- In this video we work on a Vintage Air Install in a 1974 Plymouth Cuda. This classic car is getting cool air thanks to this Vintage Air AC Kit. Install went fairly smooth but his some major hurdles as well, check out this video to learn more!
I cannot confirm that your experience on your car will be exactly the same. This was a 1974 Plymouth Cuda with a 360 engine and Edelbrock heads. However to the best of my research the issues I had were common to people installing these parts and not just my scenario.

Any little bit will help me to make better quality content from SEMA 2018!
awesome vid! Thanks for sharing. Perfect timing as I am going to do one a '71 Cuda that had factory A/C. The engine currently is a. 6.1 Hemi
Glad it will be of some help!
The video was great. It helped me with the basics of installing a vintage air to my 73 challenger. Did you make any videos on how to wire it up?
Nice job, may have inspired me to do this one. Thx
Just watched your post on instal thank you for the heads up.im doing an intall on a 70 b body.just curious on how much time you spent i got to remove al the factory stuff .im thinkn on charging a flat rate to be fair to my customer because it will be my first go round..i also dont want to shoot myself in the foot. I run a small shop and do lots of performace type work, and regular a/c services.i appreciated your video
Buchelion performance in south carolina supplied me the brackets and sanden compressor.all else came from vintage air
Great job installing that.....personally, I'd not go with a kit that professes to be accurate that is that junky. These kits range from about $1500 to $2500....and for that price, it had better be good.
Agreed. The vast majority of cars I do, I just buy the AC unit from Vintage air and make my own hoses / mounts for them. I’m never satisfied with what VA supplies. They are making kits for Average Joe to install in their garage in a weekend. So it just doesn’t provide nearly the polish I’d like to see. Especially for the money.
@@HotRodHippie great video, where are you located? I would love to have you quote me an install for one of these kits. 74 Challenger.
Does the vintage air ac kit blow air harder than original?
Somewhere...in the Pine Barrens. Any Jersey Devil sightings around your shop?
I try not to be there after dark. haha
That shop is a buddy's place. I am up in Western Mass. We are good up here as long as no one goes into the Miskatonic University Restricted Library.
@@HotRodHippie we just moved from western mass in 2019. Now in the Tampa area
how do you measure hole in firewall for brackets
Instructions have a diagram showing the measurements off the fender apron and top of cowl / firewall.
Any video on how you installed the defrost ducts? I can't seem to figure out how the supplied ducts attach to my dash.
Nope can’t get a camera in there to see that for filming. I don’t remember for the life of me but I don’t think I replaced the defrost vents. Fairly sure I just plumbed the AC box to the old vents. But again, I don’t remember.
Your comment was three years ago, so my response will be fore someone else, but the supplied defrost ducts simply replace the factory ducts in the same location using the factory screws. Only difference is that the new ducts mount from under the threaded tabs, whereas the factory ducts sat on top of these tabs. This means that the screws (according to the instructions) face up, rather than down like they did originally.
Whoa
Hey there, I am working on a 1970 challenger and am planning on welding in holes on firewall. If you could answer this question, it will be helpful. Where is your evap drain routed through and where is your heater core drain routed through if there is one?
Evap and Heater core drains would be the same thing on a Vintage air system. Are you referring to on a car with a Vintage Air box? In that case you have to drill the hole in yourself, where you deem it best. So I cannot say where it will go for you.
@@HotRodHippie so is it safe to say that I can completely plug the firewall? Leaving only one access point which used to be where the blower motor was placed for the four lines that the vintage air box has, being the two heater core lines and the two evaporator lines and of course the one evap drain hole that I will be driling as necessary?
I would check the instructions for yourself. A few of the holes that mounted the original heated box are used for mounting the vintage air box. When I shave firewalls I make my own new mounting points inside the vehicle and don't use the Vintage Air recommended holes. But that is more work.
You can almost certainly shave quite a few holes and just leave the Blower hole and few bolt holes the kit needs.
@@HotRodHippie if you had to cut a square where the 4 lines go through the firewall what dimensions would you say those 4 lines take up? Maybe a 3.5 x 3.5 inch square? Leaving a half inch tolerance on the outside perimeter that surrounds the lines?
I'm sorry I cannot remember and I'm 200 miles away from the car.
Personally I would never do that type of work without having the parts on hand to measure as accurately as I can. No matter how hard I try, working without the parts always leads to something being wrong. Even if only a slight bit, still wrong.
thank you,,,,I am go for 69 Charger !
Dude you suck at making videos, this wouldn’t help anyone who needed help.
You are literally the only negative comment. I’m gonna guess I didn’t cover you one weird thing that you can’t figure out. So my video sucks. Right? Good luck with your project. I’ll keep making videos as my entire job. 👍🏻👍🏻
