My grandmother bought a 2017 Escape and it did this while idling. The Ford dealership a mile away told her she needed a new engine. There is no coolant in the oil, so no head gasket blown. My son used to work at a Ford dealership and he said it is probably the sensor. I'm going to look at it this afternoon. Good to see what is most likely is. Thank you! They wanted $9,000 for a new engine.

Hi mines in limp mode. Replaced housing that clip was something else to refit. Tried to fit when it was out as housing had to be replaced. Should have made it screw in.

I have this issue, I have changed thermostat, sensor and coolant bypass valve and it’s still in limp mode any ideas?

did you unhook the battery cable to reset the computer after your repairs do NOT touch the battery cables together

I accidentally drained too much fluid out while exchanging the sensor, and now the car is in limp mode. Is there a fix for this?

maybe a 30 second battery disconnect but do not touch the cables together like some people suggest this could cause more damage
