It was 1985, and I was 17 my dad was a car dealer and picked up a European Mercedes 500 with custom, work from a small shop in Germany called AMG! It was straight out of Miami Vice! Red bucket seats front and back. This car was absolutely light years faster then anything else! Corvettes, mustangs, you name it! The look on an 80s muscle car guy when I blew his freaking doors off with what most people considered to be a rich mans European Cadillac back then was priceless! We sold it, 27 years later I see the car and the man who bought it. He tells me once a year he will take it to a local dragway where he lives and race everyone who has heard the legend of the unbeatable Benz and would like to take a shot. I tell him my stories he tells me his! Bottom line AMG engine are badass from way back!
AMG was super fast....totally unexpected but highly impressive.

Cool race. The only reason to this outcome is that they started the race at already reasonable speed. Bikes are faster from the zero and up, but at the high speeds performative cars level out very quickly.

Self control? Bro, that was not self control. The other people on the road are not part of the race. I change lanes often to avoid potholes and I rarely check to see if a 200MPH car is coming my way. If I'm doing 85 on the freeway and the traffic is 70, I'm only 15 over, but fast enough to not worry too much about some idiot blasting at 200mph while I change lanes. I have taken my own AMG's up to maybe a buck fifty, but not when anyone else was in my car or around my car on the road. Challenge on the freeway, maybe, but it would not last more than 10 seconds and no one can be near the sprint so no one gets hurt. Feel me?

PS : you always have to check for infos when changing lane, that's the only way to drive. In France, you have to change lanes all the times, you get use to it.
A surprising result. I thought the r1 would have smoked the benz but it struggled. I didn't even think the benz could do 300klm.

Chinmay Naik not being horrible to the dude riding but with someone who could ride well the r1 would have destroyed the merc. by time the bike caught up they were doing over 150mph where the bikes massive power to weight advantage made little difference. do a rolling start from 70mph with a gd rider and the merc wouldn't have seen which way bike had gone.

The car guy was really in a hurry to get a head start. The bike guy appears to be a very careful rider. Summary of the whole thing is that they're both limited at 299kmph but the bike can get there faster.

the bike is not limited just the tachometer, it`s like a gentleman agreemant which all of the big companys made, but you can see the rev is still going up at 299 kmph

it's all about keeping that avg. speed up & carrying it. I feel like bikes are way better in getting the speed up, but holding it over a longer period of time is another thing; the car does it all way more comfortable.

Older generation of R1. Newer generations make another 30+ hp and run higher speed.

Generally I agree about the older machines to a point, as they were much more torque-heavy in the midrange. The 1st gen R1 had a less overquare bore/stroke ratio and pumped out good power. The 1st gen FZ1 was derived from that engine and the effect was similar. I had a 2011 FZ1 that I fully tuned (full decat exhaust, airbox hack, filter, ECU flash). Made about 150 hp at the wheel. Today I'm using a MT-09 which has a lot of charm albeit about 40 less HP, but also 50 less pounds mass.
@Phil Martin Yes they are. I haven't modified it yet, but I know all about the factory suspension weaknesses and the pent up power that's available but restricted. Just unsure if I'm trading or modifying at this point.

You have to remove your rev cut and change ecu,Exhaust pipe to get past 310kmh only then you can overtake the true AMG Merc..Been that done that..300kmh isnt enough to smoke him..The car got tons of performance parts compared to your stock bike

Take it to someone who tunes motorcycles or can edit a motorbike ECU, so take it to a motorbike tuner :D
guys stop acting like the Mercedes driver destroyed the R1 driver like nothing. Both were absolutely fast and in the end they were equal. The only advantage the car driver had was that he already was in front of the biker. The biker hardly catched the car driver and the car driver couldn't get away from the biker. I made the same experience. I ride a Suzuki GSX-R 1000 and I had a race with a BMW M8. Yeah I was barely able to "catch his ass" but I didn't really get him and he wasn't able to get away from me. Then we stopped at the gas station and I thought that he will say something like "is that all you got?" but no, he was surprised that I was able to keep up with him. He laughed and said "you must be insane to drive that fast with a bike!" and I admit that he was the first car driver I couldn't leave behind. Until now. I think more and more people with 600hp cars will come and then we bikers won't be in such an advantage anymore.

It's called it's limitations. It has nothing to do with anything else. It's about protecting the manufactures reputation by not allowing it's engines to be damaged.

Not really. The car lead the bike out of the parking area and was driving more aggressively in traffic. The Bike clearly had faster acceleration and both had same top speed.

Harisahmad Mushtaq if you're lucky you slide gracefully down the road and don't hit anything or get run over. You have severe arse burns but are otherwise fine. If you hit something though you'll turn into a sort of human smoothie, all mushed up and dead, with your head 200 meters from your body.
