    Awesome video and tips - thanks, Nikko! Did you see Jessica Farrell's review on AllTrails? She went on 1/15/23 after 3 weeks of non-stop pouring rain, and said, "The climb up was wet but doable. The creek is more like a river, and there is no way across without wading into the very fast water. A lot of people turned around…we pushed through and walked ~6 feet in thigh deep, fast moving water to reach the shortcut trail. Highly recommend poles!!" WOW - The creek is raging! I'm gonna wait a few weeks before trying.

      i’ve heard the shortcut cliff collapsed after the storms, so it’s more of a hill now. let us know how it was if you hiked the trail recently!

    Thanks so much for making this, super helpful! So it wasn't too cold in January to get in the water? Did you wish you had brought some water shoes to walk around on the rocks and sand at the beach?

    • @NCGTravel
      @NCGTravel  5 місяців тому +1

      No problem, thanks for commenting! The water was definitely cold, but since it wasn’t windy and the sun was out, I was able to warm back up. There’s only upsides to using water shoes, comfort/grip, but I don’t normally wear them. There are some slippery rocks and loose rocks, just had to be extra careful. Sand is more on the coarse side. However, it wasn’t bad.

    PSA from the National Park Service: www.nps.gov/pore/planyourvisit/alamere_falls.htm
    Stay safe out there!!
    There is NO park-sanctioned "Alamere Falls Trail"
    Please take note! Many social media posts, websites, and older (and some newer) guide books reference an "Alamere Falls Trail" (also sometimes referred to as a "shortcut to the falls"). The "Alamere Falls Trail" is NOT a maintained trail, and poses many hazards to off-trail hikers-crumbling and eroding cliffs, massive poison oak, ticks, and no cell phone service. Visitors who use this unmaintained trail may endanger themselves and rescuers, and inadvertently cause resource damage, such as trampling plants, which may lead to the death of the trampled plants. On an almost weekly basis, visitors get hurt scrambling down the heavily rutted route leading to the top of the falls or sliding down the crumbly cliff-face to get to the beach, sometimes requiring search and rescue teams to be mobilized. The National Park Service strongly advises visitors against using this unmaintained route. Please use the recommended routes described below to visit the falls.

    Besides the shortcut hows the trail getting to it? Flat? There are elders in our group of hikers and have concern besides it being a "long trail" that there will be "up and down" hill.

    • @NCGTravel
      @NCGTravel  2 роки тому +1

      there is moderate elevation change besides the shortcut. about 300ft of incline before the shortcut then about 500ft of decline starting at the short all the way down to the falls. hope this helps! i suggest you check out the alltrails map i made, linked in the description.

      @@NCGTravel well I guess I follow the reccomendations from the actual park rangers and respect the place I am. How do you think it has not been ruined before you go there vs after you and many others leave? It is a simple think of myself vs the place mentality.
