I just found your channel. It's great to see reviews of things most of us in a home studio can actually afford.

Appreciate your comment! I've got no sponsors - so I can say anything I want. You get some random dude's opinion on all kinds of music gear - completely unedited, unfiltered, and unbiased.

I hated Amplitude I used to get all this strange background noise and it would cut out. Now I use the fractal fm3 or hx stomp which both sound great. You could probably buy a used hx stomp for a decent price.

I've yet to try either but want to! I am very interested in the Stomp.

There are some stellar tones in Tonex, but you really need to know what you're doing. It's not a plug and play device. General consensus is that IK multimedia premium tone models suck. Those are the ones you demoed.

That makes sense when you say it! I don't think I've seen the last of Tonex and Vice Versa.

Hi gain? No. More like HIGH NOISE.
I decided to finally give the Quad a try and haven't thought of a guitar pedal, VST, or amp since. Haven't looked back. ToneX is not good.

Yeah TONEX is divisive for sure. Lots of love lots of hate. I didn't mind it - I owned one for this weekend -but returned it. Back of the box says you can model your own stuff... that is not entirely true... and it had no mod effects... drive only. TONEX's core system is very weird me to me... where the 'block' is what it is.... ie: Tube Screamer on a Deluxe? You can't remove the TS. I dunno. Implemented very weird IMO.

I've played around with modelling amps on the computer. I've never been really sold on them. I do like my Joyo Cab Box, it can take IRs and you can play with it. I'll keep using a mic and amp to do my stuff.

Yeah - so far - I can't think of a single amp plugin I really like. I do love the UAFX Dream and Ruby .... but if they can stick that software in a pedal - basically a glorified cell phone - why is that goodness not showing up in the plugin world? I think I'm going to buy the UAFX Lion - despite my rage about the Blue Tooth not working.

@@QuestForGear If you don't need the Bluetooth then does it really matter? Can you get a non-Bluetooth model?

    • @QuestForGear
      @QuestForGear  3 місяці тому

It's not critical for sure. I just hate that they included it... and then it doesn't work anyway. It really only assists with the preset management. You can get artist presets, etc. It's the ONLY way actually. But you can ignore it.

Ampltiube doesn't play nice with Apollo interfaces on stand alone. Run it inside your DAW and it will be fine.

I think you are right! I have no issues with my Focusrite interface. Appreciate you confirming this!

@QuestForGear Also, make sure you are plugged in the Hi-Z input and set your gain a litle till the input meter is just barely touching the middle on the input meter. If using high output guitars like a Lespaul trim the gain knob, just remember the sweet spot is barely touching the middle on the meter.

I'll follow this closely next time I try this software, see if I can get better results, thanks!

Amplitube not being stable could be because you're using an i5 laptop with thunderbolt. It also depends on what gen your intel i5 is. I use a laptop with an intel E3 1505m processor which is equivalent to an I7 4790 4th gen I7. I also use a UAD Apollo twin with USB and not thunderbolt and have no stability issues. If you eventually upgrade your machine, your have better results because when you build a stereo chain in amplitube 5 with multiple heads and cabs plus adding the 500 series gear at the end of the chain, it sounds phenomenal

"upgrade your machine" - my machine is fine... someone else told me Amplitude doesn't always play well with the Apollos. When I used my Focusrite instead - I have no issues. I have Apollo with TB, not USB - so it could be that, but still.... I have NO ISSUES with any other software.

Hey, you could try TH-U, I really like the sounds. They have a free demo.
Or try Cakewalk, a 100% free DAW, includes TH-3, a stripped-down version of TH-U. Also great.

The gain on your audio interface should be set to zero. 😢

I have Amplitube 4 MAX,which has a lot of options for amps and cabs. You really have to spend time in order to get a good sound out of it. Presets are completely shit, not usable at all.

Most of these companies when doing presets seem to think their target market is Van Halen... and maybe it is?

sounds like you're using single coils. Of course a high gain amp like a 5150 is going to be noisy. Put a gate on the chain
