This makes sense once marriage is on the table, but what bothers me as a Westerner is the overvalued financial aspect that the man is supposed to have to only then be deemed as a "good guy," a keeper, or a good match. There's so much to unpack from this. I think you guys are doing great, and many of these societal and cultural topics would definitely help people like me understand Chinese society better and also benefit from it. In China, people place great importance on financial security in relationships, especially in marriage. This is related to Chinese culture, and your foreigner status may cause them some anxiety.
