I'm amazed that this isn't being marketed to folks who are just too busy to read all the books they have (99% of people with books I would guess). I'm willing to listen to robot voice if it means I can get through my library while doing arts, crafts, chores, etc!

The voice on Microsoft Word's Read Aloud feature (UK female) is the most realistic when reading I've heard. If all these readers sounded like that, and not a robot, I'd be sold!

I don’t know how much this cost but I too was thinking that the voice was entirely too robotic; there is absolutely no way I could listen to this for any prolonged length of time lol.

I totally agree on that one! More devices for the blind are coming out recently. I think there was one device where it used the eloquence voice, but I'm not sure. There most likely is, 98% chance there is. I'm only just wondering if there really is an ocr scanner like this one that actually uses the Eloquence voice. Wouldn't be surprised if there was!

I realize there's R&D involved in the pricing, but let's hope they find it in their hearts to do the right thing, and stop expecting insurance companies, and rehab organizations to just pay whatever they demand, going forward. They've got to work on their prices. Granted this is a new product, and as with any new tech, it's going to be expensive. However, I've seen Veetechs, and Jordis still costing over 2, and 3 thousand dollars, over a quarter century after release, which is criminal.
That aside, I think this device is a marvelous bit of tech, and will enable students, and professionals to get more done, in more places. I have a couple of books which are not available as talking book, or even Audible format. It would've taken months to scan one of those books in on the old flatbed scanner, connected to a PC, running Openbook twenty years ago. Would've taken even longer, on the Kurzweil Reader.
I do think the manufacturer needs to tweak the design to make the unit even more compact so it complies with carryon restrictions of airlines, but I feel that will come, in time, not that it's not already fairly small, as is. But there's room for further enhancement in the bulk area.
That battery life is very welcome.
I'm guessing the HDMI port could indicate the possibility of being able to cast the video or imagery taken by the device over to a monitor, hopefully. Could just be for running audio onto a monitor, too. Not sure.
Anyway, I greatly appreciate you presenting this device.

Would be nice if you could actually make a full video of how it actually works and what were the learning curves for placing documents on the device and so on that would be great advice for people who are completely blind and cannot see with more detailed descriptions of left and right and what’s in front of the other descriptions!

Great tour. Two questions: 1. What audio format are the USB files saved to (MP3, WAV)? 2. Is there an option to save the scanned material as text only for use in a word processor? This could make the device a great tool for students and overly organized people like me. Thanks for the introduction to this product Sam.

I like that as well. I use zoom a lot but I’d prefer using OCR to save me time and eye strain. Technology for the blind is costly. Purchasing an item like this would require a credit card and months of payment if that’s all that’s on there. Companies know the government will be their largest purchasers. It’s like government contractors on a military base. There is such thing as the thousand dollar screw.

Great review! I would be interested to see a demonstration of the Reading feature after scanning to the Flash drive. Specifically, I wonder how seemlessly it would move from page to page if you scanned an entire book but. I'm also curious about how easily you can move around and in scant pages within the Flash drive. Also, is the Scan content Readable only on the device or can it be moved to a different device that can read OCR? Thanks again

I have some neurological issues that complicate my learning and memory, so it's nice that this Lyriq is so straightforward and no effort, things that I'm curious about like food packaging has become part of the world I find too much effort right now to try and engage with.

@Jitendra Dkhar yes, it is true that here in the US we have mini things available that would make the lives of blind and visually impaired people‘s lives better however, only the rich blind folks can’t afford them lol. So it makes me wonder who exactly they are creating this technology for because it is not your every day blind person!!! by the way, I saw the Habel one featured on the American printing house channel and I must say it was truly amazing so I think I’m going to order one it is only $250 and would make using my smart phone much faster on the fly. sorry, if you don’t already know that the Device was developed in your country lol.

For people who already use assistive devices I could use some input. I have myopic macular degeneration. It seems like each device offer something different For example Iris Vision. would allow me to see things that distance and to read but it’s more bulky. The Orkan which is much smaller wouldn’t really help me see faces or get my bearings. I only have a certain amount of money I’m able to spend. And I’m having a really difficult time trying to decide which would be the best avenue for me to follow. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

I don’t understand why you have to pay extra for the keyboard for all these devices. It strikes me that many of these manufacturers are deliberately charging extra for a pretty essential part of the device. You at least get basic wheels when you buy a car, not sure how people would react if they had to pay extra for those. You cannot save documents without the keyboard, and how many people actually want to read their mail and not be able to save any of it to refer to later? I cannot find a distributor for this device in the UK, and whilst of course it’s not your job to be able to answer those questions, it’s sometimes very frustrating that what appear to be great devices are not available worldwide.

Do you ever complain about the prices? This thing cost two grand. That which apparently you don’t agree is totally ridiculous. I am 58 years old. I am legally blind. I have very minimal vision. Watching these videos which I knew better than to watch this video because I would be way more mad now than I am. I got lucky I got a reader that is about the size of a cell phone and it cost $950.00 If it wasn’t for Cathy from blind services, I would’ve had to pay that. There is no way they’re gonna allow me to have this reader for free, I would’ve been willing to pay at least half the cost of that reader I got, but like I said, I got lucky and it came to me, Free. another question I have why do they make them so cheap? You pay $1000 for a reader with hardly no technology in it at all and if there is technology in it it’s any good it’s the lowest quality of technology I buy cell phones that do 100 more things and only have to pay two 300 bucks for it. What the hell is that all about? I think you should bring this up on your show this is totally ridiculous. I have nothing against you. I have nothing against your videos. I love your channel your channel helps me so much, but when junk like this comes out and I know it has hardly any good technology in it. It might be good technology. It’s just cheap very cheap the lowest technology. Dude, you gotta know this Hass to be fixed. I’d like to hear some more complaining about it if I could.
You have an awesome day sorry about being so upset but it makes me mad when people try ripping handicap people off it’s ridiculous and then instead of complaining or doing something about it a lot of people just go with the flow. I know you know exactly what I mean! No, don’t get me wrong here. I’m not blaming you for ripping people off. I am blaming the companies that build these products these cheap products!!!
