Just came across this redo of your original video and i love it, just a word of advice though about polishing stone (for future reference). Im a stone and monumental mason, have been for over 13 years now and when you polish rough stone like the inside of your sink you need a variable speed grinder preferably with a water trickle through the centre of the rotating shaft. When you start off at the 50 grit you can use a normal grinder but dont put too much pressure on the disc because you will actually burn the stone, thats what that yellow discolouration is. As you move up through the grits you need to slow the disc down as you will burn the disc out instead of working the stone. Took me a long time to work out how that part worked lol love the video and keep it up dude

The inbetween step is a thing called a:
Silicon Carbide Grinding Wheel for Shaping Granite, Marble
and you need to use water for the polishing disks!!

The best pads I have used are CHANGE MOORE Wet Diamond Polishing Pads. @ $40 on Amazon. 50 - 3000 grit. Gives you an almost mirror finish and really brings out the depth and colors in the stone. And yes, use water. I use a spray bottle and mist the stone. Grind until lightly dry. Mist again. You will see the scratches disappear with each successive grit pad until you get to 300. Then 500 - 3000 use very little water and light pressure. The weight of the grinder is enough. I have been using mineral oil to seal the stone and bring out the colors. Not sure if that is the best product to use, but it sure looks nice to start.

awesome job, really nice work. A trick I learned with wood that might work with your stone is after you drill the 1/4" hole for the center of the drain use a hole saw blade that is the size of the outside of the drain grate and drill down the depth of the drain grate then swap to the size for the drain pipe and drill through. This will perfectly center the drain grate in the hole and also give you a perfect edge around the grate. Then you can use your grinding technique to remove the material from the hole out to the edge of the shallow groove you made for the grate.

I purchased a full set of stone polishing pads from china on ebay for $15 to polish granite remnants into coffee tables. I got great results by purchasing a hitachi variable speed 4" grinder. You must keep the speed down on level 1 or 2 and use water or you will destroy the pads quickly. I was able to polish probably 80 linear feet of granite counter top edge before the pads started slowing down. Look around on ebay for those other stone cutting grinder blades. I was able to get 4" makita discs that would normally be $30 for around $10 apiece.

Tomy Hovington a larger diamond bit for the flange would have done it faster and more accurately, you do have to spend another 30-40 bucks though.
      Drill the pilot hole
      Drill out the flange section
Drill the hole for the drain

Awesome job. I'm a stone carver myself. By no means a master. But once you mark the line. Use the flat blade diamond disk to score a line. Won't wash off. chisel and fork would help knock down the high block cuts instead of just grinding and chisel. And using the flat diamond disk to take out the minor ridges before polish process helps lots. Just need steady hands. They even have sanding disks that look like overlapped flaps in different grits which would help in concaved areas instead of trying to force an orbital flat sander to bend. May not got perfect results depending on type of stone but would get close too. And once you set the initial drill hole for the counter sink. Maybe instead of punching through first. Use a hole saw the size of the flange to set counter sink depth. Masking tape to set depth on hole saw. Then grind and clean out flange width from Inner diameter and the go down a size in hole saw. The mandrel shouldn't change truly so in theory it should be snug. Im no sink master. I just do stone art. Just sharing my ideas hoping maybe it will help if you ever make another. Other than that. Looks awesome. Truly love your work. Amazing artist

There’s a company over here , Northwestern , Washington state , that makes all sorts of reeeally nice beeswax products. Of course the sealer he’s using is the go-to stuff , but I used one of their leather care products on a concrete countertop I did and really liked the results . And for lots of reasons , including the way it looked . I’m thinking it would be worth a try . Amazed that this sink only took -5 hours to hog out and ‘polish’ , for the most part . Well done !

I love this sink, my neighbor Barney Rubble just got one put in. It has that timeless look.

Awesome! I felt for you big time when I seen that crack under your right hand. At least it's not catastrophic. Still though, I know you weren't wanting it to come about.
Great video, thanks for your efforts to provide us with the knowledge to do these type of things.

    Nice video, Samurei
    The washing corners looks beautiful.
Yes, these are the right stonework tools.
You have diamond polishing stones for the angle grinder. Since up to the highest level of the grain, then with stone polish and / or with Ploier fleece and always damp (water droplets give). Then you get a shiny surface, as with mamor.

I told my wife I wanted to make our next sink out of stone after watching the first vid. She cautioned me and said I should start with a soap dish. I didn't listen and 22 hours later we have a very nice sink. As mentioned, water and lower speeds. The cupped diamond wheel grinder is ESSENTIAL!! (if you only have 14hrs to spend). Thanks for the follow up vid!

Real cool brother water is your best friend to save on the bits and buffing pads. A granite counter top guy works out of the same shop as me and he showed me the ropes. Beautiful job btw

I really enjoy your videos. If you plan to make more stone sinks, make your counter sink for drain gasket before drilling your drain hole. Just a thought. Keep up the good work.

Would be cool to see the sink finished with the sealant and installed like you did with the last one.
