Hope you have enjoyed the Durga Puja in Kolkata. Some of these pandals are literally documentary worthy. I am a Bengali, but I grew up outside Bengal so this is fascinating to me too. And ignore some comments about wearing shoes inside pandals. Nowhere in India people take off shoes inside pandals only on the platform where the deity is. Have a great time in Bharat.
This is how Durga Puja is. Suchandra di is amazing story teller, she explains things really easily, even as a Bengali girl i enjoyed her stories once again. If he is Sujoy da 😂 Suchandra di is Puchki 😂😂 After a few months whenever i miss the pujo , I'm gonna rewatch it. ❤ best pujo vlog
Some indian fellas don't even know the meaning of gold digger. Calling out a girl a gold digger even without knowing the character is wrong. All extrovert girls aren't gold digger. If a girl is overfriendly or talkative doesn't mean she is a gold digger. She respectfully wore a saree and is helping a guy who is unaware of such places so what's a big deal? Is helping someone and showing different pandal a crime? For the shoes as others already said when it's a ground it's okay to wear shoes since that is not a temple it's just pandal. When you want to touch god definitely we need to take the shoes off . Even in navratri people play garba with their shoes on and there we have lord durga too but again if you want to visit and take blessings of god we need to take shoes off. 1- Durga puja in west bengal has been added into UNESCO world Heritage site. Many artisans from around the world come to work on pandals. 2-Also different parts of india celebrate diwali in different ways but the it is on same day. 3- Also, hindus are not all vegetarian but the meat consumption in hindus are the least that's for sure. And approximately 30%hindus are vegetarian. 4-different places have different variations of stories that they can explain to you in navratri but the core idea remains the same. So, if you trap yourself in thise variations you will lose the core essence or knowledge or learning that comes from it. So, listen these different stories as they all teach something one or other. As Hinduism is the oldest religion hence not possible for anybody to know it all as we don't have 1 or 2 books, hinduism is too deap and too dynamic. It is not static , it evolves hence you will hear different interpretations for same story.

What i noticed in all the Pandal videos are they are all beautiful, but there is so much trash lying around! Why do Indian tourists or locals trash up beautiful places? Cleanliness is godliness.
Okay so imma keep it very simple 1)Saraswati and Laxmi r not Durga's daughters, but they accompany her as surrogate daughter. This symbolizes that Devi or the feminine divine is the mother of all gods and demons in the cosmos. Durga is one of the material forms of the Devi. 2) in the second pandal, Durga is represented with baby Krishna. The idol in itself is a reference to a 19th century painting called "Deb gostha" which portrays Durga along with multiple deities and krishna. It represents the image of Yogmaya, the benevolent aspect of Goddess Durga as per bhagavata purana. Yogmaya assisted Vishnu in during his birth human avatar form: Krishna. Krishna was born on Ashthami, the 8th day of Durga puja, after Devi replaced Krishna with her own infant avatar, & when tyrant king Kamsa tried to kill the infant thinking it was Krishna, she took the form of Durga to impede his evil act.

the swastika has been a sacred symbol in many cultures around the world, including Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, and Native American traditions. In these contexts, it represents positive concepts such as auspiciousness, good fortune, prosperity, and well-being. Nazis stole the symbol for their genocidal, psychopathic motives. Your pretty friend did a good job in explaining everything. At least better than during Ganesh Chaturthi since you just assumed stuff. That self illuminating light is same in all and everywhere. Since it is not an entity we cannot see it. We have to "experience" that light. Once that is realized, we can understand that , that light is same in all living and non living things. So that light or Brahman is all pervading and is called as Mahavishnu. The Ganapati or Ganesh festival in Western India & the Durga Puja in Eastern India was previously celebrated in the households of the Elites of those societies. They were introduced as a festival for & by the ''common people'' for the first time by Sister Nivedita ( disciple of Swami Vivekananda ), Lady Abala Bose ( wife of Acharya JC Bose ) & Lokmanya Tilak, the great nationalist leader from Maharashtra, with the intent of uniting the common mass of India in the emotion of ''Swaraj'' or self-rule. Thus it came to be known as the ''Sarbojonin Durgotsav'', or literally, a festival of the masses. The ''Navratri'' of North India is the worship of the same Goddess or Shakti, but this is where it differs. While the Navratri is merely a Religious ritual followed over 9 days, the Durga Puja has transformed into a ''Social festivity'', which has less religiosity & much more fun activity, where people from all walks of Society participate & immerse themselves. With no discrimination of caste, color, creed, or financial status. Same with the Ganesh Chaturthi.

