The birds are amazing creation. My Daughter keeps several feeding stations in the back yard and I get to sit in my outdoor rocking chair and watch their antics along with the chipmunks, squirrels, occasional blond fox who always stays back by the woods, woodchucks, the deer under the apple trees snacking on the fallen apples or reaching up in to grab one from time-to-time, woodchucks, and other critters that come in. Whenever, a raptor (mostly hawks and owls) shows up everyone of them stop and not move or flee for cover.
I love feeding my backyard blue jays. I’ve never been able to tell them apart because they don’t stick around long enough. They grab their shelled peanut and fly quickly back across the large pond to another tree. There’s one that always accompanies a wood pecker who knock, knock, knocks on my patio tin roof to demand her peanut. I love your videos so much. Thank you for taking the time to share them. ❣️😁
Lesley, I’m thrilled that you decided to make and post this video! Your intimate knowledge of your flock of blue jays has elucidated aspects of their behavior in never would have suspected! Females feeding males! Extramarital affairs and even possible copulation! I live in a wooded area of a city and blue jays don’t live in my yard, but they keep a sharp eye out for me putting out nuts for squirrels and birds. They call excitedly when i do, sometimes very close to me (though i don’t see them!) i watch them from my window - they eat and drink at birdbaths - but the only interaction I’ve seen between them was a blue jay aerial fight a couple of years ago, i think over the territory of my feeding areas. I’ve learned so much about them from your videos. Thank you!
They are my favorites. I started this hobby this year and I have seen so many different types of birds but I have come to love the Blue Jays the most. I love how they look at me and tilt their head kind of like a dog does when it's looking at you to say hey what's going on. They are very shy however they fly in quickly grab shelled peanuts from my feet are and fly away. I have seen videos you have posted where you actually get them to come to you and take a peanut mine if I move or make any noise they get spooked and fly away. They will observe me from a distance and I'm hoping that when the weather gets cold that they will come to know me and not be so afraid of me and understand that I am their friend and want to help take care of them. I love taking pictures and I'm a photography nut as a hobby and love taking beautiful pictures of all the birds but the Blue Jays just capture my heart. I even bought one of those deck propane heaters so that when it gets snowy and wintery I can still stay outside and enjoy them and continue taking pictures. Do you have any advice on how I can get them to trust me and come take peanuts. I have tried placing some of them on my deck railing a few feet away from me with some getting closer and closer to me but they won't touch them until I go inside and then they of course will come down and grab them all. How long did it take you before they trusted you?
@@JaneMurray-di3gq they have lots of voices, they hop around, they go thru 5 or 6 peanuts before they find one that's just right. All in all, an amusing and good looking bird.

These were the first birds I recall seeing when I was a child. I saw two in the yard and the color was beautiful. I was in amazement and have been ever since.
Thank you 🙏🏾 for sharing your videos of the Blue Jays. We have them in our backyard. I can always tell when one is around by their bird call, because they are quite loud and noisy. 😅 They are so astounding and very beautiful. ❤
I've always loved Bluejays, one of my favorite feeder visitors, their unique call and beautiful colors always a welcome sight. They are very polite around other birds, seemingly indifferent to others within inches of it, feeding.
Thrilled to see a video show up. We don’t normally see Blue Jays in Southwest Idaho. A couple years ago a pair of them turned up at my house and stayed all winter. I had a blast with them. If I wasn’t out there with peanuts in the shell by nine in the morning they would squawk repeatedly at me. I gave them peanuts numerous times throughout the day, every day. I don’t know where they were taking them but they would disappear with a nut and be right back for more. Haven’t seen a Bluejay since. Thanks Lesly 😘
Along with the black-capped chickadees, cardinals, mourning doves, woodpeckers, and a small grey bird that I do not know its' name, but who has a lovely song.........the blue jays are "regulars" in my yard. The cedar waxwings only show up between June and July to eat red berries from a tree I have, and then when they have eaten all the berries......they're gone.......but amazingly they come every year to that one tree with the berries. Most of the others are year-round visitors.
I'm glad to hear that blue jays are still thriving somewhere! My mother and I were lamenting that we never see blue jays anymore. Then while watching this video, I heard one! 🎉
Lesley, thank you! That was one of the best videos you have ever done. It was such a neat peek into the lives of these incredible birds. So many things that I never get the chance to observe in person or would understand if I did happen to see it.
Great to see a post from you, especially about the Blue Jays. We love ours here in SW Michigan, and my wife feeds them peanuts daily. I'm amazed at your knowledge and ability to identify so many individual birds. Thanks for sharing.
I have a blue Jay family that live in my yard. I have a flock of chickens that I adore. Well daddy blue Jay got trapped in the coop one day so I got a towel and got him out. The next day he followed me around the yard to thank me. They now alert to my chickens when danger is near. Birds are amazing ❤❤
I just learned something cool about blue jays by observing them at a park. Some of the blue jays will make a rattling sound, almost like a belted kingfisher. I looked it up online and only females will do it!
