- How playing with fabrics can simply be a pleasure or it may lead you to creating something new! Here I show off a box of fabrics and how I play with them to see what happens...and a seascape is devised! How to start from scratch and prepare a piece ready for free machine embroidery.

Your are an inspiration Emma! I was sitting, enjoying your vid & in the back of my mind thinking about my first class that I ran a couple of weeks ago - epiphany! It was you saying that you were inspired to create while watching your daughter. One of my criticisms of my own teaching of the class was that I had failed to engage them with the actual sewing component of the class. I need to be actually doing & demonstrating to my participants what I have explained. I think I’ve overlooked the importance of ‘modelling the behaviour’ or ‘walking the talk’ - whatever you want to call it. There was a good reason I didn’t take any of my machines to class - they’re all too big. However I can borrow a little one from a friend. I’m putting together class no 2 for the end of September so I will arrange this. I call the process of putting things together - your playing - ‘thinking with my hands’. I too find this completely & utterly absorbing. The benefits of this kind of engagement are part of what I’m trying to teach. Vx
Hi Vicki, well I'm just delighted that you've found your way and your message! I'm sure you'll really get into it, and doing it your way is so important, but being able to show people really can fire them up! And now you have an embellisher too to show!!

PAula I've been trying to leave a reply to your other comment about my embellisher but I can't seem to reply, so I hope you'll get this! I use a Babylock 12 needle machine and find it excellent, well worth the money as it's robust and also simple to change needles and clean etc. Hope that helps, and thanks for your support and lovely comments!

Can sequins mess you felting needles up?
I think they're not a safe thing to embellish, personally I wouldn't risk it!
Could these pieces be made with a embroidery machine? I have a normal sewing machine but that's all
I do these on a 'norma'l machine that has a few decorative stitches. I use 'free' machine embroidery, for which you just need an embroidery or darning foot. Check your manual and see what you might need. :)
