On my model Oreck there is a small removable door on the side of the vac, held in place by one screw. You need to remove that door in order to have enough leverage to roll the belt on the brush end as described in the video.
THANK YOU SOOO MUCH! I have been fighting this thing for months. Vacuuming was harder than mowing. Ugghh. I don't know what took me so long to Google my problem but thankfully I finally did and it led me to you and I can vacuum normally again. YAY! You made it so easy to change the belt (that I didn't even know was there). I'm sending you a cyber hug and a kiss on the cheek. Thank you, thank you, thank you. 😁
Do I need to put a lubricant on the belt to prevent the burning smell? My belt went on real tight, and not as fluidly as seen in your video. Do you think I bought the wrong belt? Thank you for your help
Thanks for the very helpful video. Maybe there IS a side door that is supposed to be opened, technically ( I have no idea), but if the belt has to be stretched around the shaft anyway, and this gets the job done, I don't know why it would matter! The vacuum now works great, btw!! Thanks!
awesome simple and I thought THIS I can do. but I don't have enough hand strength to stretch the belt enough to manage what you did simply. sigh, suggestions?
Why when I changed my belt yesterday and replaced a new roller brush at the same time on my yr 2000, Oreck 2600, I vacuumed an area delightfully in 10 mins. I put it away then today started to vacumn it drug and wouldn't pickup lint on carpet. I it found stunk of burning rubber. I felt the area of the pulley and shaft, was hot. I removed the guard plate, and found a split belt with lots of gunk from the belt on the pulley and motor shaft pin. Cleaned with WD 40 and replaced. Vacuumed easily altho still got warm. What is the problem here?
I love my Oreck XL Classic. I recently had to replace the belt which I have done many times over the years but for some reason the belt just fell apart (broke into pieces) after I ran the vacuum for about 3 minutes. I was shocked. This has never happened before. I purchased the belts through Walmart from an authorized dealer and they are marked ORECK. What do you think happened? I stopped the vacuum immediately so I wouldn't cause any damage... Like I said I love this vacuum. But what's going on with these belts? Any idea?
Well, u made it look easy, but....Even u said #1 issue with machine is the belt. My Oreck needed extra long screwdriver because screws were way down the hole. The other issue is which way to put on the belt. One way beater bars goes backward. It should sling dirt up into cavity then into bag. Right?
I have installed the belts like this and it just burns right through them. We are taking it in for service this weekend, and if they can't fix it, we will throw it out and go buy a Sears-Kenmore!
What might make the new belt keep slipping off ?, Continually, every time within first 1 or 2 pushes of vacuum. New belt, tried the old "spare" new belt. Also a new new belt. Same thing they slip off within seconds. .
@breeze787 well it sounds like u guys had a bad experience or something. i too had that belt problem a few years ago so i took the vacuum into the store for a tune up and they immediately told me that something had broken. whatever they replaced it with seems to be much sturdier cause i havent had a single problem since. ive just had it tuned up so it's in top shape. it works magic for me and i love my oreck! i've had bad vacuum experiences in the past but fortunately the oreck has changed that!
You need a few lessons on marketing. I needed a roller brush and some belts for a Oreck XL Pro Plus II and I couldn't get to your web site on Go Daddy and you had 0 stock on the eBay site. I ended up buying some where else
You will do yourself a favor if you buy a Dyson. I've owned and sold Kirby's, owned an Oreck and bought a Dyson. The Oreck is very cheaply built and is a horrible excuse for a carpet cleaner. The Dyson although more expensive is solidly built and you'll go about 4 years before making a belt replacement. You can see the results of your efforts both by observing the see thru canister and by looking at your carpet. It appears that the color of our carpet shows a significant improvement. Buy a Dyson
Crystal clear and concise - wish all repair videos were like this 👏
The absolute most informative, short, and excellent video!! ❤
Thank you! I could not figure out how to get the belt back on and this was short and to the point!
This by far the best advice for changing the belt. Thanx

Thank you so much for making it easy to fix my Oreck -- especially the tip about rolling the belt on.
Thanks - worked like a charm. Rolling the new belt on for the last step was the step I needed.

Thanks. Mine has star-head screws, though. Had to get a little inventive to get it open with tools on hand.
Thanks for your video. I just purchased an Oreck. How often does the belt need to be replaced. Thanks again.

Very clear and helpful. One item--if I think there is some vacuum debris that is ibside the area that does gthe suction, how can we get at it?
Thank you for the quick easy steps.

thank you. i thought i would have to have an extra set of hands.
I changed my belt but it still smells burnt
The belt is too strong for me to stretch over the roller.
The same for me -- I cannot pull it far enough.
@@joewolfe8798 do it the opposite way. Put on roller first, then stretch it to motor shaft

I notice all the favorable comments come from men. Do the men actually do the vacuuming?
Yes
Thank you!