Thanks for the video! Yours was the first channel I subscribed to when I first started accessing UA-cam. I feed birds out back on my breaks at work -- raw peanuts, some in the shell and some broken up. My spot is in the domain of a coupled pair of Blue Jays, and I feel honored to have a relationship with them.
So lovely to meet your little group again! Since I mostly study and map families of hooded crows, Blue Jays really fascinate me! Your videos give me a great opportunity to compare my findings against another group of corvids in a different part of the world, which is priceless.
Absolutely love your videos. You have made the Bluejay my favorite bird that hangs around my yard here in northern Connecticut. Although around here, they are very secretive little devils.
Such beautiful, fascinating birds. Their wing flickering and vocalizations are adorable. I'm really glad to see you posting again though I hope you are able to balance things and take care of yourself first and foremost.
Growing up in southern NJ on a farm there was a plethora of birds, both day birds and night birds. Blue Jays can grow very large and like to tease cats. They steal cat food from the cat's dish and taunt the cat, knowing that the cat cannot possibly catch them.
It's always so special when you post, since you've been "semi-retired" from UA-cam.

It is SO GREAT to see you back, Lesley!! It may sound strange, but I have been praying for you. Your "going away" video touched me deeply!! YOU. ARE. THE. BEST!!! (And there is only ONE "BEST"!!)
That don't sound weird at all, and I truly appreciate that you would include me in your prayers. Thank you :) Although, I'm not back full with uploading videos there will be some more. Take care
@@LesleytheBirdNerd The quality of your videos and the wealth of information you present are simply amazing. You are extremely talented!! I look forward to seeing all of your future videos. Please take care of yourself and your family first. God bless you, my friend!!
Great to see you again !
Love watching Blue Jays 👍
Leslie, so wonderful to hear your voice again. Thanks for another fabulous video. 💕
aww thank you :)
God bless you fellow bird lover 🙏🏻
You have really helped me appreciate the birds in my yard. Thank you!
Brilliant! Thank you so much!💙💙💙💙💙💙
I've always loved Bluejays, one of my favorite feeder visitors, their unique call and beautiful colors always a welcome sight. They are very polite around other birds, seemingly indifferent to others within inches of it, feeding.
Absolutely stunning video. Thank you Lesley🌿💮🌲
Thank you very much ☺
Thank you for coming back Lesley. I always enjoy your content.
Hello Lesley. I was so pleased when I saw the notification of your post. 👍👍👍🙂🙂🙂
I always learn so much from your videos. Thanks. 😉😉
Great to hear from you Lesley!!!!!
Glad to see a comment from you ;)
Hey there. Good to see your posts. Hope everything is well. God bless.
Made my day to see you have posted again.❤
I finally have a pair of blue jays living in one of my trees! I’m so happy to see them and hear them calling. I love them! ❤ thank you for your video
Thank You for caring ❤
So glad to see your posts again. A pleasant interlude in this crazy world. Thank you, Lesley!
I LOVE YOU ARE BACK IF ONLY FOR A BIT. YOU ARE SO PURE IN HEART AND THOUGHT AND YOUR VIDEOS ARE SIMPLY THE BEST
Love those beautiful, sassy blue jays. My favorite birds!
Love to see you post a video, always makes my day. Cheers Lesley.!
I have a bluejay named Blue. 😂 ❤ he and his family have entertained me for years. 😊
Your work is sacred, Lesley. And of such a high quality. No sleaze. Thank you.
Thanks for posting Lesley. Sure miss you
Great to see a post from you, especially about the Blue Jays. We love ours here in SW Michigan, and my wife feeds them peanuts daily. I'm amazed at your knowledge and ability to identify so many individual birds. Thanks for sharing.
So wonderful you shared with us again!❤
Leslie you are the greatest.
Whatever you’re using to take pics & videos they are excellent! So clear & beautiful!
I Love how you Love! 💕
Lesley… Thank you for Sharing your Passion and Insights 💖💖💖
Missed your knowledge and your birds. I hope you had a restful break. Welcome back ❤
So lovely to meet your little group again! Since I mostly study and map families of hooded crows, Blue Jays really fascinate me! Your videos give me a great opportunity to compare my findings against another group of corvids in a different part of the world, which is priceless.
Such a treat to see a new video from you.
Absolutely love your videos. You have made the Bluejay my favorite bird that hangs around my yard here in northern Connecticut.
Although around here, they are very secretive little devils.
Love your Blue Jay videos, your familiarity and insight is such an inspiration to us bird lovers.
I really appreciate that, thank you!
They sure do, and it's infinitely entertaining!
