Why did 90s movies have the best instrumental soundtracks? Even comedies and family movies were epic. They used to really put a lot of heart and soul into the music.
Yes, it's one of the things that make this movie so special. It works on so many levels, it's not merely a comedy flick to eat popcorn to. It's a truly beautiful movie.
I loved this movie when it first came out. To me I felt this movie had a lot of heart in it. The way they stuck together even when it got rough for them at the end of the film People aren't this way any more. It's every person for themselves now a days. If only people were still this way.
Such a great movie and fantastic score. This has been one of my favorite movies since I was a little kid and has come to resonate with me more and more as I get older.
I think that in the beginning, everything is silly and comedic because the main characters do not take life seriously. It's so shallow to them. Then they go on this adventure and it becomes meaningful to them. I think that is my favorite part about this movie. :)
yes..... "Bringing in the Herd" ...... the climax of the movie, and the ultimate metaphor as it relates to life - at some point, it becomes a choice that each of us must make, to either take the easy road, or to "bring in the herd" - as Mitch says to Ed, when Ed decides to go it alone to complete the job, "you're not a cowboy, you run a sporting goods store"!!! ..... Ed replies, "NOT TODAY" ..... then later, in the river, as Mitch risks his life to save Norman the calf forcing Ed and Phil to save his life, Ed says, "I may be crazy, but you are really nuts!!!" ..... I just love this movie so very much - it says so much about life on so many levels .....Not the least of which was Curly's lesson for Mitch - regarding the most important thing in life - the answer being that ONE THING that we all need to figure out - and Mitch figured it out in that river while trying to save Norman.... his ONE THING was his family, because that's all he was thinking of as his life was flashing before his eyes while being swallowed up by the river rapids.
Westerns, comedy or otherwise, deserve great musical scores. The best of these in my opinion is the soundtrack to Lonesome Dove. This soundtrack, minus the silly fast stuff, creates a nostalgia for a time and way of life long in the past.
Marc Shaiman is one of my heros. And he really mastered that great wide open cowboy ranch sound. He did a fantastic rendition of the theme song from Dallas, on the soundtrack of the 1994 movie North starring Elijah Wood. Unfortunately that movie and soundtrack has been very much forgotten, (Didnt even go to DVD) and the soundtrack hard to find, but its gorgeous
Just saw it, still a great movie! And the soundtrack is wonderful. Do ya`ll know that here on UA-cam, there is a "City Slickers in Westworld feat. Billy Crystal"? You should go watch it!
@Horizons1, and I´m quite happy about it. You like to hear the whole music? Go and buy the soundtrack albums (btw, there is no third installment) and support the composer and film music releases in general. Thanks. :)
@deancook652 That was a funny scene but they were actually discussing how to record with a vcr and not needing a TV to do it! It is a lot better than people give it credit for!
This is a lovely collection. Meanwhile, fading one track over another is fine but in future, please refrain from cutting off the end notes... Holy cow... Dude... Just... don't do that.
Just wondering; now that you've added commercials to this, I'd love to know what artistic and musical criteria you use to decide the exact points at which to insert them.
Yea, being broke doesn't allow for that. So I'll keep looking, thanks anyways. Actually, I can just rip the music from here. And yes, I know City Slickers 3 doesn't exist (sadly). I was making light of that.
Wow, how nice it is for you to say something like that but, at the same time. I would imagine that's really difficult for you to say since you don't know me as a person.
Does anyone know where I could find a download a torrent of this score, as well as the score for the second movie? Just like City Slickers 3, a torrent of them does not seem to exist.
One of the greatest comedies and philosophical films of all time. So glad my Dad showed this to me as a kid.
Great soundtrack, great movie, much deserved Oscar for Jack Palance. Really puts life in perspective, something many people need these days.

The music at 10:40 is brilliant. Can't help but cry at that point in the film. Fantastic score.
It really is a DAMN good score. Marc Shaiman did a helluva job on The Addams Family too.
happy tears 🥲

one of the best movies of all Time

The best music evokes feelings and this music makes me feel happy and sad at the same time. I love it!
One of the best of all time.
An homage to the soundtrack of the magnificent seven.

ahh, city slickers. What an amazing movie and soundtrack!

"There's nothin' like bringin' in a herd."
One of the best scores of all time - so funny that it's on such a goofy movie.
The last two and half minutes sum up the entire score & film marvelously

moderately successful? it has a 90% on rotten tomatoes. It won and was nominated for the Oscar's
one oscar for best supporting actor (jack palance)
Top-grossing comedy of 1991!
Westerns, comedy or otherwise, deserve great musical scores. The best of these in my opinion is the soundtrack to Lonesome Dove. This soundtrack, minus the silly fast stuff,
creates a nostalgia for a time and way of life long in the past.
Well put
Wish I could see the score for this brilliant music.
Great movie, I am watching on my tv
movie makes me cry
Makes me feel better about moving to Vegas thank you city slickers!

One thing is missing Jack Palance one arm push ups a silly melody for this ha ha .
....but don't ever forget the original, "Yahoo" scene and its music.
excelente....la mejor pelicula de cristal.....
some of these scenes were taken outside Colorado Springs, and Durango showing the Aspens, miss living there so much. Nice job putting this together
Great movie
GOOD POINT. KIND OF TRIP I NEED.
9:32…shoot that guitar sound into my soul
Looks Like Someone Didnt Know What The 1 Things Was.

I want CS3!
@Horizons1 there was never a City Slickers 3. only 1 & 2 fyi. Wish I had a copy of this score though. amazing.
Today is my 39th birthday. Who’s up for a cattle drive?
COULDN'T HAVE SAID IT BETTER.
@deancook652 That was a funny scene but they were actually discussing how to record with a vcr and not needing a TV to do it! It is a lot better than people give it credit for!
Anybody know the section of music that plays at 1hr 27mins when Phil and Ed split from Mitch?
Hey look comment #68...
NORMAN!
This is a lovely collection.
Meanwhile, fading one track over another is fine but in future, please refrain from cutting off the end notes... Holy cow... Dude... Just... don't do that.
1 thing just 1 thing
Curious.
Just wondering; now that you've added commercials to this,

my internet D/C at the last held note, i threw my laptop out the window
Yea, being broke doesn't allow for that. So I'll keep looking, thanks anyways. Actually, I can just rip the music from here. And yes, I know City Slickers 3 doesn't exist (sadly). I was making light of that.
I meant to type just "a torrent", not "a download a torrent".
Wow, how nice it is for you to say something like that but, at the same time. I would imagine that's really difficult for you to say since you don't know me as a person.
It's french roast. haha
and that's all I got to say about that.
8:27 and 9:57
How do I put this suite together? The OST is nothing like this. I wantto put this together with my own video for my collection.
Does anyone know where I could find a download a torrent of this score, as well as the score for the second movie? Just like City Slickers 3, a torrent of them does not seem to exist.
@SndOfSlnc I know there wasn't. Hence the joke about it not existing.
10:23 Anybody know the artist's name?
Jack Palance is Ukrainian? That's crazy.
Like 4:30 +