Mahishashur how to pronunce it ? Ma-hi- sha-shur.... shur is pronunced as shoor and not shar. Mahishashur has his blood lineage from God Brahma (the creator God) he is the great-great grandson of God Brahma, and this demon (asura) wanted to serve God Brahma because he wanted a boon. So he did extensive meditation and worship and was offered a boon by God Brahma. So Mahishashur is great-great grandson of God Brahma and is given boon by God Brahma. In a way it is said Mahishashur is also an embodiment and incarnation of God Shiva as well. Mahishasura's father Rambha was king of the asuras, traditional enemies of the devas (Gods) and he once fell in love with a water buffalo ( which was in reality a cursed Princess Shyamala); Mahishasura was born out of this union. As a result of this unorthodox union he could take form of either man or buffalo at will. Mahishasura is a Sanskrit word composed of Mahisha meaning "buffalo" and asura meaning "demon" (asura), translating to "Buffalo Demon". As an asura, and being high and mad with this new form of immortality boon,he took this as the ultimate immortality boon thinking there is no woman who can kill a demon or man of that strength, thus with this arrogance Mahishasura waged war against the devas (Gods) with his asura army, as the devas and asuras were perpetually in conflict. Mahishasura had gained the boon that no man or God could ever kill him. In the battles between the devas and the demons (asuras), the devas, led by Indra (the king of Gods), were defeated by Mahishasura. Subjected to defeat, the devas urged Vishnu but Vishnu asked the Gods to go to Shiva since he is the God of Destruction of evils , so Shiva told the Devas to assemble in the mountains where their combined divine energies coalesced into goddess Durga (Goddess Durga is a warrior, demon slayer form/avatar of Goddess Parvati who is the wife of God Shiva and embodiment of Shakti (power)). All the Gods gave Goddess Durga their weapons which is why she has 10 hands with weapons. Weapons -Gods Trishul/ Trident- Shiva (the main which she kills Mahishashur) [you may remember Aquaman Trident in Jason Momoa's hands] Sword-Ganesh/Ganapati Spear-Agni (Fire God) Axe- Vishwakarma (Architect/ Craftsmanship/ Engineer God) Bow and Arrow- Vayu (Wind God) Lotus- Brahma (creator God) Sudarshan Chakra- Vishnu (Preserver God) Conch/Sankha- Varuna ( Sky/Ocean Water God) Vajra/Thunderbold- Indra (King of Gods, he is almost compared to Greek Zeus in some attributes ) Snake- Shiva (God of Destructing Evil) All these Gods and weapons have extensive meanings as well. The newborn Durga led a battle against Mahishasura, riding a lion, and killed him with the Trishul holding in the front hands. Thereafter, she was named Mahishasuramardini, meaning The Killer of Mahishasura. Mahishashur/Mahishasura is same.. He is called Buffalo demon because his head is like a buffalo , Since Mahishashura is a demon (asura) he can take many forms once he takes buffalo, a lion, a man carrying a sword, an elephant and lastly again as a buffalo, finally the Goddess was able to pin down Mahishasura and chop off his head.

She kindly offered to show me around Kolkata at no cost just because she loves the city and loves the Durga Puja festival and wanted to be hospitable to me as a guest here.
It’s not fair or appropriate for people to criticise her here in the comment section, it takes a lot of courage to be on camera and make content that is interesting and fun while it takes very little effort to tear someone down in the comment section.
So, please, don’t be mean, if you don’t have anything kind or constructive to say, please keep the hate comments to yourself, she deserves to be applauded for having the courage to be on camera, not treated badly.

