- I love Dune 2. There's one scene in particular I really like, so I thought I'd do a play-by-play breakdown & analysis of it.
Sorry for the blurring, I had to do it to avoid copyright.
Love this breakdown!! This was my favourite scene of the movie too 🎬
Thanks! Yeah it's such a great scene I love it.
I agree, best scene in movie, thanks for breakdown. I missed a few suttle things you caught.
Thanks glad you enjoyed it!
That feeling you describe of watching someones life, when they have trancended personhood and become calamity is what I felt reading The Golden Age Arc of Berserk, and the Rise of the White Hawk.
I'm very intrigued. I haven't read Berserk, do you recommend it then?
@@MediaRetrospective-sb2pt heavy trigger warning for graphic violence including horrific sexual violence sometimes against children. If you can handle all that, it is one of the best stories ive ever seen, in any medium, in any genre, has breathtaking artwork that belongs in a museum, and just such a meaningful story about the human experience and the struggle of life, with fantasty heightening the emotions into godlike proportions in the most horrific way possible. I love it, would not reccomend it to mother or sisters. If youre intrigued by what I have written, I reccoment it to you.
@@chrisrubin6445 Thanks man. It sounds pretty brutal, but I'll give it a go and see what I think.
After our first viewing of the film, my brother told me he liked it but was a bit disappointed with the final battle, saying that it felt anticlimactic. And I told him, that's because it was supposed to be! This scene, along with the preceding scene where Paul decides to drink the water of life, is the true climax of the film.
Think of something like Star Wars. The trench run is thrilling because we've seen just how powerful and indestructible the Death Star seems, yet in order to resolve the conflict it has to be destroyed. The tension comes from the task at hand being at once impossible and necessary. However, the tension in Dune comes from Paul's inner conflict, as he wrestles with the weight of the messianic destiny thrust upon him. Crucially, the film gives us enough hints to know that if Paul goes down that path, his victory is all but guaranteed. Therefore, the tension comes from Paul needing to decide whether to risk losing the war while retaining his humanity, or to acquiese to his fate, avenging his family but leading him down a path that inevitably ends in suffering and death. Once Paul drinks the water of life, the central conflict of the film is resolved, and the rest of the film, including the final battle, is simply the denouement of the story.
Great insights! Yeah I think that's a great way to look at it, Paul's internal conflict is the crux of the movie and what he struggles with the most. I did still love the final battle, but as you said at that point his victory is guaranteed.
Before DUNE, I had only seen Timothee Chalamet as a bit part in INTERSTELLAR. The change as Paul from DUNE PART 1 to DUNE PART 2 is phenomenal after he's taken the Water of Life. He started out as a bit of a soy boy but turned into a lion by the end of the story.
Haha, yeah his transformation is really something to behold. It's definitely my favourite role of his.
Nice video - also one of my favourite scenes! I like the analysis of what you liked
Thanks!
