I love scarves and have always worn them, even when they weren’t trending. It’s such a nice way to add interest, softness, color and pattern to an outfit. Most of my separates and dresses are simple solid colors, so patterned scarves look great with them. I also use them, around my neck, to brighten up my face when I wear dark colors, especially black (I lime white or light-colored background prints for this). They are also very useful to tying together different colors: I just got one with both white and cream in it, and I feel a lot happier wearing these two colors together with the scarf that ties them together. My preference is silk year-round and I like both squares and the longer rectangular ones. I shop for them at many different price points, including Amazon, and have a 40-year collection that I love, all inexpensive to mid-range. Tor young women who might feel that florals don’t suit them, there are beautiful geometric prints available, too, it’s hard to go wrong with stripes or dots!
I can identify with so much of what you say. My collection of scarves began well over 40 years ago. I still have some of the scarves I bought at Harrod's in London when I was 17 yo. Like you, my collection is inexpensive to mid-range price-wise. And I buy them from anywhere and everywhere. Some of my larger oblong scarves I use as belt when I need to cinch in a roomier top and I don't have a suitable belt.

Kay, I love all these tips. I am so happy to bring back my scarves. I must have 50+ but gave them up the past 2 years because I thought scarves and a face mask were too much. I have only a few small squares and will focus on them for neck and bag. I notice that you are wearing a brooch on your lapel. I have some very good ones and some that were my Mom’s, so they hold a special place in my heart. I can’t see what yours is, but I am inspired to wear mine. ❤️

I love belts, too. If the trousers or skirt I’m wearing has belt loops, I add a belt in a matching or “close” color, they just look unfinished without them. I also use them with those voluminous dresses that are so popular, to give a waist to them. I don’t have a great waist, and am not slim, so I usually prefer not to wear a contrasting-color belt, I don’t want to draw extra attention to my that. I have gradually acquired nice leather ones in my basic colors, and a few more casual ones, like a straw and leather one. I tuck in all my tops it looks so much better!
😉💯% prefer matching my belt to the main or majority color vs choosing a contrasting color accent too. Would rather my belt blend while conturing than be some kind of beacon🚨. Unless the waist is elastic or drawstring, I usually need a belt to cinch in my waist. ⏳As an hourglass, usually must size up to fit wider hips & that typically leaves me with extra fabric bulk at the waist to corral. That likewise can be the same can for tops (where you need to size up for proper breast coverage), & end up needing to reduce the volume of shirt around the middle. Belts can help reduce volume at the waist of a dress too. Avoid knits or body-conturing styles. Might be able to stand a gently body skimming jersey material. If want a straight silhouette that typically means I need to gather that excess fabric at the waist too. Otherwise in dresses, fit & flare style is my best fit. Style Hack: Have taken to ruching some long tops & straight dresses @ the waist underneath. To one side, place a round small disc like a jar lid, twisting it in a circle, & add a thick elastic band under rim to keep gathered fabric in place. I purged a lot of scarves from my closet last year - but still have a few. Love the idea of the small scarf on the bag for travel, as it makes taking just one bag more versatile. I've noticed many fashion bloggers wearing their collars inside the lapels of jackets (as you are in this video), and this is a fresh take too. I also like the idea of wearing a belt, with a front tucked top, under a jacket. Excellent for those of us without a well defined waist

I attended a casual outdoor luncheon this week where I wore my personal “uniform”: a pair of blue jeans and a pullover top with simple jewelry. Before watching your videos, I’d have stopped there, clothed but not polished. Instead, I elevated my outfit by adding a blazer, doing a front tuck with my top, and my jeans had a more modern, wide-legged silhouette. I also added a pair of suede and embroidered flats with pointed toes. I got so many positive comments about my outfit. I felt like the best version of me. Thank you!

I love chain belts but sometimes they don't seem quite right. For example, when I put them through the loops of pants they seem lost or small. Must they just be for over tops? I always enjoy your videos, and this one brought up a couple questions for me. The first is do you have a quick routine for switching out your handbags? Do you transfer all the content from purse to purse, or do you have your handbags prepared with some basics and just transfer phone, keys, and wallet? And what do you do when going from a large to small handbag? The other question is about sunscreen, it seems like every time I use it, it migrates into my eyes and stings. It probably travels in my wrinkles. Any tips?

Then I just have to transfer over my keys, lipstick, small wallet, and sunglasses. I always have my cell phone and reading glasses handy anyhow.
Yes, I’m seeing a lot of suede for spring. I personally feel a little off in suede for summer, but it’s definitely appropriate for spring. In the end, wear what you like!

