    thank you philippa for the helpful video!
    i think there are some crafters who struggle with hourly pricing, especially when just starting out.
    Inevitably, someone with less experience felting takes a much longer time to complete the same project (for example, I might take 8 hours to complete the same sheep phililpa created in 3, but it doesn't mean I get to charge 5x8 pounds more for the same product!)
    In these cases I think it's helpful to refer to the pricing of other, more experienced crafters. This way you can sell more items at a reasonable price, get more practice in, and switch to an hourly price when you have more confidence in the craft. 🥰

    I have quite a few hobbies, in the process of renovating a dollhouse, I make polymer clay fairy houses too and handmade soaps 😊 I feel I don’t value my skills enough, never have, probably just about cover the cost of materials, think I need to have more confidence and be braver 😅

    Super interesting Pippa! I'd never have thought a sheep would cost nearly a tenner in materials alone. I guess cause we all buy in bulk and wool is relatively cheap, but it does add up. I never think in the terms of breaking even either after time and costs! It certainly puts a different spin on it all for me in terms of worth.
    Thank you! xx

      I do think it was my wool at £5 but if you use a nice tops they are about £3 to £4. It was a good test to work it out exactly as that really helps you see this as a business. I thought I took longer but obviously not, must be all those cups of tea I get! 😄x

    Hi Phillipa, my name is Dorina, I am from Romania, I have a UA-cam channel for 5 years and for some time I have discovered and learned the needle technique.
    I follow your tutorials with interest and today's one was like an answer to my questions.
    Interesting calculation (final product cost).
    Question: what kind of legal form is suitable for this kind of business? I want to make income from this activity in the near future.
    Thank you!

    • @feltsbyphilippa
      @feltsbyphilippa  2 роки тому

      Hi Dorina,
      In the UK we have no legal form needed, these are adult ornaments so do not need CE testing (a safety test for children's toys etc). I do have insurance which is advisable if you are selling on Etsy, that is all really. Do ask if that hasn't explained it correctly and thank you for watching x

    Great video 👍 do you factor in the time it takes you to market and sell? For example, mileage to get to the craft fair, or an hourly rate for photography and posting online?

    • @feltsbyphilippa
      @feltsbyphilippa  2 роки тому +1

      I cover other factors in my pricing your craft items. Mileage isn't a big thing for me but would be if I travelled alot. Time to take photos and post definitely should be included when you start but I can do 10 items in about 2 hours now so it's roughly 12 minutes each (through copying previous listings so just new photos and video). It wouldn't be that much more to the price. Time to go to the post office is another expense especially if it's just one item but despite all of this being able to sell and cover all of costs and nearly all labour is a definite goal when you first start out and knowing how long you take to felt an item is great for being more exact x
