Robert Kearns played bass with Skynyrd for a bit also, so there are two Skynyrd alumni in this lineup......Kearns and Audley have been playing together for many years now.
I love seeing Dave Grohl feeding off of Artimus and catching his vibes. Two drummers from two of the most influential bands of all time jamming on a song for the ages.
Let me say 1st and foremost with respect and kindness that Artimus Pyle is a great player and especially for his age BUT.....here it comes...wait for it...he has a tendency to overplay. As a drummer turned to guitar student now, it looks to me like Dave is trying to keep artimus held down slow & pretty in the pocket. Ol’ Warren finally gives up & during the other guitarists lead break starts holding it down for him by chopping out the rhythm on his guitar....that’s a pro move by warren. It makes the guitar player have to work harder. I know. I’ve heard my old man tell me this a million times and I hope I get to hear him tell me a million more! But overall great job by these exceptional players Artimus included! A drummers job is and should be backing the band and holding it down soft when pretty and raise it up hard when raunchy. It’s a lonely job out of the spotlight for the drums surrounded by the strings. Drums aren’t as eccentric and vain as those strings are. There would be a drum lead in every song and they would call them guitars if they were. But I could be wrong 🤷🏾....yeah I’m probably wrong. I’ll check with my wife 🕺🏾🕺🏾🕺🏾🕺🏾🕺🏾✌🏼
This was the Sunday after Xmas jam in Ashville, NC 3 ago. Warren and G'mule did " Dark side of mule" the night before. Looking forward to this year's Xmas Jam Dec 10, 2022 !!
Ol Warren, he could make disco music sound good. I have to go to a Warren Haynes show,if I don't get to anyone else"s, I think he's about my favorite living musician.
How lucky were we to catch this show, laying on the couch, watching football after two night of Christmas jam and a buddy from Greensboro NC texts me about this show tickets on sale, couldn't get any online, so threw some winter gear on and drove to Orange peel and scored tix, amazing night on music!!
I don't blame the poster (very grateful for this post!), but our world is broken that one of the greatest rock guitarists of all time is on that stage in Audley Freed and he is not named and hardly known. He has made a good living, but he should be up there with Hendrix, Clapton, Haynes, etc...
Fun rock n roll fact, when 9/11 happened Dave and the Foos were in LA. His mom in Virginia so Warren Haynes and the mule let Mrs Grohl ride on their tour bus back to California. Now they are friends 😂
@@lesheath6216 yes, and the best things about Nirvana were Dave Grohl’s drumming, and Dave Grohl’s backup vocals! He stood out like a sore thumb in that band! I can still hear every one of his Nirvana drum hits… monster drummer!
Warren Haynes Audley Freed and Dave Grohl on guitars? Wow. I bet Dave made it known before hand he wasn’t playing any leads. He knows better when he’s in the presence of guitar masters 😂
I'm surprised he didn't prop up a kit right next to Artie... After all these years I still consider him a drummer and think he looks awkward playing guitar...
~Im a little judgemental when i hear covers of the Ronnie version but being Artimus on drums is ok by me gotta have that beat & bass. R.I.P. all members gone but never forgotton.✌
fun fact Artemus Pyle tried out for the CDB Charlie told him he was happy with his drummer..but he had a friend he called Ronnie Vanzant and he put the two together
I must say @JPW........Opinions are something that everyone has and is entitled to, Me for instance, I am going to take advantage of this moment in time to address this "Guy" We will refer to him as an "AIR Burglar". Although Artemus is ageing and maybe free styling this a bit ~ Oh,may I remind you he lived through a plane crash Sadly all were NOT so lucky... So since the fella who can play better drums than Artemus Pyle, perhaps you can fill in for the Missing members of the Band instead there HOT SHOT !!! Oh by the way when you where being groomed as a "All around World Class Musician", did you manage to learn to fly an airplane too ? Perhaps you can do all the above but remember this My friend there are those who do it .......And then there's "YOU" , I guess that can be considered your failed interview and audition for the Band. I don't Blame them a bit. Sounds like you would of been a regular "Pain in the Ass" & Hell everyone would have to just put up with you ..... or perhaps you have to catch a quick flight outta town, Need a lift ? (to be continued)
Lynyrd Skynyrd shoulda never got rid of Artimus but there just not what they used to be anyway Aimus band is much better Actually this band here is better
My God. What a song writing monster Lynyrd Skynyrd was. I can't think of a single song they did that I don't like. One in a million band.
And Don`t Forget AUDLEY FREED !!! A Great Nashville Musician. Always loved seeing him play with Warren !
Robert Kearns played bass with Skynyrd for a bit also, so there are two Skynyrd alumni in this lineup......Kearns and Audley have been playing together for many years now.
I could listen to Warren play his Les Paul all day everyday! Thoroughly enjoyed this
Great cover guys, song for every man on earth. If they listen !!

Warren Hayens now this man has the voice For Simple Man
Ronnie Holloway is one helluva sax guy! All of these guys are fantastic! Thanks for sharing!
Just found this video, what a performance. Adding the saxophone to this southern rock classic was awesome. Thanks for sharing this.
Ron Holloway on sax 🎷

Rock On Artimus!!!xoxoxo
that drumming👌
That sax solo was the best part
Jerry Foster Just came across his name: Ron Holloway.
Ron Holloway is the best. A living legend
Ron Halloway has sat in with the Allman Brothers repeatedly.
He used to play with Root Boy Slim, DC legend. I believe Ron also played with Dizzy Gillespie when he was young.
Great man going a great song
I never knew that Simple Man was missing a sax solo.
Wow! Just wow.... and I live an hour away and was snowed in. Oh well.
I was in a hotel 2 miles away. Didn't know about it.
i like that sax solo that was pretty good
The sax guy is amazing..

Warren usually plays a Firebird to capture the Allen Collins sound when Mule plays Simple Man.
Dig the way Artie keeps gently pushing the tempo to keep it lively and from dragging

Yeah!!!! With Audley!!!!!!!!! Yeah!!!
Dave Grohl this cat knows talent because he is talent of the FIRST ORDER
im not so sure about that, after all he did play with cobain who had absolutely NO talent

Artimus is a very percussive drummer ,which is sadly missing with any cover versions of L/S
I remember him in qosa

Ha! Two years later and I never noticed I spelled it wrong! Oops.
Who's the tall dude with the SG?
I think you are referring to Audley Freed.
Dat be him. Thanks Bo. Seen him with a few acts but haven't run into him here in Nashville yet.

I can play drums better than that dude. Who is that on drums? Taylor Hawkins? Give me those sticks I'll show you how to play it.
JPW that’s Artemus Pyle, the drummer for Lynard Skynyrd, the band that wrote this song. One could say that’s exactly how it’s supposed to be played.
my ass

By the second half of the song he starts to get in the groove. But the first half is--I thought it was an amateur.
