This was my first motorcycle bought as a leftover in 1974. On the ride up my dad was saying how he’d get some money off the price. The dealer wanted $702 and my dad got him down to $700!!! The first few days my dad and younger brother spent most of the time riding it as I was struggling with clutch and gas to get going. This was so frustrating. 50 years later and I’m still riding. Off-road weapon I use for hard dual sports is my KTM 350 EXC-F. Easy dual sports I use my Honda XR650L. Lastly my BMW R1200 GSA for long distance back road rides. Typically ride one day a week year round weather permitting. Thanks for bringing back some great memories. One last one. When I finally learned to ride the CT3 I went out after a rain storm when dad was out. When I returned home it was covered on mud. I thought pops was going to kill me.
nice work. if you dont want to buy the cooling fin rubber grommets, cut up some fuel hose and wedge it inbetween to keep the noises down. relativvely cheap and easy. another thing you might find handy is to use the air compressor blower to dry out the water in your fuel tank keep the vids coming!
Hi sounds great there , I haven't been on for a while but see you have been busy 👍😁 I have a bit of catching up to do !!!!! Great wee bike there , tank was in good condition and the carb ,engine sounding sweet I'll need to backtrack and watch the full build , brilliant work as usual .👍👍👍
Good job sounds like it’s running perfectly. Can’t wait to see you out on the trail with it. With that MX cylinder head it should perform really well. Would like to see you compare it to the Suzuki 185 maybe do a trail Comparison side-by-side. Look forward to your next video
Sounds fiery, very different to a standard 175 due to MX mods. Very nice! Maybe it's just the wide angle camera but the handle bars look bent. Congrats on the engine rebuild. 👍
The promise of lively performance from that GYT top end and a sound methodical rebuild. Ideally l'd like to see this treated to the really deep clean it deserves.👍
Ha! I just had the same fight with the brakes on my dt100. Completely seized up. I did finally get it running for the first time in decades..for all of 20 minutes. Now it wont crank again. Think the coil died on me.
@Garage2Trail 1975. Put a cdi ignition on it. Points and coils were completely shot. Bike ran for 20 minutes with a repop ignition coil, spark got weak, then quit. Tried the original one and no luck. I get voltage from the source coil when I spin the stator, but no spark when I connect either coil.
Good job young man. If you need new parts where do you source them? Rings, piston, etc. petcock gasket.. I know you had the gasket but I'm sure my 73 DT250 which hasn't been started in 25 yrs will need it. Would there be MX mods for mine? I' am going to look at your series of vids on this bike. TY
Thank you! I normally check the part numbers off CMSNLcom and then search those same numbers on eBay. I got all the parts for this off eBay and a few seals from rockymountainatvmc.com. You can still get brand new OEM Yamaha stuff believe it or not! If you can’t find the parts on eBay, CMSNL normally has them. They are based out of UK but it’s nice to have a last resort for hard to find stuff.
Awww bless your heart I'm in bristol va.my riding days are over .looks like. Fun taking the yamaha apart and making it close to new.thank you so much for these wonderful videos
I take your point but it didn't quite get to the heat stage. Agree abt the pliers though good job the spring was weak😁. A cable tie makes a better puller (gloves on to spare the flesh)
My Dad bought this exact bike for me in 74, I was 12 and in love, I still have the tank as a memento @ 62 , Thanks for the memory
That’s cool you still have a part of it. What happened to the rest?
My irst bike! Bought it new and rode it home after never having ridden a bike before..# years after my wife was born .Now I'm 71...so I never died

That’s some great memories right there! Thank you for sharing! 👍
Purchased mine brand new from a dealer in Brisbane Australia.....1973
Wow. Fired right up! And idled nicely. Got a winner right there.
Yeah I have a good feeling about this one. Definitely a keeper
Nice run on the old classic scrambler. The gold colour on the old Yamaha is still looking pretty good. I like the old bikes.
Thank you, and me too!
Great job just love the side profile the seat the tank everything looks perfect and the colour to and the sound awesome
Thank you! I agree. That metal flake “Goldust Gold” is the perfect 70s color.
Great job, as usual! You're motivating me to get my '75 DT175 done. I just finished an IT175 and your videos have really helped. Cheers!
Thank you! Glad to hear they helped out! 🍻

keep the vids coming!
Thank you! That’s a great idea, I think I’ll try that.
I did that on my old TY 175 - used auto crank breather hose. Try electrolosis on next tank - no more flash rusting like with an acid.@@Garage2Trail
@@agee8322 I’ve heard that works great. Just not sure how to set it up. I’ll have to take a look online. Thanks!
Man I love that sound nothing like an old 2 stroke
Thank God for Yamaha! Sure did make quality bikes back in the day. I can smell the exhaust, amzoil? Lol! Love the video
Thanks! And I agree…Yamaha owned the 2 stroke market in the 70s for the enduro bikes.

Thanks Wattie! Great to hear from you again! You have a lot to get caught up on!! 😝. Always appreciate the feedback 👍
I love these videos! Got me on market place! Great work!
Thanks!
superb classic!

Thanks! That’s a great idea. I think I’ll do a video of this running the trails on its own and then maybe a shootout between the TS and CT!

Yeah she’s definitely a little fire breather! I think the bars are actually bent a little bit lol. And thank you!
Super job mate, even though I’m used to bigger bikes,my dt175 still gives me a surprise with its turn of speed especially for a small bike
Thank you! The MX cylinder and head really wake it up I’m sure.
@@Garage2Trail do you reckon it’ll do the 10 mile trail?
@@bluehazeboy not sure, I’ll have to get a feel for it on my first trail ride with it. Would be cool to attempt it with this bike!
@@Garage2Trail that’s gotta be worthy of a video, if it’s possible
@bluehazeboy I’ll see what I can do!

She will get the spa treatment once I get her down in the woods for a bit! 👍
@@Garage2Trail 'Spa treatment' l'll hold you to that.😁
@@bananabrooks3836 😂
This one is coming along very nicely, great work 👍🏻 that fuel line looks similar to what i use. it’s nice and soft and doesn’t kink.
Thank you! Yeah it’s some fuel line I picked up at the local auto parts store. Works good!
Sweet little bike! Great video
Thank you!
Sounds spot on 👍😎
Thank you!
Good job brother.
Thank you my friend
Nice job m8 I'm waiting for you to do a st90 and see what it can do out in the woods m8.😮
Thanks Andy! I would love to find one but they are always priced so high…not many pop up around me.
Ha! I just had the same fight with the brakes on my dt100. Completely seized up. I did finally get it running for the first time in decades..for all of 20 minutes. Now it wont crank again. Think the coil died on me.
Ahh bummer! What year is your bike? Does it have points?

I wish I could ride it
If you live near Pittsburgh, PA you are welcome to take it for a ride!

Love what you do...2 points- why no heat on the brake and needle nose instead of a spring puller?
I take your point but it didn't quite get to the heat stage. Agree abt the pliers though good job the spring was weak😁. A cable tie makes a better puller (gloves on to spare the flesh)
Thank you! Heat would have been next and I need to get myself a spring puller!
Fuuunn! 😋
I haven’t seen someone use an impact screwdriver on an install. Enlighten me please. I might need that later.
I only use it to give a light tap on case and side cover screws. Not hitting it hard at all.
Sounds awesome you must not be married 😂😂😂😂
Lol I am not. Living a stress free bachelor life!

Why one blue and one green glove
Blue left, green right, Yamaha approved colour code.
