Having a father that supports your dreams isn't something that's going to hold you back, that showed that she had a strong foundation and support channel at home, which shows character and integrity of a man who raised this lady. Not all underdogs make it to the big leagues and not every big leaguer was an underdog.... Mark Zuckerberg, Bill gates, Tesla and Jeff B where never underprivileged who made it on top, they had a basic foundation of a good household and most of them went to private schools.

I've never had strong dislike for a Shark before, but Barbara had absolutely no excuse to tear into this girl for having a supportive family to keep her afloat while she starts a business. We should all strive to be like Melissa when we're young and like Melissa's father when we're old. Not every successful entrepreneur needs to have homelessness threatened to earn that success. For shame, Barbara. Kudos to Mark for his words and his offer, and I'm glad to see this company is doing incredibly well.

@Digby Dooright Honestly I think it's very reckless advice. There are scam gurus out there making you think if you go all in, like quitting your job and buying all their courses you'll be successful. Just because you have a lot at risk doesn't mean you're guaranteed success.

I don’t think she was saying the girl would fail. I think she’s saying that she doesn’t trust that she would put her all into it because it wasn’t a do or die situation. If she could just give up and move on too easily she didn’t want to invest her money into the venture.

No no. They just need to move out. Give up their bank accounts and start out on the street. Then they can get success. It's actually pretty easy when your life depends on it.

I can see where the others are coming from, however:
“We don’t know if people will want dates, but it’s delicious” we didn’t know if carrot cake would be a thing until someone made it a thing. Next.
“Why not just a plain flavor?” Mark, she just said why. People might be freaked out by “date” flavor, so she’s giving them something familiar. Learn to listen.

If Barbara put her own kids in this girl's shoes during that pitch, I don't think she would be happy to see them turned down because their parent/s are successful. I love this show and all the sharks. But that was more of a personal blow than a business intended decision, which was not fair for the girl at all. Glad her business is doing great now though!

You are dead on right, Katrice. I saw and felt that passion in this young lady. I confused as to why her site is selling so little, she's got to improve her algorithms for searches. Mark Cuban is correct about the plain date butter, make that lower price. I wish her much success in this endeavor and then on to planning her next venture. I'm a retired teacher volunteer/mentor/motivate/counsel/advise students. I speak to parents, and I tell them, if your child ages 5-15, is not saying he/she/they are going to change the world, not for money and fame, then you're raising a non-contributing, uninspired, unmotivated adult lacking humanistic altruism.

@@abeltesfaye_ lmao that’s pretty stupid. you can’t have emotions getting in the way if you want to be successful as a woman. this is a logical male dominated world and women must adapt to it, otherwise you’re written off as unstable and you’ll never succeed. yet because it is unnatural for a woman to act this way somehow you’re labeled as a “bitch.” who knows maybe she really is rude and bitter, but let’s not overlook the fact that men are more likely to give her a “break” because they find her attractive, and want to bed her, that’s why they’re not as “rude and bitter.” a woman has no incentive (providing she’s straight) to give another woman a break just for looking good. a man gets his ego stroked helping an attractive young woman.
