  • I recently purchased a Saw Stop 36"contractor saw. When I was doing my research I couldn't find to much information about the contractor saw, only the professional version.
    In this video I cover some tips I think would be helpful if you are looking to purchase the Contractor Saw Stop.
    Overall I love the saw and it is everything they say it is. The fence is perfect and everything out of the box was aligned.
    If you have any questions feel free to hit me up in the comments and I will try and help as best I can.

    Hi, I just ordered one of these and really appreciate your assembly and initial impressions video. I’m doing Steve Ramsay’s Weekend Woodwoeker course and haven’t used a table saw before. Keep up the great work, be keen to hear more about your experiences and thoughts on this saw.

      Glen Morrow thanks for the support! I have heard great things about Steve’s course. Your starting with a great Saw and will love it! Have been using mine now for about a month and it’s just so nice. Enjoy the course and welcome to woodworking 😀

      Small Fry Creations yeah I’m discovering this already - the community is great. Actually I do have a question for you - what’s the mitre gauge it comes with like for cross cuts? And did you get a GRR Ripper?

    • @SmallFryCreations
      @SmallFryCreations  6 років тому +3

      Hey Glen. I haven't used the mitre gauge as this point as I use a miter saw for cross cuts. I do have a GRR Ripper. The griper is ok. I wouldn't say I love it. I find it doesn't grip the work piece like they say it should but it does feel safer then a lot of other push sticks. I tend to use a mix of the gripper and the push stick that came with the saw.

    Nice to see some love for the contractor saw. It is all most of us really need. I finally got mine in early January. I had one of the first ordered back in 2008 but has to cancel because of divorce and just took 10 years to get back to having room and money at the same time for one.

    I'm doing the same, contractor, cast iron wings. I'll custom build some outfeed tables to double as assembly tables, and some other stuff. Love to see someone else get this saw as well. I wanted to get one of these for about a year and have been saving but recently became concrete in the decision to get one of these because I ran my thumb into my current table saws blade. It wasn't fun, fortunately a very fast reaction on my part saved everything and I'm not majorly injured. Going to be making the purchase in a bout a week now. Great vid.

    Thank you so much! I knew I wanted to purchase a SawStop but so many options, a good problem. Anyway, I had been zeroing in on the Contactors saw with 36" fence, and as a hobbyist myself, your video gave me good direction. I have read a lot of great reviews as well as rave reviews about the ease of assembly and you did a superb job of demonstrating that, especially appreciated your tips on assembly. Can't wait to make some dust.

    Delighted to find your video in my feed this morning. Now a subscriber. Thanks for your input.
    The “which sawstop model” has been going round and round in my head for months.
    I tell myself ( since I haven’t even got past cutting up plywood yet) that the JSS is good enough for a newbie with little time anyways. Then, I can see better value in your upgraded version of the contractor saw. Then I start thinking “ well I could (given the upgrades) get even better value with a cabinet saw.
    Finally, I come to my senses and think 5k plus is a lot of money that takes a lot to earn ... and I go back to the JSS scheme.
    Your enthusiasm may just have brought me to a decision.

    • @SmallFryCreations
      @SmallFryCreations  6 років тому

      Hey Thanks for the support. I know the feeling. I had to make the hard decision. At the end of the day I thought any saw stop would be an upgrade so lets not go crazy. I'm so happy with the upgrade. The cuts are so precise and square and it speeds up my work flow and has improved my quality. Good luck with the woodworking :)

    Great review and helped a lot! I am ordering the exact same model this week. Prices have gone up I see. I did ask sawstop about the difference between an upgraded contractor model and the start of the professional model (1.75 hp) as they look fundamentally identical but there is a $500 difference in price. For what its worth he told me the main difference is the dust collection is better on the professional model because of the cabinet enclosure and its a little heavier so it may have less vibration. With the upgrades to the contractor model other things are more or less a wash. The upgraded contractor is also the one I am getting knowing that.