I love accessories. I have a lot of jewelry. Most of it is gold. I just ordered some earrings with titanium in them. I have very sensitive ears. I used to be able to wear anything for a short time. I’m anxious to see if they work. I’m not a scarf person. I do own some scarfs. But I never seem to reach for them. My neck is sensitive also. That’s what happened to me the older I get. I love purses. I have quite a few. I just don’t like to change them out with each outfit. I just broke my favorite sunglasses. But I have another pair, so that’s okay. I went to the dentist today. And the office is always cold. So I took a jacket with me to wear. I forgot I had it on when I walked out of the office. I kind of wondered why I was so warm. I took it off in the parking lot when I figured out that I still had it on. I’m learning the hotter it gets outside, the colder it gets inside. So I will be carrying something in the car with me all the time. I don’t like to be cold. I’m a lover of heat, not cold.
Be sure to wear Polaroid sunglasses. Simple dark-tinted lenses actually increase sun damage to the eyes by dilating the pupils, so letting in more harmful radiation. This is the best way to prevent cataracts; the three people I know who had “routine” cataract surgery all lost the vision in that eye! PS, H& M has some nice linen-gauze scarves that are super-cool for just providing light shading on the shoulders or upper chest, two area that can easily get burned. I like to have my white one for eating outdoors, I can just throw it on, but not overheat, if the sun is too strong for my sunscreen or I’m out for longer than I expect. Aging of the delicate upper chest area can be prevented with sunscreen and clothing. My sun-worshipper friends all now have spotted, leathery, wrinkled chests!
Hats should be made in different sizes. I have a small head, once a radiologist told me he should put my head in the children's scanner for a better interpretation. I can't find a hat that is small enough for my head, not even a sun hat. I also have a hard time finding adult sunglasses that fit my head. C'est la vie.
@@DressedforMyDaywithKayHarms I have found sunglasses in small sizes but hats are always too juvenile looking. I thought about taking a sun hat to the cobbler and having them sew them up for me to make them an inch or so smaller.

I always enjoy your videos, and this one brought up a couple questions for me. The first is do you have a quick routine for switching out your handbags? Do you transfer all the content from purse to purse, or do you have your handbags prepared with some basics and just transfer phone, keys, and wallet? And what do you do when going from a large to small handbag? The other question is about sunscreen, it seems like every time I use it, it migrates into my eyes and stings. It probably travels in my wrinkles. Any tips?

Then I just have to transfer over my keys, lipstick, small wallet, and sunglasses. I always have my cell phone and reading glasses handy anyhow.

Yes, I’m seeing a lot of suede for spring. I personally feel a little off in suede for summer, but it’s definitely appropriate for spring. In the end, wear what you like!

I just found you n UA-cam but you are mixed up with all the other bloggers. Is there a better way to see your videos showing what brands you are wearing as I love your style!

I have a question for you. At what age do you stop wearing pants with holes and tears in them?
There’s no particular age. I think our clothing choices do tend to change as we age. But we should make those choices, not someone else.
I love accessories. I have a lot of jewelry. Most of it is gold. I just ordered some earrings with titanium in them. I have very sensitive ears. I used to be able to wear anything for a short time. I’m anxious to see if they work. I’m not a scarf person. I do own some scarfs. But I never seem to reach for them. My neck is sensitive also. That’s what happened to me the older I get. I love purses. I have quite a few. I just don’t like to change them out with each outfit. I just broke my favorite sunglasses. But I have another pair, so that’s okay. I went to the dentist today. And the office is always cold. So I took a jacket with me to wear. I forgot I had it on when I walked out of the office. I kind of wondered why I was so warm. I took it off in the parking lot when I figured out that I still had it on. I’m learning the hotter it gets outside, the colder it gets inside. So I will be carrying something in the car with me all the time. I don’t like to be cold. I’m a lover of heat, not cold.

Be sure to wear Polaroid sunglasses. Simple dark-tinted lenses actually increase sun damage to the eyes by dilating the pupils, so letting in more harmful radiation. This is the best way to prevent cataracts; the three people I know who had “routine” cataract surgery all lost the vision in that eye! PS, H& M has some nice linen-gauze scarves that are super-cool for just providing light shading on the shoulders or upper chest, two area that can easily get burned. I like to have my white one for eating outdoors, I can just throw it on, but not overheat, if the sun is too strong for my sunscreen or I’m out for longer than I expect. Aging of the delicate upper chest area can be prevented with sunscreen and clothing. My sun-worshipper friends all now have spotted, leathery, wrinkled chests!

Hats should be made in different sizes. I have a small head, once a radiologist told me he should put my head in the children's scanner for a better interpretation. I can't find a hat that is small enough for my head, not even a sun hat. I also have a hard time finding adult sunglasses that fit my head. C'est la vie.
Oh my. Have you tried to find one in childrens sizes? And I think the better made hats do come in sizes, but of course they are also more expensive 🫤
@@DressedforMyDaywithKayHarms I have found sunglasses in small sizes but hats are always too juvenile looking. I thought about taking a sun hat to the cobbler and having them sew them up for me to make them an inch or so smaller.
I will never be fashionable. I can not tuck my blouses in. Look old at 66. 😢😢😢
