I was a Supra MK3 owner. But I always admired the "pie wedge" styling of the Supra MK2. It was angular, but not as ugly as some of the other offerings like the Pontiac Fiero. (Ugly and slow unless you bought the V-6 GT model). And as for it's competition, well you could get a Camaro Z-28 for about the same price (14K in 1985). And while it had far worse build quality, it had a really powerful V-8 pushing 200 plus HP. So if you wanted a truly unique and high quality sports car in the 80s, I would have recommended either the Supra, Mazda RX-7, or the Datsun/Nissan 280ZX Turbo. The 280ZX Turbo was a bit faster than the Supra, but came at a premium due to the turbo and the infamous "bitching betty" voice system w/digital dash. Also, the 280 didn't handle quite as well as the Supra. Also the 280 Z "T-Top" roof was heavy and prone to leaking. But of all the choices? I would have loved to have a Supra MK2. Just the quality and unique styling alone.
This mk2 was my very first car back in the mid 90s when I got my drivers license. I owned 2 of these and this was the gateway towards my passion for the Supra. It is truly a shame thatToyota turned its back on us purists and decide to have BMW make a BMW Supra.
I loved my p type supra , till i got rid due to engine problems from last person who owned the vehichle. Had snap out on me when going around a round about , typical, but fun . I loved the car , mine was red with grey trim . Pop up headlights where cool , i also owned a mr2 around the same time. 1986 model. Ive always love Toyota sports cars . Owned 2 mr2 ,4 celicas,1 supra. I prefer the 80s cars. Wasnt fast but there great to drive and give alot of feel for the driver. Now i drive a boring honda civic 😢😢 . Ill probably end up buying a gt86 next , but would prefer a 79 celica gt or fastback. Great to see you do the supgra the justice it deserves.
