    Michigan south east lots of hummingbirds, heading south early… I am putting in at least one cup of nectar each day. I finches are eating a pound of thistle a day. I have pine Siskin and other migrating seed eating Songbirds too many to list , and we’re also getting a large population of falcons. I wish they would start eating. The sparrows are such a piss to me.

    I'm in KC and 1st year for birdfeeders. I'm hoping bluejays and red bellied woodpeckers are still around, but they've not shown up for a week or so. Love them & miss them! Thanks for information on migration.

      @@lindaboyer8062 I think the main culprit to bottle of those species is acorns. Once they start to ripen and drop, those two birds take advantage of that bounty

    Can you tell the difference between a raven and a crow from a distance?

    • @MarksBackyardBirds
      @MarksBackyardBirds  10 днів тому +1

      The best field make at a distance is the tail. Ravens have diamond shaped tails while crows have rounded tails. Also Ravens often soar and crows never really soar.

    Is it hard for a mosquito to bite a bird?

    • @MarksBackyardBirds
      @MarksBackyardBirds  6 днів тому

      They don't actually bite, their mouth part is more like a needel and they pierce the skin that they can get to.

    Can hawks catch their prey in flight?

      @MarksBackyardBirds  8 днів тому

      @@RichardFerstandig certain hawks special in doing that. Cooper’s, Sharp-shinned, and Northern Goshawks in particular.

    Are penguins afraid of humans?

      @MarksBackyardBirds  7 днів тому

      @@RichardFerstandig I don’t think they know to be afraid of humans as they don’t see them very often.

    Will woodpeckers peck trees that were burned in a fire?

    • @MarksBackyardBirds
      @MarksBackyardBirds  9 днів тому

      @@RichardFerstandig definitely. Some woodpeckers like the Black-backed Woodpeckers are famous for it.
