Love your vids, great entertainment. Funniest is when something goes wrong and Cap says he'll cut it out but never does. Just keep doing what your doing.
The v2 was filled with 75% alcohol, which is like 151 rum. And liquid oxygen. Way ahead of it's time. We are still trying to work out the details. They were aimed and steered without computers or satellites.
Lol most the details are well figured out and understood. They were guided via advanced gyroscopes, and one that cutoff the motor at a specific time. Germans were ahead in alot of electric devices, they were able to fuselage mount there weapons on most of there fighters and have behind prop guns, normally the us would shy away from that approach because you lose 25-40% rate of fire, the germans had a electric switch they came up with that cut this down to 5-10% max. They also inverted there v-12 engines inside there fighters, and the entire airframe was built around it being flipped, look at a dora from the rear, its wider on the bottom and comes to a point at the top like a pyramid, making the bottom of the figther smooth, this is something we actually didnt start paying attention to until gen 5 fighters, the advantages of a smooth underside, same with the bf 109s they were inverted aswell. Inverting the v-12s has advantages we didnt realize until years later, inverting them changes the gravity propertys and where things pool up inside the cylinders and everything, having it inverted had alot of advantages. But they also never really developed second stage cooler, like the merlin had. They relied on the mw50 alot, the mw50 also reduced the knock in the jumos. One of germanys earliest targets when bombing britain was a merlin factory, but luckily it never ended up getting hit. They luckily countered the germans radar just in time.
@@5peciesunkn0wn Yeah, thats a big advantage, but i dont think the germans would design the entire body of a fighter around a flipped v-12 just because of ease of maintenane alone, maybe it started out like that in the early bf109s, but by the time the dora came out, its pretty clear they realized its advantages. Having a smooth underside i forgot to mention earlier helps with angle of attack, and aero wise helps all around. But the main issue with the jumos and the german engines was, for some reason they were 3 valve per cylinder, rather than 4, like we used. Now its clear they figured out 4 was the way to go, but they never got around to engineering it out. The dora was also supposed to come with a rubber spacer, that helped alot that didnt end up getting put in the production models, kurt tank was pretty mad about this when he found out. But i think the d-13s had the rubber part, and they also had hydrolic ailerons, giving the d-13s the rollrate of the antons, d-9s already had a good roll rate, the best way to beat a mustang in a dora is by nose countering, and using heavy rolling and rolling feints, i would pretend to cut left and roll into a split S, do things like that. Alot of quick moves like that a mustang cant follow and will overshoot. And like 1-2 shots from the 20mm the mustangs done. Mustangs it seems can get beaten up from the rear alot worse than other fighters because of the 2 stage aftercooler. I get into alot of arguments about this next statement, but the Mustang was never built to 1v1 any specific fighter.
@@profo4544 Well yeah, obviously they realized the advantages later lol. But at the start, it was far easier to shape the hull (chassis? body?) of the plane to the contours of the engine than try making a smooth reversal of the shape.
This is SO much better because of all of ya'lls wacky all-over-the-place British accents :D Bonus points to that one guy with 1940s voice acting and 1940 mic distortion..
IIRC, the P-38 and Mosquito have roughly the same top speed, but the P-38 can't maintain it as long. I read somewhere that P-38 pilots were ordered not to race Mosquitos - I assume it's because the only way they could beat the Mosquito is to use WEP and potentially do damage.
Hard deck my ass! That's some of the best flying I seen yet, right up to the point you got killed. Never leave your wingman. Get your ass out of that flight gear and into Vipers office!
I'm new to IL-2....Is this a mission that comes with the program, or is a mod that can be downloaded as separate file and then played in game? I love the "canyons" and can't find a single player instant action type that involves the Kuban map mountains section.
I think CAP has 9 lives (LIKE A CAT) I love these IL2 missions, but it may have been better to have split the forces and have half the force come in from the opposite direction. Just my humble opinion !!!
Ahh, see that's what the RAF needed were some "Engine flares" so the Flack Cannon's in occupied territories would ignore them, thinking they're going down. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤦♂️
I believe I'd prefer to fly that mission in P-38s with 4) 20 mm cannons fitted in the nose. I think the mosquitos carry a greater bomb yield but wouldn't the greater speed and ability to survive damage of the lightning come in handy while evading AA? P.S. not a gamer.
Quite literally 5 or 6 minutes before you lot mentioned it I was like this is IL-2. Why hasn't one of you grabbed a fricking Tempest? If they can switch to single engined fighters why have you lot not done it? Cap - have strong words about fighting fire with fire. Please.

The ones he does, we don't know about....
@@Thisandthat8908 I think Grumpmeister puts that on his channel
Cap got hit! My copilot is dead! Cap got hit again, I'm on fire!!! The copilot wakes up???
Grim Reapers!
Yeh bit strange...
I'm invincible!!! Name that Bond movie.
@@Michael-rg7mx Golden Eye?
Thanks lads... Always awesome to watch these missions.
Love the banter,I’m 52 and still do this with my boys. 🇨🇦 Vet
Now THAT was good. Love IL-2; thanks guys.
This whole time we thought GR stood for grim reapers. It really meant gentleman's relish.
erm
As soon as I read the title it brought back an old earworm.
The theme for 633 Squadron was way better than the Dambusters.
12:20 Machine gun just magically floats to the rear gunner lol
Gotta love the damage model (and engine management) in IL2 in my experience the best WW2 sim ever
agree
This 100%
Yay! My morning just get better again!

Gyros. Accuracy of 10s of miles!
@@profo4544 Well, the original reason for flipping the V-12 was ease of maintenance lol

Love the Star Wars references! Stay on target!
I really think you guys should attach clothes pegs to your noses when flying WWII aircraft: it would sound more ‘period’ and realistic.

for immersion!

Freakin’ scary, hilarious and exhilarating all at the same time, cheers Folks!
43 minutes of goodness. Tough mission. Fun to watch.
Bold strategy flying with landing lights on the whole time
Should have had a couple of Mustangs following along behind to take care of e/a.
Very cool mission . thx GR
All those Mozzy guys forgetting the destroyer 88’s and 219’s “could” be more than a match.
These always seem to turn into revenge dog fights, no matter the "mission" LOL

Stay on Target
Your co-pilot is Ewan MacGregor!!!
Didn’t your aircraft have an engine fire extinguisher?
Neg, that would just add weight.
Yes!
How are you flying Mosquitos? BoN is still on pre-order?
3:30 you should have added some clown music to complete the scene
The suicidal bit isn't just the take-off is it?
Don't do slow loops over the target, it is a recipe for disaster. Instead: disengage and recommence the attack run from another angle.
Cap your co-pilot looks the same alive or dead😂😂🇨🇦
poker face
Brilliant Entertainment

Just wondering - is the fire extinguisher modelled in IL2 on the Mossy? That said fire in a wooden aircraft...
Can you reenact the bombing of Dresden?
Snowy Mountains?
What Map is this?
The 633 squadron attack run? The scene George Lucas definitely DID NOT steal for Star Wars.

Why go in at a low level? The MOssie had a better performance at med to high level, and you wouild be able to defend better against fighters

how do people watch 43 minutes of the unedited garbage. Like seriously there's almost zero production quality
I hope DCS or IL-2 introduce the small bouncing bomb for the mosquitos, while i know it was never operational it'd be interesting to see people use
