Why do I get the feeling that Mother 3 is Nintendo's Metarex Saga?
Wizardry is massively important from a historical standpoint. It's translation into Japanese (along with Ultima) was what introduced Japan to the concept of RPGs, and they were huge influences on pioneering titles like Legend of Heroes and Dragon Quest. Simply put, without Wizardry you don't get JRPGs (and without Dungeons & Dragons you don't get Wizardry, but that's beside the point).
If you didn’t say this, I was going to. The impact Wizardry and Ultima had on the JRPG scene is immeasurable. And there are multiple Wizardry games that got developed by Japanese developers after Sir-Tech died, but are just as brutal as the original!
Whaat? David cosplaying as Sabin is so perfect. I'm glad David is speaking out against Atlus's greed releasing paid DLC on day 1. I am hesitant to buy any of their games now because they always come out with an enhanced/definitive version a year or two later. The last Persona games have been like that and SMT is getting the same treatment now as well.

The release date 📅 for SMT5 Vengeance is wrong for all platforms. The game release date 📅 has been pushed up to June 14th. Probably because of the new dlc expansion for Eldin Ring is launching on the 21st.

Eiyuden Chronicles needs a patch to make magic not completely worthless.

Trust me it’s not that worthless, in the mid to the late game, there’s some powerful wizard with high magic stat that deals good magic damage with good rune.
@velodricfabre6779 I have not found any point where magic has been better than just using standard physical attacks. Even combined attacks are worse off than just using 2 separate attacks. The numbers don't make sense.
And with magic characters being mostly inferior statistically, MP only being able to be restored in limited ways/areas, magic characters are and the investment it takes magic characters just to get on par with others, it feels like nobody tested the numbers in this game.
Maybe in hard mode they have some use, but it should not be so extremely limited in the first place.
@@corey2232In general I have every character on my team have the water rune and they are all my healers when needed. Then I have Geiran as my Mage who uses spells that make everyone immune to damage for a turn and light runes that raise the attack power for everyone. A buffed up Yusuke can do up to 1.6k damage with two charges and attack buff. Without the attack buff 2 charges does about 800 to 1k damage. Iugo's slash rune benefits a lot from attack buffs too.
The magic that damages enemies is relatively weak compared to physical damage except if the enemy is weak to them.
But magic buffs and debuffs are awesome. I sleep through bosses at this point.
Atlus will keep releasing day 1 DLC because stupid people buy it, if they were not making money they wouldnt bother.
Magic is ok in its your primary sources of both healing and hitting entire crowds of enemies at once but yeah the dungeons tend to be long and battle laden so it's just not a positive to have too many as MP is a nuisance to manage as you can't really restore it easily and items to do so ain't really on hand to buy either.
Amazing news and amazingly delivered as always! P.S. The shade that Larian threw at the games industry in their DICE speech was just unrivaled.
The paid dlc stuff for SMTV-V is another big reason why people are fed up with this atlus style of releasing a game and then rereleasing it years later.I could see if they said hey we have some ideas for DLC that will be coming a year later or w/e.
Metaphor looks freaking fantastic. I want the collectors edition but 150 vs 70.. I can get 2 games or the one collectors edition. The only game I've ever gotten a collector edition for was Arc the Lad.

Going to pick up class of heroes. debating if i want to get it on PS5 or switch. Leaning towards switch as games like that and Etrian Odyssey are great on hand held mode to just lay in bed and putz.
This practice is why I never buy the initial version of Atlus games and I skip the DLC because it is almost always cosmetics and adds nothing meaningful...I do miss the days when games were released in full and day one DLC wasn't a thing.
Better getting it on Switch you can get them separate digital for cheaper (and a sale right now till next friday) and this is a game your best to have handheld (played both back on the PSP preferred the 2nd one, so I'm getting that one for my switch next week) and frankly DMC3 is also on sale so I can get both for super cheap😊
But take my advice. Get it on your switch!
People say they are fed up but they aren't. They're gonna keep buying the games and honestly i'm fine with the practice. Releasing a game, then going back to the product and improving it and adding new stuff is different than withholding stuff already made for a future release. Video games are cheap and they want more money like everyone else.

you say theyre fed up but if it was hurting their bottom line they would stop it. people make the mistake of seeing very vocal people online represent the majority when that's not the case. Also absolutely do not get this on Switch if you have any other options. It does not run or look super great. At least the original releases didn't. I owned it, and it's playable but it constantly felt choppy.

The only way people are going to get the message that Day one DLC isn't good is if people stop buying it. Just do what I do wait for a sale and hold off until then.
great to hear fixing up the localization of Eiyuden chronicles however any news on fixing the switch version of the game and how it runs ? I prefer to play this type of game on portable devices and seen current reviews for the switch they can recommend it

Also, Wizardry 1-5 is available translated to English and with pretty much the same features as the one in development for PS1. 6 and 7 are available for Saturn but still in Japanese. The PS1 version has some decent bg music if you're into that sort of thing but it's the same games, offering two versions of Wizardry IV.
Wizardry announcement was totally unexpected. It looks familiar. I might have played it on an Apple 2 back in the '80s to be honest. Totally wish list!

when I was little I was always told the plural for octopus is octopi but in more recent internet years I have heard that that was not correct. I don't know the exact reason but it has something to do with the root of the word and the proper plural for octopus is octopuses..

