Thanks for introducing me to this! This has JUST the right amount of "gimmicks" (don't mean that in a bad way) while still being well built and super functional!
    Great video!😀

Thank you. It is an important item a lot of people don't think about. After over 30 years I just finally bought a power conditioner after we suffered a "Brown-Out " that fried a motor in my lathe, luckily my amps and other electronics weren't on at the time, but they would have fried as well.
A low power event can hurt just as much as a spike, so power conditioners and UPS devices will save $$$$ in that event.

    • @Loki6669Alpha
      @Loki6669Alpha 2 роки тому

Something to keep in mind “power conditioning” can mean any number of nebulous things. The only thing that can help with a brownout is a voltage regulator. UPSes contain voltage regulators but you have to be careful they reproduce a true sinewave output, not a stairstepped sinewave, for audio production use. You can also get voltage regulators without the battery backup and they will also include typical “power conditioning” features like RFI/EMI filtering and surge suppression. Furman makes rackmount voltage regulators and they are always more expensive than standard “power conditioners”.

Nice, but I like the longer 15 foot cord on the Furman. It takes up a smaller space in my cord & pedal case too.

One often overlooked item is what voltage your house/studio/etc is actually putting out. In the US we all assume it’s 120V, but it can actually vary widely and it doesn’t take much excess voltage to wear down your amp’s power tubes or transformers prematurely, especially if it’s a vintage/vintage-style amp. There are a couple of products out there that can help manage that sort of thing.

First time I paid real attention to your amp rack in awhile; Love the Dump Truck book and the Tick head persionalizations. I use mostly Rack mounted power conditioners(Furman & ART) to feed most of my gear and a couple computer focused UPS's to go between the wall and racks. My gear is home and studio, so I dont need to worry about transportable.

Love the design, but didn’t buy it because of no mention of RFI MFI filter on their website when looking when it was introduced. Did they come out with a new version?
I use other brands that claim rfi and mfi and they definitely make a difference. But sometimes add a dedicated Morley Hum Exterminator which gets rid of most speaker hiss on even the most finicky amps that usually have a loud hiss.
It’s adds cost for every amp and makes such a difference. More often using portable power supplies for areas with limited AC, shows in a parks, and that seems to work well. Wish I knew more about the electronics of power and what was really needed, as I often feel that I spend too much for things not needed.
    Thanks for another great video!

Thank you! My home studio's power conditioner works well. One of those D'Addarios seems well worth the cost. For a newbie who needs to buy a surge protecting power strip anyway, the real setback is just $36 - $15 = $21. Great deal for better protected gear and good noise reduction.

  • @andrediaz392

It looks SO MUCH like the generic power strip sold at home depot and big lots. But since it says daddario it's premium (bs) now. Side note; fender also began marketing a power strip that was identical to the Furman strip you mentioned here. I guess to cater to the leo fender purist needing a power strip akin to those available at any Walmart but with more vintage tonal qualities. Good topic though 👍(After initially posting this comment, I found the exact copy of this power strip on Amazon by a store named CRST. Different versions have USB outlets and a longer cord. Daddario is full of crap. By all means buy one especially if it helps Phil and this great channel to keep going. But let's call companies out for rebranding a product just for the sake of pandering to a certain market. Thank you Phil for everything you do 💯

Hey hey Phil... I'm a long time user of Furman Power Conditioners & Strips since the 80's, including that SS 6 brick... which I think is awesome since it's got a smaller footprint and great for my pedal board and amp for a smash gig... it's just is easier to transport inside my pedal board bag, but I also have that D'Addario one... very convenient outlet spacings... use it mostly in the studio... it's AWESOME! 😎🤘🎸

    • @Jihadbearzwithgunz

My issue with the daddario is lack of rmi and EMI filtering. Which can cause issues while doing shows as you'll have lights and other devices that will create extra noise in your amps and other sound equipment.

Nobody ever talks about it because it's not a guitar, or an amp. Who cares. Well, you should care because your power sourceis the most important thing in your chain. And Phil is right. Using a cheap power strip is the riskiest thing you can do (except for maybe standing in a puddle of water while plugged in). This is a case where price does matter. A step up is a conditioner that keeps your voltage constant.

    • @Thegamer12342

I never was really sold on those kind of power blocks, I run 2 rack mount power conditioners. A Carvin ac120s and ART power conditioner. I really like these as I noticed the noise floor dropped quite a bit on my amps and pedal board (powered by a Cioks DC7&8) all this made for a much quieter system for me. Any thoughts?
Love to see more of these videos, Cheers!

Enjoyed your video, but...As a retired IT and Electronics professional who has played guitar all my life, I feel obligated to warn you and the other people watching here that this power strip may protect equipment from a relatively slow power company surge, but it IS NO MATCH for anything fast like lightning or even a power company high voltage spike. (Those events are just too fast!). You have to pay much more than 40 bucks for power equipment that is specifically designed and rated to protect from an extremely fast surge or lightning. Fuses and breakers, once again, are just TOO SLOW...by the time they blow or trip your equipment is already fried. Also in most cases amplifiers, computers and other equipment already have electronics (surge suppression) built-in to protect the electronics from basic slow power surges...so slow surge protection is not normally a big issue. I highly suggest you and the other people using this channel first use common sense and shut down your equipment (or even unplug from the circuitry you are using unless you are an independently wealthy gambler and believe you can predict where lightning will flow during a direct or nearby strike. Personally, when I hear thunder I unplug or isolate everything I don't want fried, PERIOD. (In 71 years I have only had one piece of equipment fried and that was over 40 years ago...I learned the hard way, foolishly.)
