  • I love Procreate, it's my favorite iPad app. In this video I talk about my favorite and possibly lesser known features and tools. Here is a sampling of things I cover:
    - Procreate's paint bucket feature
    - how to extend the length of time it takes for the eye dropper to appear
    - How to use brushes to make clean gradients
    - Drawing straight lines and lines at 90 of 45 degrees
    - Change video export quality
    - playing with the perspective grid

    You have answered literally every curiosity and every simple question I've had up until this point of learning the 'software.' The many tutorial series' I've watched from other people have been amazing in educating me on how to really use the program, but this video alone answered all of my unanswered questions in less than ten minutes easily. This is awesome. Thanks so much for making this! So helpful!

    DUDE, that perspective assist feature! That's sold me on picking up the add-on before the final release. The fact that it can be assigned to specific layers is absolutely key for me; one of my eternal issues with Photoshop is that the Snap feature is universal and never actually makes things do what I want them to. The fact that Procreate can restrict it to an individual layer is wonderful.

    • @p5rsona
      @p5rsona 8 років тому

      When will they make the damn perspective grid free?

    • @ToastAndJellyfish
      @ToastAndJellyfish 8 років тому +3

      OhMyBooda I don't know if it will be included as standard in a later release, but even if it isn't, the program and every single add-on would set you back what, $15? That's a staggering amount of value for very little money, given what Procreate can do and how attentive the creators are to updates and their users' needs. I've been playing with the perspective grid and it's awesome, more than worth the pittance they're asking.
      You have two options: pay a measly $2, or continue your entitled whining about it not being free.

    • @p5rsona
      @p5rsona 8 років тому

      ToastAndJellyfish
      Its just very dishonest of them I find. The app isnt cheap for an app even though its a great app. Why not make the beta program free like most other companies?

    • @ToastAndJellyfish
      @ToastAndJellyfish 8 років тому +17

      OhMyBooda How is it in any way, shape, or form, dishonest? They're not saying that they'll give you something, taking your money, and then not giving you anything.
      The perspective grid will be included for free in the next major update, it looks like, but I'm happy to throw them $2 to help fund further developments and use the feature sooner rather than later. Kind of like how I pay more to have something shipped to me faster. If you want it for free, you have to wait longer.
      The base app is already insanely cheap at $6. It could easily sell for much more, but instead it's being kept affordable, which is wonderful. You get a fully functional app and have the opportunity to expand functionality with things like extra brushes, things that not everyone wants or needs, for a nominal cost. It's one of the few instances I can think of where in-app purchases are implemented correctly. The add-ons are nice things to have but you are in no way hobbled without them. (You know what sucks having to pay for? Layers.) They could easily have offered the perspective features as an add-on, period.
      Sometimes you have to pay for the little extras that you want, like toppings for your ice cream or early access to a perspective grid for an art app. Welcome to the real world. Get used to it.

    Brad. Thanks for doing this video. I downloaded the app, went to UA-cam, watched this video, clicked on the description, bought the course and have watched it non-stop. I have seldom felt more prepared for using a new tool. You remind me of Karl Taylor who teaches photography in a similar style. Somehow you start with the most basic functions without ever talking down or letting the pace slip up. Well done.

    The way I do gradients is by laying down the colours in my gradient (eg. Dark Blue, Mid tone blue, Light blue) in the selected area and then turn the Gaussian Blur up to the level I want. This works best for a background, but works on other things too.

    Great vid dealing with something I use everyday too. A couple of things to mention: 1. Once drawing a straight line go to the arrow select tool and it becomes editable with two node points. Very useful. 2. When filling with a paint bucket watch out for a tiny unfilled artifact between the two areas - often missed but needs going over if you want a perfect join. 3. Okay another: the merge layers thing is so fiddly - i think you picked up on this in how you talked about it - I always go for a single tap on the layer above and 'merge down'.