Yes, "octopuses" is correct. While "octopi" comes from the Latin form of plurals, it's so widespread that it is also acceptable.
(Pedants, however, say that octopus comes from Greek so the plural should be "octopodes" (awk-TOP-po-deez))

I cannot in good faith play any ATLUS game. It's been recommended to me often because I love turn based JRPGs, but everytime I look up their newest titles the DLCs are already planned. I think with Soul Hacker it was already announced a year in advance at least.
I just wait and by them a year or so later. That way i get the ENTIRE game and at a good discount

By the way I’ve been playing Eiyuden Chronicles for the past week and I really love it. I have not found these problems within the game or at least yet but I’m have been really happy with it and I’m sure I can work past any of the other small problems that others seem to be upset with.

Linda Cubed Again is great, been playing it myself along with some other classics that have been translated.
Metaphor: ReFantazio looks great and like it comes out the day before my birthday, but I hear this is one of the Atlus games that will be on the Switch 2. So I'm going to wait for that.

Pretty sure even IGN said Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes was like 60 hours or so, and big reviewers always tend to get RPG times on the shorter end. HowLongToBeat has it between 44 and 60 depending on completion rate.
Hmm. I'm 52 hours in and about 70% finished according to a list of bosses you fight in chronological order.
But I'm also taking my time and collecting every alliance member I can find.

well for eiyuden i finish it 70 hours. it is a solid game, and also a true successor indeed for suikoden. i wish konami just focus on creating new suikoden 😭
I absolutely love Eiyudan Chronicles. It is so damn good. And addicting. Im 52 hours in right now and enjoying every second.
However some of Suikoden problems bother me here as well. Mainly characters that know each other not interacting with each other when they obviously should. One example is that Garoo, Mellore and Iugo never acknowledge each others existence. You would think Garoo would at least say hi to Mellore given that Mellore reminding him of his daughter is a big reason Garoo opens up and fights for New Neveah in Rising. But thats pretty much a staple in Suikoden games. It's a sacrifice you make for having so many possible party members.
Also Melridge is the GOAT of the game. The alliance would have failed many times over if he wasnt around. Dux Aldric even comments twice about how impressive and dangerous his mind is.
Are the performance issues on the switch still a thing?

well my ps5 copy of eiyuden keeps crashing every 2-3 hours so i hope they look into crash issues
well to be fair though the mitama dlc is for people that dont want to farm xp and money. mitama has no impact in story. im not sure the new 2 demons is all that bad since they usually come with its own story and quest path and are not part of the main story.
Dont defend it. Its the principle of the matter. Optional non story bosses is still fun content thats cut from main game and put behind a paywall. Its a greedy douche move.
@@Terron29 but its not really cut from the game if its not part of the main story. thes e side quests usually are produced with xtra hires most of the times. the mitama is for people that find the game difficult or wanna level up fast. also not part of the main game and there is not mitama story. its literally buying gold and xp. neither of the two things above are going to prevent you from finishing the game or enjoying it fully. so its not paywalling the actual game.

however my issue is with the two bosses are content cut from the game.
Theres more to the game than the main story. Bosses are great, who doesn't enjoy a good boss fight? They have two bosses that are developed and ready to go that they could have included in the game at base price but decided to charge extra if you want to fight them.

@@vix4here who knows. I think smt 5 is a great game and vengeance looks great so I am not trying to blindly hate or anything. These kinda modern day day one dlc practices that so many companies use annoy me is all. Baldurs Gate 3 and Elden Ring did it right.

Can we also talk about how the food in eiyuden sucks compared to how the food worked in suikoden 2. Once the food became available in suikoden I quit using the healing herbs. But since food sucks in eiyuden my people are going to smoke herbs to victory lol
Octopuses is the most common plural in the current English lexicon, though octopi is also acceptable. They both replace the original octopodes plural, which was the Greek plural.
The translation issues suck but aren't going to stop me from buying what is otherwise a great game. I'm more concerned the rumors of a problem that stops the game from being beatable off the disc. If Doesitplay says it's a safe buy I will buy it otherwise I will wait and hope for a re release because I don't do patches.

Uff, a Trails mobile game? Hard pass for me, especially with Northern War. I watched the anime some time ago and it was quite bad, like it took some real determination to even finish it.
Also this whole DLC nonsense has gone way overboard with these games. I've recently added the PS5 versions of Cold Steel 3 and 4 to my wishlist on PSN and the DLCs there cost like double what both games combined cost.

I don't play mobile games so unless the Cold Steel 2 game BASED on its anime gets a PS4/Switch port I won't be PLAYING it but you never actually Visit North Ambria in CS2 at all you don't even GO their in Kuro 1 and 2 or Hajimari no Kiseki in Japan either Kai no Kiseki IE Kuro 3 may FIX that.

Octopi, octopuses, octopode and more are all valid English pluralisms for octopus. English plurals and collective nouns are a wonderful mess. It's Fascinating to see how different plural forms are embedded by LLMs in multi dimensional arrays.