That was not Krishna theme, that was traditional bengoli art theme especially created by Shri Jaimini Roy. And Krishna was Avatar of Vishnu. And Vishnu is Laxi's husband. That is why he didn't get married to Durga . Lord Vishnu took so many Avataras, and one of them was Krishna Avatar. As Vishnu took Avatars, Laxmi also did..so when Vishnu was Krishna , Laxmi was Radha and Rukmani. When Vishnu was Rama, Laxmi took Avatara of Sita.

Okay so imma keep it very simple
1)Saraswati and Laxmi r not Durga's daughters, but they accompany her as surrogate daughter.
1st you learn then you comment.
You are wrong. In Bengali version of Shakti aradhana, Laxmi, Saraswati, Ganesh and Karthikeya are 4 children of Mother Goddess Durga.

All these Celebrations are associated with stories in "Puranas" which were built upon vedas" and "Upanishads or Vedantas ". These celebrations are only for the well being of the society. In different ways money is circulated through the hands of all the sections of the society as clothes, sweets, flowers, decorating materials, artists, pot makers etc etc. Then get together enjoyment etc etc. According to Upanishads or "Adwaitham" only one God, that is "Brahman" which is our own conscious. Since the conscious is same in all and everywhere , God is all pervaiding.
@@philbland Mahabharatha and Ramayana are the two "Ethihassas "or historical events. In Mahabharatha "Lord Krishna " comes and in "Ramayana" Lord Rama comes. Ramayana is the first Poetry in the world written in Sanskrit with 24000 verses. These two were considered as incarnations of Lord Mahavishnu. The meaning of the word, "Mahavishnu" is all pervaiding. A name is given to the conscious of the universe, that is Mahavishnu.
@@philbland A human body is made of crores of atoms and within the body we have mind, ego, intelligent and conscious. The structure of Solar system is exactly same as that of an atom. The central Sun is self illuminating. In a similar way the central nucleus of the atom also has self illuminating power since it has mass. (E=mc2). That self illuminating light is same in all and everywhere. Since it is not an entity we cannot see it. We have to "experience" that light. Once that is realized, we can understand that , that light is same in all living and non living things. So that light or Brahman is all pervading and is called as Mahavishnu. That light cannot be seen through our external eyes. We have to experience that with our inward eyes. "Lord Siva " he is "Adi Yogi" or first Yogi who taught this to the world through Yoga.
Since Brahman is energy, after our death, that energy should reappear in some other way because energy can neither be created nor he destroyed. So all the Indic philosophies like, Hinduism, Budhism and Jainism belive in rebirth. No heaven or hell concept.
It is written in vedas that there are 12 Adithyas ( Suns) and a number of planets and satellites associated with all these and it is imagined that a "Virad Purusha" or Mahavishnu is sleeping in that infinite cosmic ocean and his mind and intelligent "Lord Brahma " created this Universe. The meaning of the word "Brahma" is ever expanding.
This earth is just a dust particle in that cosmic ocean.
In Kerala, Thiru-anantha - puram, you can visit "Sree Anantha Padmanahha swamy temple " . The idol is Lord Mahavishnu who is lying in the infinite cosmic ocean with lord Brahma associated with him.

From passion comes confusion of mind, then loss of remembrance, the forgetting of duty. From this loss comes the ruin of reason, and the ruin of reason leads man to destruction..!!

The Ganapati or Ganesh festival in Western India & the Durga Puja in
Eastern India was previously celebrated in the households of the Elites
of those societies. They were introduced as a festival for & by the ''common people''
for the first time by Sister Nivedita ( disciple of Swami Vivekananda ), Lady Abala Bose
( wife of Acharya JC Bose ) & Lokmanya Tilak, the great nationalist leader from Maharashtra,
with the intent of uniting the common mass of India in the emotion of ''Swaraj'' or self-rule.
Thus it came to be known as the ''Sarbojonin Durgotsav'', or literally, a festival of the masses.
The ''Navratri'' of North India is the worship of the same Goddess or Shakti, but this is where
it differs. While the Navratri is merely a Religious ritual followed over 9 days, the Durga Puja
has transformed into a ''Social festivity'', which has less religiosity & much more fun activity,
where people from all walks of Society participate & immerse themselves.
With no discrimination of caste, color, creed, or financial status.
Same with the Ganesh Chaturthi.
Waiting for Maa ❤