    • @SmallFryCreations
      @SmallFryCreations  2 роки тому +1

      Yahoo!! How exciting!! It’s such a great saw and I still love it and it’s doing well. Has always been able to cope with anything I throw at it. 😀 interesting to know the difference between the models. I don’t have any issues with vibration as I think the cast iron wings give it good weight. It’s one of those things where your like when is the price out weighing my needs 😂 great pick 😀

    Beautiful Saw! I'm considering that and the Hammer saw made in Austria, which is more. The good thing about it is it doesn't kill a blade and a cartridge if you set it off. It just trips a switch and then push a button to reset.

    Love the video. Only just came across it when I was looking for reviews on the contractor Sawstop. In Australia as well so great to see a review from someone in Australia as have only found so far info from US. I have Triton 2000 at the moment which I haven't used in a while so thinking whether I should start using that again or get a new table saw. I have been watching alot of videos from US to get ideas to make Workbenches, Drop saw cabinets and router cabinets etc but they are in US. I also have the Triton Router. Problem comes when you try and source the materials to build the project which I am yet to do. Look forward to watching more of your videos.

      @@SmallFryCreations I ordered the Contractor Saw and I am in the process of putting it together. Just wondering if you had an issue with the mobile base and when you have the base on the wheels and you try and put it back on the stand. It seems to get stuck. I have to push where the release lever locking screw is so that is comes out of its locked position and can't slide along the channel as it gets stuck. It seemed to work fine before I put the saw on the base.
      I put the base together then added the mobile base and it seemed to work ok. I then turned the saw upside down and put the stand on the saw and screwed on and then turned the whole thing over. Then we tried to move the stand which is moved fine but when we wanted to put back on the legs it wouldn't. So found if I got a bit of wood and just pushed slightly against the release leaver inside the stand it was enough to allow it to come down. We have tightened all the screws against not sure what to do next.

The table is twisted and the fence is garbage and even the miter slots are not straight. I’m gonna be replacing it soon though and I’m leaning towards a Bosch job site saw. Excellent video! I just put one together this past weekend. Love the saw. I'm a bit concerned about dust collection though. The dust shroud underneath is pretty wide open so I'll have to come up with something for that. If you have ideas on that please post!

      @SmallFryCreations  5 років тому

      Hey Mike. It is a great Saw. You won't be disappointed. I will agree the dust collection is not awesome. I have a dust collector hooked up and I would say it would collect 70% of the dust. A lot of dust stays in the saw and falls on the ground. I want to try and come up with something that goes under the saw but is easy to get out to empty. If I come up with anything I will be sure to let you know. :)

    Brilliant vid, and timely for me. Similarly, I have had a Triton (Mark 3), which is looking sad. I’m thinking of getting one a SawStop Contractor at the end of the month, with the extras that you bought. My problem is lack of space, the Contractor may be too big for my shed., so I may have to look at similar $ for a Festool system. I’ll look for the Subscribe button now!

    Hi Small Fry, great video. How is the saw going after 6 months? I was very happy to find an Aussie review of the sawstop and find another aussie woodworker on youtube. Thanks Tony! I love the Saw and couldn’t be more happy. I’m glad I upgraded to the cast iron wings. It feels like a cabinet saw at a cheaper price. I almost went with the job site but I thought if I was going to use it every week then buy once and buy right. It has no trouble cutting plywood and any hardwood I have put through it hasn’t had a problem. I also went contractor so I could get the better fence system. Overall I rate it 10/10. Good luck 😀 let me know if you have any other questions

    Thanks for the video! Very helpful...mine's coming in a few days and I'm working on an outfeed table/workbench. The specs show the saw as 34 3/4" high. Is that what you built your outfeed table too? I haven't been able to actually see one to measure exactly what that measurement is so any information would help. Thanks!

    Just found your channel, good to see another Aussie channel, and another fellow female woodworker at that. I'd love a saw stop, but $3100 for a contractor saw is a bit hefty, I am looking at the Harvey cabinet saws and the Carbatec cabinet saws, they are around the $2000 - 2400 price range. But we'll see, don't have the money yet anyway. Let us know how you go with dust collection with the Contactor saw.

I had issues with getting the holes aligned doing it the way the instructions said.
