Great mission, one of GR's best! What made it work (for me): 1) Mission had different phases, different challenges in each. The takeoff, navigation to ingress, the botched rescue, then the tense canyon run. The navigation across the "Channel" with Aunty calling out fuel and distance as German fighters were gathering was surprisingly tense. 2) Multicrew. Cap and Aunty made a great team, and it really added to the "you are there" to hear the tension in their voices and hear the fuel numbers falling, Cap asking Aunty to check for enemy fighters etc. The only thing that didn't work was 3) Suicidal Pilots. I was really glad when Aunty convinced Cap to drop bombs rather than kamikazing, and it was a bummer the German pilots kept suicide charging the Mosquitos. Really removed the immersion and the tension if everyone is treating is just a game with no regard for their virtual lives. Hope to see more like this!
Nice, yeah that’s the kind of thing I was going for, this one was incredibly hard to judge getting the balance right so that all of the objectives were complete but with heavy losses to blue, the ramming threw in some unexpected advantages for Red but blues just scraped through but the skin of their teeth and of course somehow it was Cap completing both objectives. The mission was nearly lost several times but you can’t kill a squadron!
I feel like I just watched a war movie. Yo. That shot during the dogfight at 27:00 with the flaming fighter in the foreground and the Spitfire flying above was nothing short of cinema.
Epic. I think i have seen this movie before. A prison breakout. Arty serving as an R2 unit working damage control and navigation. A trench run. A voice telling Cap to trust his feelings. A bandit on the tail of the attack runner giving only one chance to hit. No target computers. A small target to bomb. Having to pull up at the last moment after successfully hitting the target. Truly a NEW HOPE.
Actually, New Hope was inspired by similar movie: The Dambusters. 633th Squadron is similar, but the inspiration came from the Lancasters destroying the Rurh dams
@@FildasKirk As the VV (named onscreen) who first called in the Op; the son of a TV/cinema industry professional of some significance (i.e. he has a Wikipedia page), active at he time, in the same general milieu as many of the production staff of both '633 Squadron' and subsequently also 'Star Wars' (as it used to be called, back when C3P0 had TWO gold legs), allow me to comment on this. While I grant that the (print and broadcast) MSM introduction of S/Wars to the generally-unaware general public, named the (lowest commonly-known historical denominator) 'Dam Busters' raid as being the movie's principal inspiration (discounting Edgar Rice Burroughs' long pre-existing 'John Carter of Mars' stories, of course, with all their exotic alien princesses and diversely bizarre characters, facing-off against overbearing warmongering tyrants, on a planet, a while back, and more than a little distance away; which of course had nothing at all to do with it), it both was (at the time, to those 'in the trade' as it were) and remains obvious to anyone familiar with both movies, today, that (as George Lucas himself admitted) the climactic 'trench run' under heavy ground-fire was not merely 'inspired by' but was more or less an exact steal from '633 Squadron's suicidally-heroic do-or-die attack through the Norwegian fjord.
The one remaing pilot from Alpha flight jinking that BF 109 for so long with a mangled plane was just amazing! And then to be taken out like that. Great mission
One of the best ones. I think the valley ones like this and the Firefox one are my two favorites. I chuckled when the briefing mentioned hitting the 3 tanks and both strafing runs focused on the pillbox.. and good AI. Having a 109 clip the wing of the mosquito when they were so close.
Great mission and great ending. I loved the juxtaposition of Spacechef getting shot to pieces while you, Aunty, and Mr. Pickles are sharing a dram, lol. I nearly spit out my coffee.
That was like the greatest war movie I ever saw!! It's amazing what unforeseen events emerge from these simulations. I cheered when Cap hit the target! I groaned when he was tailgated by that bogey one second later!! Excuse me while I rewatch 633 Squadron.
OMG guys! This is the most exiting thing I have seen in the 'tube in a long while. Thank you so much for this. Absolutely emotionally invested in this mission. Thank you, thank you!!!!
THAT MY FRIENDS WAS EXCELLENT! I loved the story line, and the graphics, as well as the slow motion video footage of some of the shoot downs of enemy aircraft and artillery! FANTASTIC GUYS, PUT OUT MORE LIKE THIS!
Nice sacrifice Damp. Great teamwork. This is one for the record books guys. One of the most fun videos I have seen on the Tube. I can't stop commenting! lol
This movie was actually shot in Scotland. My father flew the B-25 camera ship after the Mosquitos and into the same valley. He did all the aerial filming with a camera in each wing tip, nose and tail. The B-25 is at Duxford. Probably used as spares..
Nothing short of magnificent. Good content, well chosen target, some good flying and ground attack from all and some wntertaining banter. You could make a movie out of this material!!!
that was great it was like watching a film listening to the radio chatter was great you guys work well together lot of fun to watch keep up the good work👍
47:49 Wow couldn't bring him down with canon so Kamikazied his ass just at the last moment- and that edge of the seat last gasp run by Cap and Aunty totally ass clenchinly epikk! Bomber Command salutes all your sacrifices! keep it up guys
Needs more "Jolly good." 😄 The understated, calm-as-a-cucumber-sandwich RAF radio calls are always mind-blowing when you consider the mortal danger they were in!
That was fun and exciting! Sort of irony in the original movie script writing, of all the nefarious manufacturing activities the 633rd could've put an end to, the writer choose V2 fuel - which was 75% ABW ethanol. The gallant pilots took down a brewery.
7I05 battle was epic!! Felt sorry for as it took ramming from the Butcher Bird to finally bring it down,....within metres from the target. Id feel jipped indeed. Cracking mission though.
It was pretty awesome to watch the teamwork in the mozzie's Damp may have lasted longer if he had a nav man aswell, Cap n Aunty great flying, and communication on point and was a good mission to watch and what an ending!
Supplementary thought about Mosquitos - Does DCS model a Mosquito 'Tetse' Mark XVIII variant? The one with the BMG for ship killing. That'd be an exciting one to see - could Tetses stop the ardennes offensive, or something. Like an early A10 mission but with a graceful aircraft. I also had the great fortune to vaguely know Group Captain Smith, of 'Operation Jericho' fame. Might you consider doing more Mossie missions like Jericho or The raid on the Gestapo HQ in Copenhagen?
41:12 The tailwheel damage was from braking too hard on the landing/taxiing, the tail lifting, then slamming back down when you ease off. I've only managed one landing where I didn't damage the tailwheel strut. Though I haven't needed to take off again with it damaged. Around 43:00 I don't think Cap has managed to get any Star Wars references yet. 48:57 The alarm sounds when the throttle is below a certain level with the wheels up.
Full reenactment of the book would have required simulated drinking in the mess and several low level passes over members of the WRAF. But I guess that's for another time. Awesome stuff Dambusters next presumably
Cap would you Please stay just a bit farther away from your lead plane? It's giving me anxiety how close you fly, LOL. And BTW, this was seriously better than the movie. Thanks for sharing this with us!
That was nothing short of an excellent, edge-of-your-seat, action adventure movie. Outstanding work guys!
Watching all your older videos and have to say this was by far my favorite. That was actually cinematic.

