Building a Stone and Wood Bridge Bench
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 гру 2018
- For this build, I combined several elements from different areas of life into one cohesive design. A bench with an organic stone as one leg elegantly transitions to a refined joinery and bent lamination emulating a bridge.
The stone is a granite boulder. The top and leg are African Mahogany, and the Arch, cross braces, and wedges are walnuts. The whole thing is finished with a satin wipe-on poly.
Inspiration came from:

This table is a stunning piece of art. Well done!
Thanks! Funny you should mention it....I've had this idea to make a white concrete iceberg extending through a table, but had never sorted out how to create the organically shaped opening.... so I was taking notes while watching this! :)
This looks like the elves of rivendell constructed it.
Awesome!!!! All I can say is awesome 👍👌💯
@@modustrial Oddly enough while I was watching this video I was thinking you could really change the sandstone rock for some GFRC. The end product definitely looks amazing - I thought it had a Japanese feel to it. I have lift similar sized sandstone sculptures and they were back breakers.
Just goes to show that one person's bench is another person's table.
When I saw the thumbnail, I thought: There's no way you can even move that thing! It must weigh a ton! Then you hollowed out the boulder like a maniac. Genius!
Loved the idea of stabilizing the stone with foam. Unique design for a table. Nicely done.
When we love the Nature & the Natural, we can see the result of Art Design, excellent job & Beautiful construction.
You inspire me! I've been collecting rocks of all sorts since the beginning of my time and have been working with wood for 20+ years and never thought of this. Thank you!
Que criatividade! Parabéns pelo excelente trabalho!
Beautiful combination of materials and a bespoke piece of functional art. love it
The attention to detail and effort you put into this blows my mind. Well done.
Had a real "Oh yes" moment when I saw the thumb. Breathtaking piece. Kudos
Brian, you are definitely on another level! When I don't think you can out do a particular project you come up with this one! Amazing creativity and craftsmanship! A true artist and you provide so much inspiration! Thank you posting this video!
Wow. Stunning and amazing. Not only is it a completely functional piece, it’s a joy to look at. Thank you for explaining where some of the influence of your design came from.
Hollowing out that rock to make it lighter was awesome. Much respect for those who actually get things done. Good job and great results.
I have had a similar concept in my head for a while (stone as a leg) and I love what you did with the other leg. The arch and spines look amazing and are a nice contrast and compliment to the stone side. Outstanding!!
Wow! Now your doing high end woodworking. This is the stuff taht magazines are made from. Bravo. Great job. I can't say enough. Amazing.
I love the mix of stone, timber and iron in furniture pieces. This is a beautiful piece of furniture, well done.
Beautiful work, im working on a similar project on a bench version, and i was thinking about what to do for bonding the stone with the wood. Thank you for sharing man, your detailed tutorial gave me some ideas.
This is absolutely amazing. Your attention to detail and patience are insane. Keep up the amazing work!
Such a beautiful piece Brian!

Mind blown always know it’s going to be incredible but never the same. Thank you for sharing.
Fantastic some thing truly different from most of the wood working projects I have seen
I think this is a masterpiece. Great joinery between organic shapes and cut or manipulated materials!
That is a great mixture of elements and a quite beautiful table. The stone looks just right. A lovely job.
Nice job, Brian. I appreciate your thoughtfulness and attention to detail.
Thank you for the extraordinary detail in your presentation. Although my current project is quite different, there are a lot of really good ideas in this video that I plan to use.
Such a grand design, any person or company would be very happy to have it in their home or business. Classy
Excellent job well done! Salute from Aussieland. I though it was very smart of you to think of hollowing out the stone!
Awesome! Thanks for sharing.

Bourgeois bench Brian. I am amazed at both design and execution. This is a great inspiration for me in my work.
As a veteran from over the pond in the UK about to start a venture in woodworking you my good man are a ruddy inspiration and answered a question that had had me for a wee while lol the old curving of the wood haha so for that one many many thanks. Absolutely stunning work mate truly love it!! Absolute stand out piece!! Top draw mate
Awsome design! Wood and stone have lived together since the beginning of time. Hollowing the boulder to reduce the weight is a novel idea.
From one carpenter to another great visual design and craftsmanship

It is a master piece. Nice combo of wood and stone. You nailed it bro - Thumbs up.
But he didn't use any nails, it's all joinery except for the bolts on the bracket.
@@Urahara1001 Well when you say "you nailed it bro" it means he got the job done very good. It has nothing to do with him using nails :)
That's a gorgeous table and I can appreciate how you hollowed out the stone and used felt on the bottom.

FLAWLESS ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!! YOU SPARKED MY BRAIN BIG TIME!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!
Thats pretty darn creative and cool man. Impressed to the gills here! Great looking piece!
I love that my home was part of the inspiration for this piece! Oregon is such a gem and so is this bench.
Very interesting, love the combination of textures. Awesome!
This is how it goes ! See something get inspired and make your own design!!
I love this piece! Has a simple look to it, despite the complexity of making it. Just beautiful.
Might be cheating, but if I ever attempt anything like this, I think I'll cut the top of the stone off, then trace the top stone on the top of the table, the bottom stone onto the bottom of the table, and router out just a little of each area, couple millimeters maybe, so that the rock appears to be going through the whole piece when in fact it does not. The table just sits firm on the bottom rock then, making it pretty stable without other brackets. As you can see, I'm really inspired and my brain is running with it. 😃👍
Oh, and doing it this way, the top piece of stone could be hollowed out for a secret compartment!
Thanks for sharing!
Words out of my mouth, Mr Matley. Plus, you could hollow out more of the bottom piece of stone from the top too!
@@WhereWasItLastTime Good idea.
ABSOLUTELY Beautiful! Great Job!
