The hills ahead as you head east approaching Barton Grange Garden Centre are the Bowland Fells. They are a significant area of high ground separate from the Pennines and the Lake District Fells. There are several scenic and challenging walks there. But a delightful short walk is up the outlier Nicky Nook from the village of Scorton. Scorton is about a mile east of the Lanky Canal at Cabus Nook just north of Garstang. Nicky Nook is prominent in the canal views for the 3 or 4 miles north of Garstang.