i agree. Suiciding is fine in the more casual missions but when everyone starts doing it always, it kind of takes away from the realism.
This. The suiciding really took away from an otherwise excellent mission.
That is a seriously impressive landing at 33:00. Cap certainly doesn't mention it enough, but he is one of the best "seat of his pants" flyers around!
got to be good at something...
I feel like I just watched a war movie. Yo. That shot during the dogfight at 27:00 with the flaming fighter in the foreground and the Spitfire flying above was nothing short of cinema.
What an incredible job of flying that shot up Squito being chased by I think TWO 190s. ALMOST made it.
*Hands down my favorite mission....well done, boys!*
Had the 633 squadron music on during Caps canyon run. Got quite emotional! :) Great mission.
nice

I was just about to mention the strong star wars vibe...awesome!!!
Yep - Lucas ripped every decent movie moment that came before... including Tarzan and Jane. I thought everyone knew that :)

Thank you for recreating a favorite film from my childhood! This is awesome! Thanks!
Thanks!
The one remaing pilot from Alpha flight jinking that BF 109 for so long with a mangled plane was just amazing! And then to be taken out like that. Great mission
Wow what a great mission. Very cinematic, action packed, and very butt-clenching EPIC ending!! Love these things, it's what got me into DCS!

Always listen to the brief! 😁
Absolutely brilliant, what a ride. With the Mosquito too. Loved the comms. Good on ya, blokes.
Man this is just so good. I threw this up on my 65"tv and kicked back. Just brilliant. So so good. More more.
Awesome shit! The multi-crew comms, great angles/shots in Cap’s editing, that prison landing, and a baller-ass ending! 😎🤙🏻
"Take THAT you pesky 190!" 47:51
All in all, undoubtly THE MOST rivetting reenactment so far, GR!!
Great mission and great ending. I loved the juxtaposition of Spacechef getting shot to pieces while you, Aunty, and Mr. Pickles are sharing a dram, lol. I nearly spit out my coffee.
And very nice Star Wars briefing there ;)
That was like the greatest war movie I ever saw!! It's amazing what unforeseen events emerge from these simulations. I cheered when Cap hit the target! I groaned when he was tailgated by that bogey one second later!! Excuse me while I rewatch 633 Squadron.
I love these re-enactments.
OMG guys! This is the most exiting thing I have seen in the 'tube in a long while. Thank you so much for this. Absolutely emotionally invested in this mission. Thank you, thank you!!!!
Love the seat of the pants flying you get in WW2 planes, and what an ending! Truly excellent work all round.
My family thinks I'm nuts cheering at that finish, especially when I went berserk cursing when the German kamikazed Cap just over the ridge.
Amazing... Edge of the seat editing.
Wow
THAT MY FRIENDS WAS EXCELLENT! I loved the story line, and the graphics, as well as the slow motion video footage of some of the shoot downs of enemy aircraft and artillery! FANTASTIC GUYS, PUT OUT MORE LIKE THIS!
Terrific editing. I thought I was watching a Lee Marvin movie.
That was easily one of the more exciting DCS missions I've watched. Well done!
Missions like these make my sat morning, my son and I were gripped. Awesome. More missions like this definitely.
This was super fun :)
Nice sacrifice Damp. Great teamwork. This is one for the record books guys. One of the most fun videos I have seen on the Tube. I can't stop commenting! lol