Weapons -Gods
Trishul/ Trident- Shiva (the main which she kills Mahishashur) [you may remember Aquaman Trident in Jason Momoa's hands]
Sword-Ganesh/Ganapati
Spear-Agni (Fire God)
Axe- Vishwakarma (Architect/ Craftsmanship/ Engineer God)
Bow and Arrow- Vayu (Wind God)
Lotus- Brahma (creator God)
Sudarshan Chakra- Vishnu (Preserver God)
Conch/Sankha- Varuna ( Sky/Ocean Water God)
Vajra/Thunderbold- Indra (King of Gods, he is almost compared to Greek Zeus in some attributes )
Snake- Shiva (God of Destructing Evil)
All these Gods and weapons have extensive meanings as well.
The newborn Durga led a battle against Mahishasura, riding a lion, and killed him with the Trishul holding in the front hands. Thereafter, she was named Mahishasuramardini, meaning The Killer of Mahishasura.
Mahishashur/Mahishasura is same..
He is called Buffalo demon because his head is like a buffalo , Since Mahishashura is a demon (asura) he can take many forms once he takes
buffalo, a lion, a man carrying a sword, an elephant and lastly again as a buffalo, finally the Goddess was able to pin down Mahishasura and chop off his head.

What a lovely girl who you befriended , who then helped you going round the city. Made the video more interesting 😊
I don't know its just me or anyone else find this girl weird since the last video. Also I don't know why she said Navratri and Durga Puja is different even though she is Indian. Phil rightly pointed out that essence both are same but the way celebrated is different.
I think she again and again said the information might be wrong so please correct her so nothing weird about it! In actual it was great to have a localite who can actually tell him about the culture rather than him roaming alone and figuring out himself
@@saloninahar7370 No, I meant the whole vibe of her.
She did not have a respectful approach to the sacredness of the Puja and had superficial knowledge and a very frivolous touristy attitude and if she is not very knowledgeable and the information may not be correct then she should not volunteer half baked knowledge it is disrespectful to the spiritual aspect of the Puja.
@@bmm55 Yes. She seems little ignorant but most people these days are. She could have prepared a little there is no scarcity of content. But if you show your ignorance on UA-cam, people obviously gonna be critical. Now that she know, I hope she works on it.
@takumiusui6667That's why I said she should have prepared because she not a guide but took on the responsibility to host a foreigner and show to Durga Puja. I'm not guide neither Bengali but I know more about her culture and Durga Puja. She seems very superficial.

Krishna or Vishnu is the husband of Laxmi. So, technically, Krishna is the son-in-law of Durga.
It's a little trippy concept, because technically Brahma-Vishnu-Maheshwar (Shiva) are the 3 stages of Parmatma or Ultimate Soul. So technically, Vishnu can be both the husband and son-in-law of Durga
Navaratri celebrated in thailand and some other south east asian
I don't want to say anything wrong but she doesn't knows anything correctly, please refer to google for information,I mean every information literally giving is wrong, Ganesha is younger son,and goddess parvati has only 2 sons no daughters, lakshmi and saraswati are wives of Vishnu and Brahma respectively, and Kailash is no heaven its a mountain where shiva is belived to live,I'm just 6 and half minute in video nd so much mistakes ,,
She is right according to bengali believes except that kailash part.
@@Abir-o8q well then Bengalis need to read puranas, just believing anything doesn't makes sense,
@@ShivamKumar-yd1rgeven puranas came much later than Hindu epics and older stories. Stories differ from region to region, and text to text. One must respect all.
@@archandutta348 I'm disrespecting none its just the unnecessary confusion these local belief creates in the larger context of the religion, modern viability of a religion needs a bit of uniformity in my view, while diversity is the pitch of India its also the fissure in its strength,
@@ShivamKumar-yd1rgI didn't say you disrespected. I just wrote a statement.
