Uhm, Jesus was Jewish and their sabbath is Saturday not Sunday, so they wouldn't have been in church on a Sunday. That's a gaping hole in Barnie's story.
Especially if you think about Sabbath being the day Jewish people are literally not allowed to work. So how would they be all busy that day? If he told it differently and did not mention that church thing he could have made it work but like that it is just funny because it is stupid xD.
This dialog is everything I like in HIMYM : - Barney tells brillantly... - ... an absurd story... - ... which turns out incredibly logical... - ... to justify a dailylife lesson... - ... which is not that much reliable in real life... - ... BUT it's incredibly funny to listen. DAMN... I miss HIMYM.
Barney is what's completely missing in HIMYF. There's no Barney to counter balance the what can be the overwrought romantic/dramedic moments in the show. Otherwise, the a show like this can suffer the Wonder Years effect!
The writers knew it felt unnatural for a funny character to make a joke and none of the characters around them laugh so they encouraged the actors to react appropriately and not be afraid to laugh if another character said something funny.
with their reactions it looks like he just improvised everything after "please stop talking". I wonder how they shoot this. Like.. if all actors always know what Barney was about to say, or if they just had cues so they give genuinely amused reactions. The actress playing Robin doesn't look like she's acting by the end, just laughing her ass off. That or her acting was that good lol..
Jesus came back to life after two days, he came back the third day ( that means after two days, when you say second day, it means tomorrow). Cruxified on Friday, resurrected on Sunday. And if you count hours, Friday evening and Sunday early morning, it was more like a day and a half.
In my opinion, you call or text 12 hours later in the early afternoon. It's just long enough for them to wait and keep thinking about you and you can easily turn that into a date in the afternoon. 12 hours.

Yep following afternoon. 3 days is brutal if there's something there. But gotta give yourself and the other person the time to settle and reflect upon the original encounter. Following day, closer to 18 hours than 12 ideally.
Wrong, wrong, wrong... you play your majestic game, give your number and wait for her to call, if she call it´s on ;) in the meanwhile fuc anyone else, that´s how life works.

18 hours I think. Next day is great, but if it was a late evening meet, then call/message first thing in the morning, it's still too aggressive. Each person needs a few real life hours to settle.
I am exactly like Ted... I met a beautiful girl and I text her the same night... I couldn't wait three days to talk with that woman... lucky me she was interested in me too...
As much as I love the show, I can definitely the writing had some glaring issues in the later seasons. That said, moments like these illustrate how the cast had such great chemistry that they could elevate show above the material they had to work with during it's weaker moments.
What's funny is he always proved barney wrong every time. The lesson was that people should like you for you. That's why he would dump them after getting his hopes up because they ended up not having the qualities he was looking for.
I've been watching How I Met Your Father and it is nowhere near as funny as the original. From this scene alone you can tell how much chemistry the cast has, the new show is missing that.

We have to admit, out of all the things Barney says, this is one of those which actually make sense
Well even the Mermaid Theory though... It's actually quite convincing of an Explanatory.

@Malcolm Nightshade Oh fuck no. He didn't invent Christianity. It was invented after his death by about 300 years. He was a Jew.
Jesus waiting to come back to life after 3 days has no connection at all for someone to wait 3 days to call. Awesome story tho :D

I thought Jesus was crucified on a Friday, so coming back to life required only 2 days.

He's basing his theory on a fairy tale, there's nothing logical about it
Love how the actors can't hold the laught.

I swear Barney is the best-written character in any TV show I have ever watched. NPH absolutely sold the role and it was legen-wait for it..

George Costanza
Many would argue the finale ruins his arc though. But overall I agree, especially in the early seasons he was an exceptionally well written character.
