themselves in the beauty of Tool's music!
Welcome to the Maynard rabbit hole. Maynard has 3 bands. Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Puscifer. I'm super excited seeing new people listen them. 🎶
By "and more" we mean that Adam designed the "Freddy Krueger in the womb" makeup for "A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child," and also worked on "A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master."
Additionally, he sculpted a distinctive skull for the Predator's spaceship interior in "Predator 2." Needless to say, Adam's movie years and experience had a major impact on Tool's visual aspect.”
Third eye (their magnum opus imo) really marks their transition into even deeper spiritual music (not that they werent before). Can’t wait to see your reaction to that one.
This may be my all-time favorite song. So unique and powerful and just beautiful. Epic.
Danny Carey drum cam playthrough of this song is absolutely amazing
This entire album is amazing. Invincible is another great track. The guys deal with struggling to be relevant as they age. ✌
I will repeat...watch the live drum cam of Pneuma. This was by far the best song performance when I saw them twice before COVID.
Also you should’ve done the live version it’s an amazing experience.
Seeing tool live is like a hug for ur soul
You absolutely need to watch the live drum cam for this song... Legendary.
The lyrics, of course r just so genius! All these guys are just top notch musician's!
Love it! You keep listening to Tool and I'll keep following your path down the rabbit hole.
Saw them live on the lateralus tour in Adelaide South Australia over 20yrs ago. Hands down the BEST experience 🙌 It continues to change my life every day
Can we just talk about how Awesome Tool's Album art always is
Watching Tool live is amazing.
Welcome to the journey, you've found a good rabbit hole to fall into haha
I've seen Tool live only twice, but both were amazing experiences.
I see the Tool fans have arrived. This channel just keeps on getting better!
Glad to hear you shout out Justin at the end. He’s such an unsung hero in this band. I think he really drives them as much as any other member.
they are going on tour man....most likely to a town near you!! You for SURE need to experience them live. Now is for sure the time. If you can score tickets, bring a loved one and go so the greatest band ever perform euphoric banger after euphoric banger.
Definitely gotta see Danny’s drum cam like you said!! It’s an experience in itself
I've watched maybe 6 of your videos in a row. Something about connecting with someone that shares a passion for your band. 🤘
I saw them live twice, and about to see them again two more times (maybe 3). They are soooo good live, I can't wait till 2022
Tool 'Pneuma' live Danny Carey drumcam and 'Jambi' live 2013 🤟
First saw them in the early 90’s as a newer band. They played the side stage at the Lalapalooza Festival and the buzz surrounding them was growing quickly. Been lucky enough to see them throughout the years for just about every tour but am most grateful for seeing them in January 2020 for the Fear Inoculum tour, right before the shutdown. It feels like the first time watching with you and I look forward to this journey. Enjoy, there’s much more greatness to experience.
150 years from now this will be classical music
He looked at me, blank faced, and said "Huh?"
That's a tool concert.
Another recommendation for the Dannycam video.it really shows you the precision and talent of that man.just incredible.
I got too see TOOL live in Melbourne Australia 2020 just before we were in lockdown. It was my first live TOOL concert. I walked out feeling complete euphoria. BUCKET LIST done. Hopefully get to see them again.
You have to watch this with 4K camera on Danny Carey playing this song. it's' crazy
Tool is truly unlike any other. In a league of their own! Love them with all of my being 🙌🏼
Saw Tool live once, exactly 20 years ago.
