@@StephandPete Rabindranath Tagore (1861 - 1941) ('Thakur' is actual but Europeans pronounce it Tagore) was a Bengali poet, painter, playwright, essayist, and song composer who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913. Tagore was the first non-European to receive a Nobel Prize in Literature and the second non-European to receive a Nobel Prize after Theodore Roosevelt. Rabindranath Tagore was the first Asian to win the Nobel Prize. He was a genius and the whole of India and Bengal was moved by Him. At the time of the Indian freedom struggle, Gandhi used to visit him and get valuable advice. Gandhi called him (so all the people) "Gurudev" which means the master/teacher/maestro/leader or in true the great "Guru" in a true positive sense.Till today, every day he is being celebrated through his songs, plays, novels (and what's not ! ) in daily household or social occasions or in normal day-to-day life in West Bengal. He wrote and composed the Indian National Anthem 'Jana Gana Mana". Subhas Chandra Bose selected the song as the national anthem while he was in Germany. On the occasion of the founding meeting of the German-Indian Society on 11 September 1942 in the Hotel Atlantic in Hamburg, "Jana Gana Mana" was played for the first time by the Hamburg Radio Symphony Orchestra as the national anthem of India. The musical notations for this interpretation of the song were prepared by B.L. Mukherjee and Ambik Majumdar. Thank you!
The way your son looks mesmerised everytime he looks at Ma Durga, I am sure her blessings and protection are with him forever. Greta take on experiencing the rural style "Sabeki Durga Pujo" as well.
Hayes is such a sweet kid!! Happy Birthday and many many happy returns of the day!! 🎉🎂❤👏 Loved the grin and embarrassment on his face when the birthday cake was on the table 😍
Hi Steph, I am a Brit with my extended family living in kolkata and came upon your channel by accident recently, and I have been bingeing your travel videos. You have one of the most appealing personalities I have come across on UA-cam and I love how you appreciate new cultures. Hayes is adorable too. ❤
I am glad you liked my city, my state. Your video touched the core of traditional values, unlike other travel videos. There is many more you missed. But there is always a next time. Finally, your son is a darling. ❤
I'm glad that you came out of Kolkata and explored the real beauty of West Bengal. You can visit the Himalayas in the north Darjeeling (Queen of Hill's) or beaches in the south Digha at the bay of Bengal.
Being a Bengali and a traveler, your story telling felt like a dida's home cooked meal. You are passionate about these and it shows. Thank you so much. Keep going guys.
Thank you Steph & Pete for presenting the lovely vedio of rural life of West Bengal. I am so much proud as bengali of West Bengal. My native village is in place called Bishnupur lovely place one of the famous district of West Bengal. The place is famous for old temples with typical terracotta works and the various models made of mixed metal, mainly brass called "Dokra". Once again thanks to you and your family for visiting West bengal. Lots of love 👋
To experience rich, simple yet beautiful life; you couple should stay few days in village of Sunderbans. As Americans you will be surprised to see that life.
"Banglar mukh ami dekhiachi tai ami prithibir rup khujite jai na ar"... Jibanananda Das unfortunately Bengal isnt what it used to be, people arent the same anymore even in villages, demographics have changed a lot, govt hasnt done anything for the people, but still you can see some beauty of the region even now, as per the literature, anecdotes of elders, imagery...there isnt a sweeter and enriching place in this world...there isnt more fertile soils and freshwater bodies anywhere, there isnt anywhere where people are more emotional and down to earth and loving there isnt just a simpler and spiritual place anywhere...many youths wouldnt understand the significance of these words i know because it isnt what it used to be! Bengal is mother, mother loves and nourishes children like you do for your child, we share similar sentiments for our motherland Bengal, regards
It shows that you are traveling because you are loving it..not for money or content to post. I like your simplicity and honesty. Hope you are having good experiences in my State.
Nice to see your son enjoying out there.... In case of Bengal you can actually feel 6 seasons .... Go to Dooars and stay at the tea garden... Furthermore let the winter sets in then you can go to Sunderban......
The world is cosmic center of cultural chaos.... On one side we celebrate Durga puja at Nashville, Tennessee whereas on the other side we have local americans visiting a remote gram (village) in West bengal to witness Durga Puja ...what a wonderful thing !!!
i really appreciate inspite of many inconveniences and difficulties u guys might be facing ... u still keep an open mind and try to soak in the way of living of people and life as it comes ....take care stay safe and keep exploring the beauty of my beloved Motherland

The figurines that you saw also come in much bigger sizes, with a higher price tag of course. Thanks for the video.