Wow! Congrats in the coolest mission in a long time, Cap!
Yeh that was fun yo.
Absolutely cinematic.
That was amazing. Knowing the story behind the mission made it even better.
Superb better than any film....
Simply Awesome!!! and what a climactic finale, this must have been the best yet. Brilliant.
Grim Reapers is my Saturday morning cartoons. Great video guys.
Thrilling! A joy to watch.
That was so fun to watch - awesome mission, guys
47:49 Wow couldn't bring him down with canon so Kamikazied his ass just at the last moment- and that edge of the seat last gasp run by Cap and Aunty totally ass clenchinly epikk! Bomber Command salutes all your sacrifices! keep it up guys
Just finished the book!!! Man has it made learning the Mossie even more enjoyable.. can’t wait for some good campaigns.
Whoa that finish! Legendary. Loved the banter, great team.
That was better than the actual movie! Nice editing men!
Needs more "Jolly good." 😄
The understated, calm-as-a-cucumber-sandwich RAF radio calls are always mind-blowing when you consider the mortal danger they were in!
Amazing, amount of great movie references from Caps navs that went like epic tumbleweed 😂
Good job, boys. That was magnificent!
That was fun and exciting! Sort of irony in the original movie script writing, of all the nefarious manufacturing activities the 633rd could've put an end to, the writer choose V2 fuel - which was 75% ABW ethanol. The gallant pilots took down a brewery.
Best mission ever!...and an ending with a twist!
That was EPIC, what a watch, thank you.
Best one yet!
Excellent job, really enjoyed that.
Outstanding pure gold
my favourite bit was where they killed the thing
06:05 Ha! Nice long play on the Rebels attack plan on the Death Star! XD
😉
Humming the 633 Squadron theme.
Great vid.
Piece of cake!
Great flying guys!
Really excellent, more exciting than many movies !
That... was... amazing...

Another great watch to the end mission....medals all round mutley
47:54 that was kamikaze crash !
That was legitimately more tense than the actual movie.

Brilliant! VC’s for Caps crew and the two guys that fought the hell out of that 190!
best mission ever!! radio chatter, editing, awesome!
Very enjoyable. Thanks for all your hard work!
Great mission, thanks for all the effort Bendy!! 👍
Great mission (heavily influenced by Star Wars maybe....?😉), and nice editing work as well. Kudos
That's all you need , 'Gillibrand' here saying 'i don't know if I remember how to fly this'!!!!
Damn, That was an awesome video, Way to Go Super Cap & Co-pilot
Outstanding mission guys. Well done.
Some gorgeous editing in the last couple videos.
That was really impressive. With enertainment like this you never want to turn on your TV. Except to get bad news.
Simply epic!
This was the BEST AND COOLEST mission from GR EVER!!!!, woooooow 👏👏👏
Just came across this vid absolutely brilliant! What SIM is this?
dcs
Fantastic action! Seriously thinking about starting with DCS now.
What I've wanted to know for a long time is that the missions presented here can be downloaded somewhere
41:12 The tailwheel damage was from braking too hard on the landing/taxiing, the tail lifting, then slamming back down when you ease off.
I've only managed one landing where I didn't damage the tailwheel strut. Though I haven't needed to take off again with it damaged.

Killed target, cleared the hill then smashed by a face
Awesome mission guys!
Great flight... Love it
Well done Cap and Auntie! VC for both of you,
yay!
Full reenactment of the book would have required simulated drinking in the mess and several low level passes over members of the WRAF. But I guess that's for another time.
Awesome stuff Dambusters next presumably
Kept waiting for Hoppy Hopkinson to be mentioned, and A-Apple and the other callsigns
That. Was. Awesome.
Cap would you Please stay just a bit farther away from your lead plane? It's giving me anxiety how close you fly, LOL. And BTW, this was seriously better than the movie. Thanks for sharing this with us!
Exciting from beginning to end...Great vid!...
That was FUN!!!
"You can't kill a squadron."
Great finish
That was a lot to see! :) Thanks GR!
